Tomorrow I'm getting a new camera. A Kodak C533. I know there's others that are a lot better but this is the only one I've found that zoom in super close on an object 8 inches away with crystal clarity and stays within $140. The only otehr one I found that could do that costs over $600. Too much for me!

Just a quick stop in tonight. Not much going on around here on either the MR side or the fire dept side. I will be stopping by the LHS on Friday though, just to browse, or so I hope. Evening Gang: The party went off fairly well concidering the weather. As it turned out it we had rain, sleet, and snow. Alot of the folks showed up and we had a good time. The company gave me a watch and the gang in maintinance gave me $251 that they collected. The WGH train show is 17-18 March so the money will come in handy. My foreman and some of the guys fixed the lunch and did a great job. The burgers were just right and with patato salid and beans tasted good in the cold. Now just 2 more days and I'm free.
Well it's a work day tomorrow so I'd better get to bed. I'll see you all tomorrow.

Good evening folks: Made a couple of A?C units for the roof of my Omega 3 Fish oil plant today. I’ve also just got through painting them, a couple of processing tanks, and some storage tanks for the same site. (the process tanks fit through the roof, the storage tanks are on the wharf, or in a mini tank farm off site.) More rock work attempted, not much though, as it’s a bit fiddly, and I’ve got to wait for some of yesterday’s to harden before I can work around it.
We are having a SP&S weekend garbage sail in march and I'm going to try to go, Kathy can't take the 100 mile ride very uncomfortable for her, so maybe I'll get to go. the hardest part for me has been trying to decide what I can fit on an around the room layout, how much of Northern three states of New England I can really include in the layout….Have any of you guys run into this same dilema, or, do you just model a small section of a RR?
What I’ve done is to try for scenes that have the flavour of the Maritimes, without being exact for any one Province or location. I’m also modeling CN, as I’m not a CP fan, and I’ll paint up some locos as lease units. That’s prototypical enough from what I’ve seen around these parts. VIA is one of my trains, and in a consist that is fairly like the run to Cape Bretton. Flavour, rather than exactness, is my approach.

Snow has arrived in Cape G. We have about a tenth of an inch (couple of mm's.) so far - I'd say it must have been coming down in the past hour or two, since I didn't see any coming down when I got back from prayer service. They're saying about an inch by tomorrow; no word on how much more through the day on RT's birthday... , RT!
Not sure if my little shredder has a thermal time-out on it, or if the motor overheated and I'll have to replace it. Was shredding some old pay receipts and credit card receipts that might have my account or SSN numbers on them. Didn't get through all of them yet. Clearing out various papers that are taking up space and I don't need...

Yesterday wasn't a good one, the lights went out just before 7 and was out for bout 2 hours. So I was behind on some chores. Then bout 11, I took a letter out to the mail box. slipped on some ice an landed hard on my back side. Ended spending most the day laying down cause my back an neck hurt so bad. Didn't get much done on wiring, to hard to crawl round under the layout. I may do some today, not feeling to bad now. Best get ta chores, hope ya'll has a gooden

Good morning everyone, the chores are done ( wood stove, pellet stove, empty ashes, bring in more wood, etc. ) so I have a few minutes before I get back to designing the layout. I really didn't want a "canned" layout, one taken out of the books we get from MRR, I wanted the New England area. For the 1st layout, downstairs in my 10.5' X 16' room, I want to build the Northern NE area. For industries of the 1930-1955 era. In particular, Milk trains from the farms and dairies, wood and lumber, paper mills, coal delivery, etc. and some passenger. In NEVER expected that the paper layout design would take me so long. I have a mountain of disgarded drawings. My desire is bigger than my room will allow!!!%$#$ . So, I am forced to scale back, use some "poetic license" and select what I can realistically fit on the layout without having a farm in Northern Vermont next to Boston, Ma, or Crawford Notch in the White Mountains of New Hampshire sitting on the B&M line next to Greenfield, Ma...ohh well....
MIKE: Good Lord man, be careful when you step out on ice, you can be permanently damaged!!!!!! Keep some salt handy and spread it on your walks if you suspect slippery conditions....the alternative is not good as you have found out. I sure hope you are feeling better today.

DER JOHN: Layout design phase is a pain in the butt for me, the benchwork was easy, wiring will be easy, soldering is easy for me......but trying to fit what I want and BEING HAPPY with it has cost me MONTHS because I am not happy with each design layout, and I won't lay one track until I am happy with the design, pulling up track later is not an option for me....planning phase "is".

Snowy out (for now, not coming down, but that may change), so should be a fairly slow day (good for paperwork) here in the office. Looks nice out there (with me inside where it's warm, of course). Zoe, I'll put another log in the wood stove for you.
Dick, do you have track planning/design software to try out some ideas (and save some of your paper)? I find that way I can save multiple versions when I'm trying something out, and then trash the files that don't make the cut. Another thing for you that might help would be either use Google Earth to look at some RR tracks in the NEast and when you find some area you like, do s screen print of it. That, or one of the RR maps or CDs you can find (as starting points for sections. Have you put down what your objectives for the RR are (such as - modeling logging ops, passenger runs or not/modeled after particular kinds/lines, etc.) so you can trim some but not leave out the most important things you want? Just a few ideas. And like you said, you always can use poetic license to merge a couple of features you like, but not take up extra space.
