Evening guys! or morning to you Smile [:)]

To the guys and girls in Florida, I'm glad your alright! by the sounds of it, your very lucky, and from what I hear it was a biggun?

On a side note we had an F2 (equivalent, we don't have F ratings for Tornados) touched down in  southwestern Queensland (150km or so from me) and blew an unloaded coal train clean of the tracks. We get a few tornado's here, they just aren't reported as much as in the US. In the 80's we had an F3 (equiv) cut through the southern suburbs of Brisbane for 23km, lot's of damage.

Mornin, an Irish coffee , Janie,

Cold here this morning, 9 now, looking for a high in the low teens under partly cloudy skys, Wind  chill close to -10, with a W. wind running 20 to 30 mph. Makes me glad we live in the woods, all those trees help with the wind. I can sure tell the difference tween home and the flat lands.

JERRY, glad Sally's home an doing better. We'll be thinking of ya'll

PAUL, Hope you enjoy your first day a retirement. Try not to work to hard.

SCOTT, congrds on the part. I too can remeber the Twilight Zone one of my favorite shows.

Went to Terre Haute last evening and made it to the LHS just before closing time. Picked up a new track cleaning eraser, and some engine lube. Cleaned the track good we I got home and ran a couple more trains. Only the older ones would run any without cleaning, so, part of the plan for today is some engine cleaning. Need to put in a couple more power drops and lay some more road bed for the other main.

Won't get as much done as I want, got kids, 2 of the bigger ones are here for the weekend and KC will be here this morning, and I think 2 of our nephews are coming out for the super bowl tomorrow [both BEARS fans ]

Best get ta chores so I can get in some play time.

Lee- The nearest it hit was one mile. Took the roof off a small building, uprooted a palm tree behind it, pushed over an old large oak tree that destroyed a home next to it. It then moved northeast and hit two other locales in Lake county. Weatherman was plotting it and claim it was moving ,west to east, at 50 mph.

Evening all!

Well, I haven't been around much lately.  I have been workin' on the RR!  No really!  My old jigsaw took a turn for the worse and I couldn't go any further without one (well, I could, but it would take forever by hand) and so I went out and got a new one.  The last one was a 1960's Black & Decker, but it was just plain worn out.  Got a new Chicago Tools (never heard of them) saw with a laser guide for a paltry $20!  Been busy ever since.

Gotta run!

Prayers to all those in need!

I haven't been on much today. I've been working on my new E7. Converted it to DCC yesterday and did the largest part of the painting today. I put a Radio Shack 12v micro lamp for the headlight. Talk about bright!

Anyway, here's some pics.

The unit as it looked out of the box.

Two pics showing the decoder wired in.

At the maintenance shop, awaiting paint.

After painting. I still have to add the trim.

That's all for now.

Evening Gang: I had a good day here. We got a bunch done and laid out some things for tomorrow. I did get to the basement for a few minutes. I just showed Mary Ann some counter tops that I think will work out for her office. I'll rehab 4 two drawer file cabnets that I have socked away and put the counter tops on them. That should make a good desk and work space. Plenty of room to spread out. Of course that also means a little less clutter in the way of the layout. Evil [}:)]

Today really didn't feel like a retired day. I' have to wait untill later in the week and see if it sinks in that I don't have to call in sick or ask for vacation.

I guess I'm getting old. It's 9pm and I'm ready for bed. I'll see you all tomorrow.

Good Night All

Jeff: you use E-Z track too? Neat. I'm thinking of expansion, but I'm wondering how the #5 and #6 turnouts perform. I just Atlas turnouts because bachmann doesn't make #4s, and from my past experience, the snap switches are abysmal when it comes to operating.

I use only EZ track. I have no problems with the #5 and #6 turnouts. Just don't take a train through a #5 at mach 6! You'll have a mess to clean up. Don't ask me how I know. I use #5's for interchangeing between the main line and the branch line and #6's at the maintenace facility because I wanted the tracks within an inch of each other.

You must have a large layout. At the LHS, I saw the #6s are they in one piece? If they are, their like 2' long!
I know the don't go through mach 6. I had two #6 crossovers, but one cam without the switching rails, and the other eventually lost them. I was going about 80 SMPH with about 30 cars in tow. I hit the switch-(Literally, I hit it)and there was a 30 car pilup. (Not to mention another train was running close behind with 10 cars, going 90 SMPH...)
EDIT: What do you use to make a #5 to back to parralel and a #6?

You may be thinking of a crossover track. The #6's I buy are a foot long and have a 2 1/2" peice to extend it. To make a #5 go back straight use a section of 18" radius curve. To make a #6 come back straight I use a 3 1/2" peice of 18" curve.

First time in the Diner today, very busy day......we received an unexpected 4.5" of snow last night, so the snowblower got it's first workout of the season...FEB3???? Unbelievable for central New England!!!

