Here are some pics from my 'downunder' layout set in 1965 in NSW Australia.

A bit different from waht you are used to in the USA but I hope you enjoy them.

Most have had a background real pic added.

I could not get the pics to come up in the post so I here is the web address, I hope.

Hi folks...wow, what a great collection of photos on this thread...I was alerted to it, by seeing the latest Model Railroader emailed newsletter, thankfully.

I was hoping that from among the little buttons up top of this "reply" box, there'd be one that would allow you to search your "my pictures" area, and select one to paste onto this message.  Obviously, it isn't THAT easy to do, darn it.  I'll see if I can teach myself in a few minutes, how to do what the rest of you are doing, here....got a nice shot of a Suydam Sunkist Freight Depot I made awhile back, and superdetailed, that I'd love to "chare whichoo gice."

{back in awhile, if I'm successful.....otherwise, use your imaginations.}

Oh, man...I googled "how to add photos to a message board posting," and read something that someone must think they explained well...but it made no sense to me.  I have a feeling that its almost impossible to give someone else instructions, when YOU know the answer already.  I arrange casualty and property insurance for a living, and the big danger is when you forget how to speak ENGLISH to clients...brokers begin to use this "Insurance-ese" language that only THEY understand. It is even WORSE when it comes to computer stuff.  If I ever retire, I'm going to take a crack at seeing if I can interpret "Computer Speak" into everyday speech; and publish "how to" information that neophytes will be able to FOLLOW.

Hi all -

  As PC can attest to, I am slowly building a layout (3+ yrs running now) and this is the best one so far. Hope everyone enjoys it!

This is a photo of the Railroad Engineering Firm (the orange truck @ the top) and Subcontractors I have contracted with to make my layout.

Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

Philip and all

 With the kind help of John Wood of Nova Scotia I have joined photbucket.com and will now have another go at posting some pics.

As I said in my first post my layout is set in 1965 in New South Wales, Australia and represents the NSW Government Railways - a bit different from what you would see in the USA. The NSWGR used locomotives from both the UK and the USA.

Most pics have added real backgrounds and some have the front edge of the layout digitally removed.

I have added two pics but in preview they show large, no thumbnail - what am I doing wrong?

Unca roggie

Here's the dumbed down version:

We don't post pics on the forum with attachments.  Instead we upload our pics to a website like www.photobucket.com Go there and open a free account.  Upload your pics (just follow their prompts)...each pic will be assigned 3 different urls.  The one called IMG is the one you need to use to post pics on this forum.  When you compose your message in the forum message box, simply copy and paste the entire photobucket IMG url into the message.  As if by magic, the forum will go to photobucket and retrieve your pic from the IMG site you have specified, and stick it into your message. I usually reduce my pics to 400 x 600 format before I upload.  Hope that helps.  Cheers.

Okay, lets see if I can follow simple instructions!  If it appears below, then it was decently easy to do this.  Some backstory: after making this Suydam kit (first had to blow the cobwebs off it, I suspect it was diecut around 1958) I put it on a 12 inch square piece of plywood, and used old fashioned plaster over screen...happy accident came when trying to carve the curb on the street: went too low, and hit the screen, but it looks exactly like a sewer grate!  I took this photograph into an insurance company, to ask what RATE the underwriter thought would be proper to use, for such a structure.  He examined it a long time, finally asking me if it was stucco over frame.  "Oh, no, its just CARDBOARD."  He nearly fell out of his chair.  I went to the car and brought in the actual building, which REALLY freaked him out.  I like doing impish things like that, in my business (it can use all the humor it can GET.)

(hmmmmnnn...when I hit EDIT, I see that a long "url" thing is showing, just above this, but it did not magically become the PHOTO...does it take awhile???)

{edited again: yes, I see it DOES take a few minutes.}

This thing has taken on a life of it's own!  It's turning into an inspiration, thanks to all of these awesome modelers, like I've never dreamed of.  I just expected a good pic or two.  This thing is like a who's who of modeling!

Oh, pardon me!  I've got to go now.  The soldering gun is warmed up!

Looking at the pix with the little kid:  It wouldn't surprise me in the least, to hear that he's in the process of uploading photos to Photobucket, in the shot.  Somehow, the kids coming along today, come out of the womb knowing how to wrangle a computer.  Must be in the DNA now, or something.

unca: You are way ahead of me! Please disregard the e-mial I sent before scrolling down the page.

Ray: My dumb browser is still reluctant to open pics in this thread, so your reportedly awesome modelling is still an occult art to me!

The upper tunnel on the Maritime Trunk curves to the left after the tunnel mouth.  I thought it would be interesting to make it appear to go straight on, so I built a light box with a tunnel exit scene.  Here's the result.

Don't get too close though, (hard to do physically in this room, but possible with a zoom lens). The effect is lost as one can see the tracks go left!

reklien:

Now for some backdrop painting,Right?
...never one to do things right first time as far as mrr is concerned, so the backdrop will be a retro-fit.  I didn't want to paint directly on the sheetrock, so I'm favouring a plastic flashing material Philip put me on to. (No seams, if I can manage it.)  Trouble is the stuff isn't available in my part of Canada, and the shipping from the US for a roll of the material is about as much as the material itself.Banged Head [banghead]  It's 30 inches deep, so I figure I can cut it to fit all the way around the room, even allowing for the fact my layout climbs for much of that.  I've built the scenery to take this kind of plastic sheet backdrop.

I did paint directly on the sheetrock in the last house we had, but the train room had been customized for that with a curved corner where the helix went. Not able to do that here.
