Evening Gang: Well I had to restart 3 times before PeoplePC finally got me connected. I've got to get some other hook up. I'm going to call Dish and see what they have to offer and for how much.

I didn't get to do any MRRing today unless you count mowing the grass so I could find the 7.5 gauge track. The grass was so long and tough that it almost stalled the diesel lawn tractor. That's tough.

I don't know for sure what tomorrow is going to bring. I still have some mowing in the back to do. Oh yea. The wheels that I bought arrived today. They are real good. I'm still have to get the spoked wheels from one of my friends. He lives down by San Antonio way so I won't get them untill the meet in June. That's OK. The shipping was cheep. Like 0.

Trent: I've got you in my thoughts and prayers. We are all here for you if you want to talk.

Well I've got to get to bed.

Ed: I guess we'll have to start calling you Yahoodie. The little man who isn't there. If you remember Jerry Colongna you will know of who I talk.

Jerry: I'm sorry but I only talk HO. I never learned N. By the by there were some great looking and running N layouts there. I was also really impressed by the Z layouts. That small stuff ran great. As smoothly as HO. If I went to Z scale I could do the entire DM&IR in the basement.

JimCG: I did make a point of discussing price with him. I think that they need to be competitive with Walthers. Of course there is always the discount dealers. I'm going to drop him a line and see if I can mention the price thing again.

Good Night All

Good evening everyone, just got back from Monday night men's candlepin bowling league, man what  a headcold I seem to have caught....I think it was all the outside work in the cold the last several days.....part of life I guess.

PC: I had not even read the replies to my post yet about the news that I heard from a LHS owner....how in the world did anyone take offense to news ? Ohh well....

CAPE JIM: Mom stopped by withe the little guy for a short visit this afternoon, so I got my batteries charged again. LOL

DUKE: Keep those memories of dad, they will get you through those sad times around the holidays with family.

Well, I guess I should check out the main forum to see why people have their butts in an uproar over nothing.

Bon Soir

My project is not dry yet so here I am again.

Thanks Jim,  The box canyon is part of a ranch.  There will be a stock yard with a loading shute for the cattle.  We have not named the ranch, but I leaning to Box Canyon_________.

Dick, Do you bowl too?  Larry and I started in June.  Neither of us had bowled since junior high.  And who knows how long that is.  I stopped by for 3 games while I was in town to do taxes this morning.  I am a rookie, but I am having fun.Laugh [(-D]

Paul,  How is retirement?  Are you busier than when you were working?

SUE, your still up? Ohhh that's right , it is only 9:30 on the west coast, silly me. I have been bowling candlepin for years, but took a hiatus from 1972 until 2001 while coahing little leagus and kids basketball when my boys were young. Now that I am retired, four of us guys joined a league in the next town a few years ago, and we have a lot of cut-up fun....strictly a fun league. I have bowled 10 pin also, but I prefer the challenge of candlepin.

Good Morning All,

37F already and high to be 41 so we're nearly there at 7:30. Got about another inch of snow last night but the soft type, not granulated ice.

Duke - sorry about your Dads' passing. After 15 years I still think of mine every day, after all he got me here and it was his enthusiasm and encouragement that got me started with cars.

Trent - yes you do have to hang in there, but trusting God and consulting a doctor are both good bits of advice. I have a couple of friends who suffer as you do and it isn't an easy path. Please feel free to drop in and talk any time.

Sue - Good progress on the rocks. I can relate to having to finish one part before the next but do you remember when it was all undone and just a bit overwhelming? And of course when you look at the older bits you'll see things you could improve as you and Larry have gained skill and knowledge as you've progressed.

Spent last night working on the water tower for the museum display. Not much else to report so off to w..k.   CUL, J.R.

Good morning All

Duke: Sorry to hear  of your loss and please accept my heart felt sympathies.

Well it's been awhile, a Loooooong while but better late than never. Yes coffee would be nice!

Well Phase a is just about finished as I put the finishing touches on the rooms.

Would you believe !

9 windows, 3 in a bay in the back and a front window which measures 8' accross and 7 high, three doorways and 3 closests with about 200' of base board all in Verola Pine and all with a minimum of 2 coats of varnish! I hate Painting!!!

Learned how to lay Hardwood flooring too. Curtain rods are another issue as I ripped a hole in the wall yesterday while adjusting the pull cord... Dad's nurse thought I had hurt myself as the  room filled full of blue air.

