At the end of "big" Conrail on June 1, 1999, name:
1. The five divisions and the location of their headquarters.
2. The major hump yards (name or city will do) and the yard's heritage.

You have 4 of the 8 yards.
Somehow I thought you only wanted 5 yards to go with the 5 Division/HQs. Whoops.
Oak Island/LV would be another, and perhaps Buckeye in Columbus (PRR?).
East St. Louis/PRR?
Sorry. I didn't word it very well...
Of the 3 additional: One is totally correct, one is half right and one is wrong.

For the Divisions, I am looking for the Division name and location.

The problem did not originate at your end.
1. Conway (Pittsburgh) PRR2. Avon (Indianapolis) NYC3. Elkhart (Elkhart) NYC4. Selkirk (Albany) NYC5. Buckeye (Columbus) NYC6. Oak Island (Newark) LV
Altoona (PRR), and Buffalo (NYC)?

Of the 6, right yards, one has wrong heritage.
Of the two additional, one is right, one is wrong.
The missing one is a current NS hump.
Buckeye .....PC

#8 is Cleveland, former NYC
#6. I probably I'm wrong on this, but I think Buckeye was an Erie or a Pennsy yard.
J. Edgar wrote: Buckeye .....PC
Correct. Buckeye was built during PC.

#7 Correct. It's in Buffalo (close enough ala Conway and Avon). What's the yard's name. Name is still current.
#8 is wrong
Missing yard is currently NS hump.
Still need 5 divisions and their HQ...

I can think of two other possiblities, but I'm not sure if they're hump yards or flat yards. I'll give it until tomorrow for someone else. If not answered by then, I'll throw my guesses in.
from the above post: "I'll give it until tomorrow for someone else. If not answered by then, I'll throw my guesses in."
I just have a strange feeling that Hagerstown, Maryland, should be one of the yard sites.
I don't remember the division names, but HQ's were:
1. Philadelphia,PA.
2. Syracuse, NY.
3. Toledo, OH.
4. Chicago, IL.
5. Columbus, OH.

One is a division name, but need its location.

If not, again, I'll wait till morning

Nope.
wasnt the Chicago div in Dearborn Mi at 1 time???...or am i thinking NS
Well, I'm gonna throw out my guesses
I'm thinking there's a small hump yard for the Delmar Peninsula, and didn't NS get that little network? I wanna say it's at Wilmington, Delaware.. My only other thoughts would be Toledo or Syracuse, but I seem to remember those two are flat.
As far as divisions... Philadeplhia Div. in Pittsburg?
If not any of these, I'm out of this one.

At the end of Conrail, there a Philadelphia Division - HQ?
And there was a Dearborn Div in Dearborn MI (and it's still there under NS) That's one.
There is one more that was the 6th division under Conrail, but NS resurrected.
Another is a current NS division and the other two are on CSX - not sure if name or territory have changed..

A complex answer -- would you consider tossing out a hint or two? - a.s.

Thought I'd see if a weekday brought out any new players.
Hints will start this afternoon.
Hint time:
Yards:
7. Frontier (Buffalo) NYC
8.? Current NS hump located between Oak Island and Conway.
Divisions:
1. Dearborn (in Dearborn MI)
2. Philadelphia (in Mt. Laurel NJ)
3. ?? Is current NS division. CR built new building in suburbs away from the RR.
4. & 5. ?? Both named for state capital. Each located in area with major hump yard.
I looked up the last yard, and it is one I did not know about. Since I cheated I can't ask the next question.
As for the Divisions, I'm guessing Albany and Indianapolis, both are state capitols near major yards.

Correct! Albany Division was located at Selkirk Yard and the Indy Div was location in Indy.
...now all we need is that last hump yard...
Hint: Billy Joel

New York? As in "New York State of Mind," one of B. Joel's more popular songs???
