eveninn, I'll have a barley pop dear,

O the CAR - TRAIN wreck there in town. a guy was coming accross the tracks and his car stalled. Tried to push it off, when he couldn't and the train [a W. bound inter-mobil] got close, he just walked off and left it. Car was totaled along with the flashing warning lights. Minor damage to the engine, cow catcher and bottom step on the right side, crew uninjured.  Sure messed up rail traffic for 2 hours though.

I had the scanner on and heard EMERGANCY EMERGANCY EMERGANCY SHUT DOWN CSX 1064. That got my notice. Course since they went into emergancy and the damage was minor, they still had to walk the whole train before it could be moved. They finaily got to move it up onto the N. passing track outback to clear the track. Then wait for the black box to be down loaded, before they could head on into Indy..

I'll catch up on the post laters maybe, ya'll have a gooden

Evening All: Tomorrow is my retirement party. It's going to be held in the picnic pavilion. The pavilion has a roof but no sides and of course no heat. The weather is supposed to be wet and cold. Figures.

Not mush going on so I'll head for bed. Good Night All

Good evening! Chloe, a cup of coffee and one of those blondies. Dinner [dinner] Yum!

Paul, maybe there'll be so many people there in the pavilion that if you stay in the middle, it'll be as warm as the center of a herd... ? (How warm would the center of a herd be in winter, anyway?). Enjoy your promotion to ROF status, and don't sleep in too late... Zzz [zzz]  (or go ahead, that honey-do list will wait, right? Wink [;)]

Chuck and Kathy, good to hear that you're not snowed in anymore. Hope Kathy can avoid any more trips to the hospital (or doctor) anytime soon.

OzJim, best wishes on your driving lesson(s) - are you doing it through a school, or private company/agency?

 jeffrey-wimberly wrote:

Customizing? Shock [:O] Jeff, I'd call it more like kitbashing... Oops [oops]

Inch, good to hear that no crew members (or the car driver) got hurt. Hope for the drivers' sakes that they can get that crossing signal replaced before too long.

Night two of our church's week of prayer and fasting (not to worry - I won't waste away; they're letting us skip lunch, but have dinner and breakfast). Tonight was praying for children and our schools - something they definitely need nowadays. Angel [angel] Angel [angel] Angel [angel] Last couple of days at work have been so hectic that I didn't have time for lunch yesterday, and 'lunch' was pretty late in the day today (ran an errand and got a cup of coffee just to go somewher else and sit down without interruptions. Actually, today I didn't particularly notice missing the meal at all. And, cheaper than South Beach or Weight Watchers...Wink [;)]

Supposed to go see one apartment complex (two sizes of apartment) on Thursday night after prayer service. From talking with the manager/owner and her son (who'll be the one to meet me there on Thursday night), they sound more reasonable than current landlord. But I'd like any and all prayers for the right place to be open at the right time, and to be able to work out the deposits and first month's rent arrangements with the new landlord (whether these folks or someone else). Thanks in advance, guys (and gals).

Blessings on 'Hump Day' and the rest of the week (for our working bunch - you ROF's sleep in), Smile [:)]

Good evening one and all!  I discovered today that I can make a half decent Banana-Bran loaf.Chef [C=:-)] There were four bananas too ripe for Kris, and too many for me too tackle on a restricted diet. (It’s not just total Carbs, Dick, but where they come on the Glycemic Index ) So Kris said “Why don’t you make some banana bread?”, and shoved a recipe in my direction.  It called for 1/3 cup of Splenda®, but that’s far too much, imho, so I used just 6 little packets of the stuff.  Turned out not too sweet.Dinner [dinner]

Der, in case Chuck and Kathy don't get back to it first, I believe that's the Spokane, Portland and Seattle (which I believe was part of the Northern Pacific, back in the ol' days...).

