That would be either an ex Conrail SW1500 or an ex Southern SW1500, I'm sure thats not what you saw though.

Here's my report from Macungie, Pa:

5:03 261 2 C40-9W's in old logo
5:26 35A C40-9W's #9505, 9499, and GP38-2 High Hood 5077
6:30 15T SSW (Cotton Belt)/UP GP60 #1962, CEFX SD40M-2 #3179, SP/UP SD40M-2 #2691
7:08 unknown C40-9W #9208 and SD60M #6772 (still in CR blue)

The SSW and SP were those ugly UP "bandits" but it was nice anyway.

Pics later!

Yesterday saw a MOW train lead by a gp40-2 and a gp30 converted to a road slug both in csx yn2. Behind it were about 20 89; flat cars filled with misc. MOW equipment towards the back there were a couple 40' boxcars and mill gondolas.
Last night I saw a autotrain pulled by a single gp40 in csx yn1. And tonight I saw my first coal train on the new castle sub that was pulled by two macs both in Csx YN3, not sure what which kind of macs since it was booking along at a fast speed. It was dark I couldn't even catch the numbers.

While taking the Springhill Exit today off of I-40 (this exit goes by the hump yard) I saw 3 switchers and a road engine. The "road engine" was hooked to a yard engine so it probally is one of the "switch" engines for the hump yard. It was numbered 357, there is probally a UPY near the numbers but I was driving and didn't have time to stair at it.

A TFM unit (SD40-2 I think; but I was too busy getting the shot to be sure) southbound in Springfield, OR.

UP had an open house here about 2 months ago. They gave us a bus ride through the yard. One thing I noticed then was the number of units just as Cris described. They looked pretty good but UP must have wanted newer units. So UP gets newer units and a leasing firm gets a pretty good deal on a pretty good unit. [:p]

Tonight on the way home from work I saw UP 8156. It was the pusher on a loaded coal train. The reason I see so many trains at night is because. [;)]

Because they stop before going through the wye and when they do the rear end is setting pretty much under the I-40 overpass in the Levy area of North Little Rock. When I take the Levy (pronounced Leeee v ) exit off the interstate I can see it. [;)] This is where the Camp Robinson (National Guard) turnout is also. But the railline to Camp Robinson hasn't seen a train in many years. However, once I did see a CNW unit setting there. I wish I would have taken a pic of it, but I didn't. [:(] [:(!] UP does use that line at times to park ROW eqiupment such as speeders and such.

After getting off the interstate I was on 6th Street in Little Rock. (There was a story in Trains several years ago about the Rock Island and 6th Street and about one of the railroaders being killed near the 6th Street area.) As I passed under one of the old Rock Island rail overpasses there were 2 Wisconsin Central boxcars setting there (still there tonight on the way home too) but I could only get one number and it was 26553.

And also on the way home I saw a UP engine, number 6286 being the pusher on a loaded coal train.

And I wasn't even railfanning, just going to and from work. [;)]

That one is VERY interesting,I don't suppose you have any pictures laying around? And how many people out there (especially us of the over 50 bunch),know what the letters PCC stand for?

http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=62462

PCC stands for Presidents Confefence Committee. The presidents of many trolley companies got together and wrote up specs of what they wanted to see in a new streetcar. The result was the PCC car. This car revolutionized the industry ,extending the life of many systems, and possibly saving the industry.

Yesturday saw CP 2816. Chased it from Des Plaines all the way to Portage. Caught it 4 times. First in Des Plaines, then Strutevant, then Brookfield, and finally at Portage. Since it stopped at Portage i was able to get up close and personal with it. Be back up in Wisconsin on Sunday for MILW 261.

The Carlisle Rubber plant is directly behind my house (the rail line runs between the plant and my house) and every weekday about noon, a switcher comes back and switches in new covered hoppers for the plant. They're usually back there about an hour and I've stopped going back to watch as it's the same every day. Today though I went back just to note the loco for this thread. Today it was NS GP38 (high-nose) # 2864. Sometimes (usually) there are two locos that do the switching, NS must be low on power. On another note, another thread on this forum asked about the PRR markings on the NS engines (I too had wondered about this), today on the GP 38, it had SOU (southern I assume?). First time I had seen that one.

The line behind my house used to serve a number of industries and warehouse but it has become in disrepair as they've all converted to trucks. It's kinda scary seeing this several hundred ton engine and cars cross this twisted and buckling tracks!

While on the way home from work this morning, just after midnight, I saw two UP engines setting under the I-40 Interestate bridge. This is the location where I usually see the pusher engines stopped but tonight the head end was stopped there. This is very odd. NEVER have I seen the head end of the train stop there. AND there was a UP hirail pickup shinning the headlight on one of the engines. You could see people walking back and forward.

The UP engines were:

I was cleaning out the truck today getting ready to go get some gas [:(] [:(!] and heard a train honking for a crossing. So I decided to hurry up and go see it, plus I had intended to take the dog as Duchess loves to go for a ride and is stuck in the house most of the time. I grabbed her leash and she got so excited about going for a ride I couldn't catch her. I finally was able to leash her, grabbed the notebook and pen and off we go. Well it was already past several of my "spots" and gaining speed as it was leaving town. The speed limit was 40 along a stretch of city hiway which is more country than city. Many trees between the right of way and the road kept blocking my view plus it also had a good head start on me. I finally got catch up to the power but had a hard time seeing the numbers for he trees. When I finally got to see enough of them to get the numbers this is what I found. UP 6306, still in SP paint but with a UP number patch. UP 4697 was the second unit. ONe thing I noticed was the number of cars with graffiti on them--there were a lot. I also saw a boxcar with SLGG 10217 on it and a CN boxcar number 414665 (I think). There were a variety of A & M cars (one numbered 960) , CNW, SP, ARM (or whatever the UP Fruit Express cars are lettered) and lots of other stuff too.
