PC, nice pics for the cold. Just remember spring is just around the corner, think it'll be bout May or June this year.
JERRY, I was doing some playing on here and found a LHS listed for Robinson. Don't know anything about it, WOLFE Satellite, 544-7476. I think your son lives down that way, he might check it out n let us know how it is.
Things going bout the same round here this week, just kids an chores. Did get some play time and even ran a couple trains when the kids were here [thats a have to now].
Train show's on for tomorrow in Mattoon, going to spend the rest of my burthin day money maybe, if they have any good deals. Daytona 500 later in the afternoon,

It's going to be a busy day today. I have to prepare for the Mardi-Gras parade, which I'm in, then come back home and prepare for the Mardi-Gras ball tonight. That should have me tied up most of the day.

Afternoon folks.
Zoe, I'll have one of those ginger ales please. Make it a tall one, light on the ice. The CFO is doing the taxes (believe it or not she loves it! - of course she's an accountant) so I'm hiding in the office. It's good to see some familiar faces.
Here's a mockup of the general idea of my new layout (you can't get much more general than that). No detail and grossly out of scale but you'll get the idea, especially PC and others familar with the Lewistown area. Boy, I can't wait for the refund. Flex track, turnouts and more. she promised me a trip to Trainmasters in Atlanta. Can't wait.
Later
KJ
Good afternoon, Janie - I'd like a big bowl of the chili with some grated cheese and those oyster crackers, please! Oh yeah, bring me the Beano and a glass of milk, too.
Ken, you're doing it up bigtime - topographic maps and the whole nine yards! Looks good - from your mockup, I'd say you're going a point to point (switching and ops fan), right? Lucky guy, having an accountant in-house to do your taxes (and she'll let you go to Trainmaster with the refund check)! Me, I just sent my return off with TurboTax last Thursday or yesterday, so it'll be a little bit before my refund comes in (doing the direct deposit thing). But my return is simpler (though using TTax did get me thinking on some receipts that I want to be keeping for this year, based on questions it asked and for which I hadn't (systematically, anyway) kept receipts. Like medicines, doctors' visits, gas mileage for work (vs. the rate at which they reimburse me), etc. But it still found me a reasonable total refund. Hey, I'm easy to please sometimes.
Sitting here, looking out the window at our light flurries. We possibly got an 'Inch' or two last night, but it's just been hovering around/above/slightly below freezing today (back down to 29 F now), so most of what came down during the day hasn't been sticking. I think they're still predicting flurries tonight, but warming up to 40 (F) or so tomorrow. I expect that most of whatever snow we get will be gone by the start of the w..kweek.
Hoople, I'm sure you are one happy MRR'er now - don't forget to read the manual and directions, though. Enjoy - you've been waiting what probably seemed like an eternity to you.
Inch and Jerry - hope that newly located LHS turns out to be a good one. You never can have too many LHS's around to check out... Hope the Mattoon show goes well and they have a lot of bargains for ya to snap up!
Jeff, are you having a heat wave down there in Louisiana? Oh, sorry - I forgot that the 50's for you all there is fairly cold...
PC, how'd your class go today? Fill us in when you get back.
Anyone heard from Fergie recently? How about it - DerJohn? Luc? Dick? You guys talked with Fergie? Wondering how the remodeling is coming along and how his father's been doing.
Haven't heard lately from Chuck and Kathy - Sue or anyone talked with them?
Well, I've done my share of being nosy this afternoon - guess I need to head back home and see if I can finish up nailing down my track. I got a few more feet fastened down in the last couple of nights. Prayers for healing and rest for everyone in need of 'em (that would likely be most of us, between the two).
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

