What exactly is the Unread Threads Page, and how does one access it?

Just above the list of topics are 4 "tabs".  "Most Recent", "Not Answered", "Unread Topics", and "My Topics".  Click on the 3rd one to see all the topics that YOU have not viewed.  Once you have read all the ones you want, click on the button above the tabs that reads, "Mark All as Read" and the list will show none, until someone starts a new topic or adds to a topic.  When you refresh the page those that you have not seen yet, will be listed.

Or just click on the 'LAST' button in the General Discussion forum and then work your way to current.

HA HA!  That is why "zombie" threads show up.  People start at the oldest posting, see something of interest to them and decide to make a comment without realizing the age of the thread.

Besides, I don't have time for 1333 pages to show up one at a time.

Accessing the normal way you still have 1333 pages of forum - the forum only presents one page at a time.

If someone thinks a thread is interesting 'to them' and want to comment, why should the date of the thread be any impediment?

If the thread title has any clear meaning, you can just google by approximate memory of the title or subject. All the threads that I remember are there.  They are probably still getting views.

It is curious how Anonymous has posted in so many threads before the date 'he' is shown as having joined the forum.

I'd like to say earlier than that, but the software was updated several times (and I'm not sure all the earlier posts were archived).

CMStPnP probably knows the methods error-handlers use when a database key is deleted but a program accesses something containing a reference to it.  I suspect the 'anonymous' is a catchall record (with assigned date or other fields to keep from breaking any routine).  There are implications for how it's implemented in that the post count for 'everybody who quits' is assimilated into one huge number, probably over time as the system runs and updates metadata.

Note that banned members are currently handled differently.  Their posts still appear under their own name (and avatar), as do the associated other data such as post count.  They just can't log in.

I believe there have always been a few regular members who deem themselves censors of sorts. Deciding which topics are "fit" for discussion, and which are not.  When one of the dormant threads that they have historic resentment for gets bumped, they complain about the  outdatedness  rather than risk breathing life back into the actual content they have objection with.

400 years ago, book burning got the job done.  Here in the digital age things are a little more complicated. Smile

...and how much discussion of the topic is allowed.