Anyway we are hoping heck or high water to have Dad in his new digs come Thursday.

Phase b (sun room) and c (deck) is to start soon, I hope.

As for the MR'ng well it's a work stoppage at present but I'm hoping it will pick up again when I go back to sea, which will be next month. I hope...

Anyway that's my life in a nut shell, now to patch a couple of holes

Trent,

Depression is a very real thing and it affects you in every area of your life.  It can be worse when it's coupled with failing health.  Trust me, I know about it.  My wife and both my children were diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy a few years ago.  The conditions of this disease are very grave indeed.  As that sunk in, so did depression for my wife and I.  She basically shut down for a long time.  She felt helpless and to blame for the condition of our kids (it's hereditary) and the burden this would be on our marriage and me.  Now I don't know if you believe in God or not, but our faith in Him is what got us through.  You see, we realized that God is in control, and there is a meaning to life, and there is a purpose to all of what we were going through.  We chose to look for His purpose and not to waste our suffering.  This made all the difference in the world on how we looked at things.  Now this isn't the place for much more talk of this, and indeed I may have already crossed a line, and if I've offended anyone then I appologize, but if you want to talk more, feel free to contact me by clicking on my profile and sending me a message.  We can talk about anything you want, or you can just vent, whatever, OK?  I do understand where you're coming from though.  I've been there.

I should add that this invitation is open to anyone, anytime.  Sometimes it just helps to get things off your chest.  Sometimes you really don't need, or even want, a solution, you just want to let it all out for a bit.  Thats OK, I understand that.  If you feel you'd like to do that, you can be assured that I'll keep my mouth shut and so you can talk honestly and openly and I won't judge you.  I'm just there for you......all of you.

Mornin' all!

Everyone enjoy the surf and turf last night?  Good!

For breakfsat this morning we have some of Bill's grab it and go goodies (looks great as usual Bill), or if you've got a couple of minutes, I'd suggest either the hungry man's breakfast.......

or, like Jeff said, maybe the strawberry pancakes.......

Hard to go wrong either way!

Well, I've got to cut out of work later this morning to take the wife to the doctors.  Hate going there.  They always poke and prod on her like a lab rat or something.  Her condition is so rare that that use her as a teaching tool a lot of times.  It's good that the up and coming doctors get to see conditions like hers, and shes very gracious in letting them learn on her, but it really takes it out of her sometimes, ya know?  She's a trooper though.

Philip,  Thanks for the treat.  I am sure that it will be succulent.  I have not heard about your layout progress.  I know that you have been out of town.

You're welcome!  As far as the layout goes, I got held up by a lack of turnouts.  I've ordered all I need, I'm just waiting for them to get here.  They are mostly for my on-stage interchange area, but also a couple for the staging yard.  Without those, I can't do a lot.  I did get my backdrop material in though.  I'll be painting the backside of that, then hanging it this weekend if the weather holds out.  See, I've got to paint it outside.  It's two thirty foot rolls of 24 inch tall plastic.  It'll offer a seamless, curvable backdrop on each level.  But I need the back painted black so no light will show through, so thats the project this weekend.

Good Morning, Zoe. I'd like a stack of those strawberry-topped pancakes like Jeff's having, but maybe only 1/2 or 2/3rds as tall. If I ate that many, I'd be dozing off at w**k today. Wink [;)]

And since Oops [oops] it looks like I'm buying breakfast today, I also brought in some cinnamon rolls to go with the donuts Bill brought. Also, Zoe's starting up a batch of waffles for those who'd like those.

Zoe, track my damages and I'll be back in later to settle up.

Going to be warmer here today - it's 54 already, and supposed to only go up to 61 (F) today, with some rain forecasted-guessed. Humidity is at 72 percent, with a Northeast wind at about 6 mph. Not raining just yet, though.

Hope today doesn't go as long as yesterday at (the W place, Paul...Wink [;)]) - it was so busy with people at walk-in that it was after 3 p.m. before I got to one of our local police stations to assess a person there. Finally finished that one and headed for home around 6 p.m. (and had my lunch & dinner then). But I finished up the rest of my Stroganoff I'd fixed over the weekend, so not a lot of preparation time for that. Yeah!! [yeah]

Tonight after work, some of us from our church's singles small group are getting together (to eat or just for fellowship and kicking back) at a local Panera's Bread restaurant. Something to look forward to. Smile [:)]

In 'train news', I started looking in my Walthers catalog for possible autos, trucks and delivery vans for my layout. Seems like (other than Athearn) there aren't nearly as many companies making Fords or Chryslers as there are making good Chevy vehicles. Which I don't mind (I think I've mostly driven Chevy products since I got my license), but I figure I should have some variety in the cars. I do think when I build the Wallenschlager Motors kit that I have, I'll make it a Chevy dealership (that, or a used car dealer). (Not trying to start any flame wars here!) Shock [:O]Wink [;)]  (Definitely don't want to start a topic asking about car choices out in the general forums!)