Hi Gang: I'm just taking a break from working on the portable track sections for the 7 1/2in gauge.
JimCG: That 1/2x1inch stuff is flat steel. I use it for rail for the portable track sections. The thing that I do is cut 2 pieces the same and if it's alittle short that's ok. We did get a few fluries earlier this week but they didn't stay. Today is windy but in the upper 50s. It's supposed to get better and maby in the middle 60s by Wednesday. They predict some rain on Tuesday so I may get hold of my buddy in Ft Worth and do some LHS hopping.
Daisy the Dog wants to go out so I'll see you all later.
Edit below
Hokie Smokes Bullwinkle. It's been almost 4hrs since I made this post and nobody else has been in? The girls are getting edgy guys. I had to stop Cloe from turning off the lights and going home. What gives?
Well I got the rest of the rail cut and did some more ties so I'll make up 12 sections of track instead of 10. I found some steel that I had forgotton that I had for the 2 extra. Tomorrow I have to get out and do some work on the place. Maybe.
Oh Yea, I did this as an edit because it's so close to the bottom of the page. Just being careful.
Well I guess I will head for bed.
Good Night All
Wow, slow night and down to page two well now..................... bump.
Spent the day making a tool box cart for the new trailer out of 2" angle. Came out ok. Mechanical department meeting for the museum after that, then dinner for my oldest son and my wife B-days. Still have managed to make up a couple more wall castings for the museum HO display so some work done.
Welcome back KJ. 13 x 23 in N should be enough for a real empire good going.
and see Hoople - patience is a virtue. Night All, tomorrow should be busy. J.R.
Hey Paul, I was in the corner dozing - guess I've been hanging around Duke too long. Chloe, a hot cocoa please. Thanks, JR - I almost got TOP!
Paul, sorry I missed that the 10' (more or less) lengths were for your 7.5 RR. I thought you were building or adding to your inside layout. You better be careful not to forget to help with the farm chores, or Mary Ann might get after you. But if you can go LHS shopping, that sounds better than any chores I can think of.
Hoople - good to hear you used your waiting time productively.
I must have been dozing in the corner too much today - earlier, I was trying to find an article by David Barrow on his 'dominoes' layout planning ideas, but couldn't find it. Looked in the indices for the MRP issues that I have, but didn't think I saw it. However, when I got back home this evening, I found the article in the first MRP (1996) issue I started looking in, so guess it's a good thing I have a new pair of glasses coming in this next week(!).
Chloe, would you get me a hot fudge brownie sundae too, please? Thanks.
'Bout time for me to get back at the tracknailing again. See everyone tomorrow (if I don't get snowed in...
Blessings on the rest of your weekend,
Hoople wrote:Got my engine fixed...running two engines is AWESOME!(within 2 mins. of running 2 trains I rear-ended one of them...)
Hoople, you gotta watch that - hard to keep the trains running if one engine knocks another off! Congrats on getting things going so quickly, actually.
Good morning ! from Indiana.

Mornin., an irish coffee Janie,
Not to bad a day instore here, suppose to be sunny and a high in the mid 20's, sure hoping the roads are cleared tween here and Mattoon. Yesterday was bad, only ended up with a couple inches snow, but the highways were bad, from blowing drifting snow, out in the open areas. Alot of wrecks and slid offs, several people ended up in the hospital.
Their still predicting a warm up for this week [upper 30's to low 40's] and rain of course, mixed with snow at night.
Bryan, came over yesterday and he brought me a deal to good to pass up, a Praktica SLR 135 camera. Now I have a new toy to play with.
HOOPLE, glad you got that engine and got it going, I begining to worry bout you.
Got some play time yesterday on the layout even ran a couple trains. I'll be glad when I get some siding and that in, but that'll be a spell yet. Figure on some more time in there today before and after the swap meet.
Best get onto chores, hope ya'll has a good day
Morning all Not much happening around here . Took the cfo out for a ride in the new truck yesterday. Incase I didn't tell you I bought a Chevy silverado extended cab 2003 last weekend got a good price on it $10,800 including tax, titled and tags. so next 4 years my monly train money paying for a truck . needed a new one my old one has 200,000 + miles on it and just don't trust it on trip to PA. and all around here yes and plan to keep using it till it dies.
Not much train stuff going on but am starting to work on the room little by little finally. Working on some of the broken ones I've gotten in, in the past.
Well you all have a good day

Good mid-morning all -
Just a quick stop in while I'm waiting for the laundry to dry. Then I'll be gearing up for the BIG race at 3pm...yes, the 500.
Dick / Ed - BTW, pitchers and catchers started their 1st workout sessions of the spring 40 minutes ago (10am) - which only means one more thing... Spring and Summer are not far off!
Ok all - I'm outta here.

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010
I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Well, the one I sat in through the morning was unbelievably boring as usual. It's English Composition. They're teaching us how to write a research paper. Now I've been in College off and on since 1990, and for the last three and a half years solid. I'm very close to my bachelors degree. If I can't write a research paper by now, shame on them for waiting until now to teach me! I've written a plethora of papers, all of them done to the standards that are being taught, but they insist that I must sit there and write another for this class. I suppose I should look at it as an easy grade though, huh?
Now, the class in the evening was great. I teach that one, so I have a lot more freedom. I enjoy that one immencely.