Good call, Jim.  The Spokane, Portland and Seattle was owned by GN and NP.  It never reached Seattle, but Seattle was included in the name to hide the fact that it was a route from Portland to Spokane on the north side of the Columbia River. In 1970, it merged into Burlington Northern.

Good morning all

Paul: Congratulations on the retirement!

Train vs. car: Part of my duties is a Pollution Investigator (PI). Last year I had to investigate a car vs. train.  East bound freight hit this car and I had 4 different fire departments helping me look.  Finding the train was easy; all we found of the car was a muffler, some parts to the rear breaks and an engine block.  About 3 days later we found a license plate.  Just as well it made my report easy.

Mornin, an irish coffee, ham n eggs please Zoe,

We have 7 outside this morning under clear skies, looking for a high of bout 25, S. wind at about 10. Increasing clouds in the afternoon and snow latter tonight into Thur..

Trains are still running on a slow order through Martinsville from that wreck, guess they haven't go the flashing light fixed at York st. yet.

PAUL, hope your party goes ok, and you get to enjoy your last day of employment.

PC, I enjoy that scanner, it's interesting to hear what going on with the trains. Like here while back a 50 car train came through the hot box detector and it shut the train down. The box detected 101 wheels and 5 hot boxes. The conductor had to walk the train just to make sure every thing was ok, even though box wasn't right, before they could override and go on.

Going to try and do some wiring on the layout later today, Got enough stuff moved out from under it, I think. Found 2 engines I forgot I had. They need a little work, but I think they'll run again. Need to get ta chores, if I''m gonna play any.

Mornin' All!

Well, it's a balmy 6 degrees here right now, and snow is on the way for tonight.

Gotta take the daughter to youth group tonight, but other then that, I'm just hangin' out.

So, whats up with you all?

I should look into getting one of those.  I'm right next to the tracks, so if anything was going on I could just pop over for a looksee.

Morning Gang: Just 2 more days and I'll be able to lay around as much as I want. Yea Right. Mary Ann will not let that happen. It's about time to hit the bricks so I'll see you all later. I have the new guy to orient today. He's got a heck of alot of talent. Much more then I have but he'll have to learn the mechcanical and electrical end of the job. He's sharp so there is now worry there. I told him that if push comes to shove he can always give me a call. I wouldn't do that for alot of folks.

I'll see you all later and thanks for the well wishes.

Good morning, all. Zoe, that omelet Jeff's having looks tasty - I'd like one of those, with a cup of coffee and a glass of skim milk (had my oj before I headed over here). Thanks! I'll be eating it over in the window booth.

So Paul - do I have it right, that Friday will be your first day of retirement? Not that you're keeping track, of course. Wink [;)] Funny how the wives think that the guys retire from a job, only to become a full-time employee around the house... Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]  (Lisa or Sue aren't in the Diner, are they?)  Uh, Zoe, I meant no disrespect to you or Chloe, of course...Black Eye [B)]

PC and Inch, we're having a (comparative) heat wave here - 9 degrees and no added wind chill (but of course, no wind this a.m., either). Supposed to warm up to about 28 (F) today, with clouds lowering through the day and snow supposed to start later tonight. Don't think the weather prediction models have decided which way this storm will track - one model showed the Cape area possibly getting 4 to 6 inches (10-15 cm. or so) of that white stuff, but the radar this morning shows the snowy stuff way out near the SW Missouri/Kansas border, and tracking NE (like toward St. Louis or west of there). Who knows? (well, okay - He knows, but the weatherguessers? - NOT!) We'll see by tomorrow.

Stay warm today - looks like a cold one for most of the middle section of the US (and Maine and our Canadian brethren probably may get the same kind of stuff if that Nor'easter I think DerJohn was talking about arrives). Bundle up time!