'bout time for me to get going - hope our Northeasterners get dug out from under that snow you got!

Blessings and peace in your week,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good morning everyone, ahh, who is that stranger with the beard in the corner...FERGIE!!!!!! How the h.. are you buddy, haven't seen you since that ice berg drifted into Boston Harbor!!LOL

PHIL: I finally got to read the comments in the main thread at midnight , I had to straighten out some of the kids who got way off target and started to turn their soldering irons on each other. It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is for some of the members to get so distracted and de-focused on "any" subject dealing with the hobby. One minute comments are all germaine to the topic, the next minute we have world politics, religion, ones MIL, the snowplow driver, the next door neighbor, all entered into the thread....LOL

Today I need to work on a kit.......no...not a MRR kit, but a saw mill , scratch built, for my 5th grade grandson who is helping me after school. It is a class project for Social Studies. BTW guys and gals......I never had a class called "Social Studies"........is this a hybrid of what us old timers called ( had in school in the 40's and 50's ) Geography and History seperately??

Grayfox, it's funny how we all let our bias' and beliefs color everything.  Our worldview shapes everything we think about.  Thing is, sometimes we have to temper that somewhat in order to stay on a single topic.  That can be hard sometimes, because that worldview interweaves itself into everything we do and think.

Morning all.

Dick, looks like your thread on the main forum was deleted. I went to see what the fuss was about and couldn't find it as far back as page 4 on 3/18/07.

Trent, in addition to the other good advice you received, remember you do not have to go through it alone.  There are people available to help you and depression can often be treated.  If you can't afford to pay, since mental health issues are often not covered by insurance, free clinics are availble most places.

Oops, break was over ten minutes ago, gotta run.

Good afternoon everyone, temp has risen to 36F on this clear day, so melting is in full swing.

ATTABOY:  Yes, my post of yesterday got pulled by the monitors. My thread originally stated that the new owner of LGB did not obtain the finances that he needed, so he has the company up for sale. That was statement one. Anyone see anything political about that? No, I don't either.  The second statement was something to the effect that we "could" see additional buy-outs or mergers.

Well apparently, that led some people to get very political in their replies, while others actually brought religion into the act....don't ask me how, I don't get it either. I think some people really need to get out in the real world more often and get a life!! I received an email from Trains folks informing me that they had to pull the topic because it had gotten too political. I don't blame them at all for pulling the topic, that is the only way to stop some people from going "off the wall".

PC: I agree with you Philip, but I do think it is a darn shame that we have so many people who just can't stay focused.

Sue: Yes.

Evening , I'll have a barley pop dear,

Had an ok day here, sun most the day and temps got up close to 60. Only had J Bird for about an hour, then I spent most the day outside working. Rain coming in tonight and hanging round for the next 4 to 5 days, but at least the temps are suppose to stay up in the 50's or so

TRENT,  hang in there buddy, know it's rough. There's always somebody round to listen and maybe help, even here.

DUKE, we're keeping ya'll in our thoughts.

JIM CG,  I might see anything coming through here. Today a coal train came through, had some old Rio GRANDE,  Santa Fe, SP, BN and L&N, along with the CR. Of course, here I set at home with no wheels, so no pics.

FERGIE, good to hear from you again, and glad the remodel project is slowly coming to an end. Guess you'll be looking forward to some sea duty for the quiet.

These are some pics I got up at the Mattoon yard last week, first is a CN awaiting orders for the Decatur track.

next is a of some flat cars loaded for bridge repair [I think]

Next is a N. bound Amtrak coming through the yard and then looking towards the station

Think I'll go play awhile, catch ya'll laters

Good evening people: Spring is officially here, so we had snow today to welcome it....Sad [:(]

PC:

If I remember right, it's under the header.  I think I took out the mechanical pump because it was vapor locking because of the heat from the header, and I threw in a blockoff plate and mounted an electric pump to the firewall.  If you wanted to keep the fuel pump, you'd probably want to fashion a heat block from some sheet metal or something to keep the pump cooler.
…the reason I asked was that we had a Fiat in the 70s (can’t remember the model, but it was a  sporty looking job) rear engined, with the fuel pump mounted underneath, outside and to the front of the gas tank,  Just lovely in the snow!  It caught all the slush and crud, and eventually the coil burnt out.  I fixed it, but it was a really poor design feature.