English compisition? I can remember a lot of good daydreams around the time that I took that.
Afternoon all. A tall ginger ale sounds really good! It's a bit chilly this afternoon but the sun is shining. Hopefully we will soon see an end to this winter. I have some golf clubs calling my name.
Yes, the Maitland and Vira will be more of a point to point operation. Vira will have a granite quarry at the end of the line with a few business between there and Lewistown. I'm actually thinking of making this part of the layout only about eighteen inches deep.
In Lewistown I plan on including a version of John Allen's timesaver as a part of the track plan. I built a diorama of it to take to the office last November and it's been there ever since. That way I get to look at trains all day at work.
In Maitland I may put either a loop or a turntable. I have enough businesses there to require some good switching. I'm using XtrakCad and I'll post some ideas in the future to get your comments. I want to be sure this railroad is designed correctly. I made too many mistakes in the last one.
I was looking at the old layout this morning and I think that I can take it and turn it sideways to help me get the Lewistown part started.
Later...

Yeah, it's actually English Comp. 2. Still boring though!
Good Evening All,
Watched the race though I lost interest once Stewart was out. It would have been nice to see Mark Martin win but that wasn't in the cards either. All together too much wrecking - maybe they should lose the restrictors and use the road course chicane in the back.
Been doing chores and molding plaster all day. In between I got some more sceicking in on my gravel operation. Now all I need to do is figure out the secret to putting the pics where I can post them - used to be so easy, now I can't even get them to load.
Hope the rest of you had a good day. CUL, J.R.
Evening Gang: No MRRing today. I had to get Mary Ann's truck ready for it's inspection. for starters I had to charge the batteries. While that was going on I went to get the ridding mower out and checked over. One rear tire was flat and the battery was flat. So I pushed it over to the shop and aired up the tire. I had to wait for the truck batteries to charge up so couldn't put the charger on it. While I waited on that I started to clean up the milling machine. I finally got the truck started and put the charger on the mower. Found that the left turn signal blub was burned out. I got the mower started and Mary Ann started mowing the yard while I went to town to get a blub. Got back and replaced the blub and finished checking out the truck. We feed the cattle and got the chores done and I'm ready for bed. I'm tired.
Now I can't check my E-mail because PeoplePC doesn't recgognize my name. I am about feed up with them. I'll check on high speed tomorrow.
I guess my little trick last night worked, sorry JR.
Jim my hearing is so bad I didn't hear you over there in the corner.
I'm off to bed.
A quick Good evening to all: Had a productive day on museum things yesterday, and again this p.m…Looks like a Historical Society for this area may be a go. It’s certainly needed, and anyway I’ve now got a volunteer who knows what he’s about to take good photos of all our artefacts.
Mike: Nice score on the camera.
Hoople: Sounds like you’re having fun! Abyss tracks, I like that. Have several around here. Wasn’t there a discussion some time ago about “How close to the layout edge are your tracks?” Some of mine are quite close.
JP: Spring training was on our TV news this evening. I had just the same thought…roll on summer!
Found this on a (London) Daily Telegraph web site the other day. It brought back fond memories.
KJ:
Yes, the Maitland and Vira will be more of a point to point operation.
TV in just a bit. Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.
"There are always alternatives, Captain" - Spock.
Evenin' Chloe - just a hot cocoa to go, please. Thanks!
Paul, your hearing is fine, I just don't snore (at least, when I was married, my wife never said I did). Now your vision might be another matter, since my body is kind of hard to hide in that corner booth...
I got most of the mainline track nailed down this afternoon/evening - and I had to take up some because it was getting too close to the edge of the cork roadbed on one side. Found my extension cord, so I was able to use my Dremel to drill some additional holes for the spikes. I now have all the mainline (and the initial tracks off of it) all the way out to near the ends of the section. Feels better to get closer to done. Of course, I may have to take some of it back up for running feeder wires to under the board, but we'll see. Maybe I can carefully drill holes for the feeder wires from underneath and not damage the track. Guess I should start taking some pics again and post some of the progress, huh?
We had sunshine here today, and it warmed up to the upper 40's, which was nice! Supposed to warm up more tomorrow. Probably had a fair amount of the snow we had left, melting today. How's the white stuff up your way, JP or Dick or DerJohn and our N.S. crew? On the news tonight, they had about North Dakota's capitol regaining the world record for the most snow angels in one place (over 8900 people!) on the grounds of the capitol there.
That's about it for me - heading for bed now. Hope everyone had a good weekend (even those of us who have to go back to wk in the morning (like myself)).
Blessings and prayers,