Blessings on your middle of the week,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

JimCG: Actually Friday is my last day. Today is my party and it's cold and rainy and sleeting, and now it started to snow. Oh yes and the party is outside in the picnic pavilion. I get the feeling even God is mad at me. Anyway I'll stop in later. TTFN

Good morning everyone, almost lunch time I see.....the little snow storm last night fizzled out, we only received a trace, enought to just coat the roads. I think Friday's storm is going to be another fizzle, maybe an inch or two, a lot of hype no action.

JERRY: We will keep Sallie in our prayers, she has been through a lot hasn't she ?

MIKE: Did you get to the scene of the accident with your camera?

PAUL: T-2 big guy!!! Now remember, when you are retired, stay OUT of the wife's kitchen, don't tell her how to organize the shelves, just go work on the layout or play with the herd. LOL

TRENT: Sounds like you guys did quite a business last year with Lionel!! How about HO and N gauge?

Today, I am still working on the layout, the hardest part for me has been trying to decide what I can fit on an around the room layout, how much of Northern three states of New England I can really include in the layout. Certainly, I cannot layout the area to HO scale miles, so there must be some " layout license " that I will apply. One track run around the entire layout would be 52 feet, which in 1:87 scale is 4524 feet, not even ONE LOUSY MILE of real life !!!!!!  Have any of you guys run into this same dilema, or, do you just model a small section of a RR?

Later,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Dick,

Selective compression is a good thing.  Problem is, it doesn't cram three states onto a 2x4 module, ya know?

I'd model either one section really well, or perhaps you could partition things off and divide up the layout to model three small portions of each state.

PHIL: Thanks for your inputs, I am at the point of parts of the three States right now in my thinking. My layout sits in a room of 10.5 feet wide by 26 feet long, but I am using only 16 feet in length for the layout because I have my desk and work area at the end 10 feet.

The layout has 2 tables end to end along one wall giving me 16' length x 64" wide ( some lift outs along the wall to reach some areas ), 30" X 16' along the opposite wall, a connector at one end that is 36" X 30" , and a lift out connect at the opposite end that is 30" X 24", making the complete rectangle.

Good afternoon, Zoe - how about a nice cheeseburger (use that lean ground beef , please) and a salad and Dr. Pepper, please? Thanks, Colby!

Dick, I'd be inclined to second PC's suggestion in terms of using selective compression (plus use some cuts and tunnels to make runs seem longer than they are) to give a flavor of various parts of New England. Think I read it in one of the MRP issues or MR, but someone said to pick out maybe a few yards/towns from different sections of the RR's coverage area and use those LDE's that bring a 'flavor' of each state rather than go hog wild and have the CFO toss you out for trying to take over the sewing or living room... Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^] It's getting too cold for you to be outside with the dogs, anyway! Wink [;)]

Still cold (comparatively) here midday - 24 (F) with a wind chill of 14. Bit breezy - one of those wonderful winds that cuts through any uncovered skin surfaces...[brrrrrr!!] I can only imagine what Dick and our Nova Scotians are feeling like, with that ocean 'breeze' adding the cold & damp together.

Ah, that cheeseburger hit the spot - Zoe, could I have a go cup refill for my Dr. Pepper, please? Thanks!  Everyone stay inside as much as possible (Paul, keep that retirement speech brief today, given how you said the weather there is Shock [:O]) and put another log on today (and better call in the dogs for tonight!).

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Dick,  I like the selective compression idea.  We tend to use our tunnels as a definition between areas.  Ten feet is a lot of area for a desk.  We put our desks under the layout.  Mine sits under the TT.  How is that for great?

Good afternoon gents, warmed up to 26F now at 2:45pm......I may jump in the pool for a quick dip if I can find a hole in the ice.

CAPE JIM: I plan to do much of what you and PC have suggested, I have plenty of table space width and overall length, so with tunnels and mountains, all of which we have in New England, it should be do-able. BTW, Der John lives right on the coast in NS, I live 50 miles inland, due west of Boston, Ma, so we rarely feel any effect from the ocean except when we get a strong Northeast wind.

See you guys at supper, hey JEFF, whats for supper ???

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !!