It's two thirty foot rolls of 24 inch tall plastic.  It'll offer a seamless, curvable backdrop on each level.
…sounds just what I’m after (but I don’t need quite that much!)  Where do you get that?

Sue:  Those rock castings look elegant, can’t wait to see them stained up!  Judging by the other rocks you’ve shown us, they will be spectacular!Thumbs Up [tup]

Jeff:

There was also an unpatched rib side Wisconsin Central boxcar, about 50 - 60' in length.
…that WC gear gets all over.  There’s quite often a gon or two at the scrap yard in Truro, Nova Scotia. (but it’s CN trackage, so not a huge surprise really.)

Trent and Duke:  As you know, our thoughts and prayers are with you.Angel [angel]

Fergie:  Thanks for dropping by, as you know folks were wondering how you were doing.  That sure is an extensive reno you’ve got going there!Wow!! [wow]

Dick:

.I never had a class called "Social Studies"........is this a hybrid of what us old timers called ( had in school in the 40's and 50's ) Geography and History seperately??
…as far as I’ve been able to piece it together from the very scant data that seeps out of our grandkids…yes, that would be about it.

Been busy with staining rocks, and have most of those around the viaduct area done. (most, because I forgot the few castings that are on the module where the main part of the viaduct sits .Sigh [sigh]

Now I’ve begun filling in the ground colour (it’s a greenish brown that looks quite like vegetation, especially when it’s on the rough textured sawdust mix.  Getting the dilution right, so it goes on easily, but not so thin that it runs over the rocks by mistake is the tricky bit.  The wicking up to the rocks is working out quite well, but I have to use a smaller brush for that, to get the accuracy needed.

Back to work.. Goodnight all, and God Bless.  Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

The Fiat 850 Sport Spyder was a rear engined car.  Here's one for sale on Ebay right now (lovely shade of electric lime green if you ask me): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-FIAT-850-SPORT-SPIDER-2ND-OWNER-STOCK-SEATTLE-NR_W0QQitemZ190093200596QQcategoryZ6218QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I've got the link to the website on my work computer.  I'll post it in the morning, OK?  Oh, and I goofed....it's only 20 inches tall.  It ought to work great though, and it's pretty cheap!  Alot cheaper then most backdrop material.

I also brought in some cinnamon rolls

Thanks, Jim, for the treat.  Your contribution to the diet looks best today.

Dick,  I am an early to bed, early to rise kinda person.  If I am up past  9:00, I have no idea what time it is.  We went on daylight savings time early this year.  Did everyone else do that?

JR, On our first layout, I did plaster cloth.  The geodesic foam go so much faster and is easy to change as it sets up.  You have about 30 minutes working time.

Philip,  I know the turnout problem.  We tried to use #8s almost everywhere.  We used Walthers until everyone was out of stock.  When Peco came out with #8s we snapped them up because we could get live frogs.  Larry wired all the turnouts that weren't live.  Now that took some time.  He has the patience of Jobe.

Cox,  Yes, we are a team.  My climbing is the main thing that is not completely joint.  He goes down to the rock gym with me sometimes, but it not as important in his mind as mine.

Inch,  Larry calls them Oat Sodas.  Great photos.  Thanks for sharing.

der, Thanks. I painted the Gesso(primer) this morning, and if I get a spurt of energy, I will do the Tempera(black wash) tonight.

Well, it is 8:00, so I probably should have some dinner.  The cinnamon rolls are not staying with me.

Just returned from our trip.  It was not a good trip.

Back to the model railroad again. Lots to do there. Good to have a hobby for sanity!

Happy Model railroading, everybody!

Good Morning All,

That eclair Bill left looks too good to pass up - that and a coffee please Zoe.

Welcome back Fergie and Garry. Glad to hear the addition is coming along Fergie and at least you're back amoung friends Garry.

Hoople - you should enjoy the new Loco when it arrives, I like the way my Spectrum stuff runs.

Der - for nearly invisible scale a 0000 brush should be just about coarse enough to do wide swaths, no?

Another busy day so I need to get to it. CUL, J.R.