So after the driveways and walkways were cleared, the wife had to go to a bridal shower, I offered to drive her there and wait for a few hours. Why do such a foolish thing you ask?  Shhhhhhhhhhhh, there is nice LHS within 5 minutes of the restaurant where she had to go. I spent a nice hour or so there, good conversation and about $90 later I had a few things that I needed for the layout.

Then it was back home to help the wife prepare the chow for tomorrow's Superbowl party......meatballs, deserts, finger sandwiches, shrimp ( from Jeff's back yard bayous), all the good stuff. Strawberry-Rhubarb pie.....DUKE where are you Duke?

Time for bed, see you guys tomorrow,

Good afternoon everyone, just took a break from all the preparations for big SuperBowl party here at the house..the wife and I have been cooking, stuffing finger rolls, all sorts of stuff before the gang arrives in a couple of hours.......a bone chilling 17F here right now with a wind chill of 7F, and it feels it too....I just filled the bird feeders and nearly froze out there.......too spoiled after the mild winter we had I guess.

So who in the Diner is rooting for which team? Seeing the Patriots are not playing, I guess I will go with the Colts, I just have to see if Payton can win ONE big one!! Besides, he has the greatest FG kicker that the Patriots ever had, now on the Colts team, so I can cheer for Adam Vinateri

David: Good to hear from you again! I got your email and understand that you're coming back to Leesville in about a month. We still have y'alls old trailer over here. It hasn't been rented out yet.

Grayfox: I'm not really concerned with who wins and loses. I want to see the commercials. The SuperBowl commercial are always a blast.

JEFF: I'm with you Jeff, seeing the Pats are not in the superbowl, and for you the Saints, you and I can enjoy the commercials. Wait to you see the one where the guy has a cockatoo to guard his refrig so that his buddy doesn't swipe his beer. There has been some "previews" on UTube this week.

I couldn't believe how STUPID some people were. Going under the crossing guards arms, racing a train to get across. Gas trucks, school buses, semi's. El Cajon had three disasters- kinked brake hose caused runaway trains. Many more accidents caught by railfans. Unreal!.

Darn, almost time for bed. 4:30 gets here early. Nice thing about this job, I see many beautiful dawns and sunsets. I'll find out who won the game when I awaken

Goodnight. prayers for all.

Evening gang:

Dick, you sly old dog. Do the wife a favor and end up at the LHS. I've never done that.Whistling [:-^]

Not much going on here. I spent the day working on gathering up brush and hauling it to the burn pile. I had a grapple installed on the loader last week and just got the time to use it today. I did about 4hrs of work in one and didn't break a sweat.

Well Mary Ann has a doctors appointment tomorrow so it's get up early. Wait tomorrow is my first real day of retirement and we have to get up early? Nuts.

Evenin' everyone - Janie, I'd like a bowl of that chili, with cheese and crackers and a cold glass of milk. Thanks!

It was colder here this a.m. - I about keeled over when I started up my computer and my weather widget said -2 (F), and that was without any wind, so no wind chill! Wow!! [wow] Got about 2 inches of snow overnight (the weatherguys were saying 1/2 inch to 3/4 when I got ready for bed). It warmed up almost to freezing during the day, but we're back down to 23 now (with wind chill of 17) F, and heading for about 12 F overnight. Think the weatherguessers are saying possibility of more snow by Wednesday, but I'm hoping it will be the powdery stuff like we got last night. That brushed off easy with a broom. Roads weren't too bad today, and by the time church and small group was done, the light stuff that had been left was melted off. Our youth pastor (when he was doing the announcements early in the service) said there'd been people calling and asking if we were going to have church, and the answer was YES. (Maybe might not, if we got a nasty blizzard, but otherwise we don't cancel). After all, we're in Southeast Missouri, not New England or Colorado! Wink [;)]

So far, my favorite commercials (through first half) from the game include the FedEx 'moon office' commercial, the Chevy one with everyone singing car songs, and the Budwieser one on the English class (learning how to ask for a Bud Light, and how to say 'no'). Couple of other good commercials were the lions in the Taco Bell one, and the Bud commercial with the white dog (who gets splashed by a car and fakes being a Dalmatian...). The game itself has had some surprises (from the start, huh?).

FYI, next Saturday at our church, we're having (former St. Louis Cardinal) Lou Brock speak at the 5:30 p.m. service. If any of you might be interested and near the area, email me for directions. Should be good. Oh, (thinking of Ed in Mexico) how long until spring training starts?

Just scanned some things in this afternoon (wanted a timeline of diesel production dates/years from a MR back issue I have), and made a quick run to the store for some chips and dip fixin's. I've had more productive days, and some that were less productive, too.

Jeff, nice work on the E-unit. Will you be painting that in KCS colors, or leaving it as is?

TrainMaster - good to see you in the place again! What've you been doing with yourself?

Dick, never hurts to offer the CFO transportation - especially if there's a LHS not far away Big Smile [:D] - Good move!

Paul, you need to have MaryAnn schedule those appointments later in the day, now that you're retired! Like you said, you're supposed to be retired, not setting the alarm. Hey, maybe if it's going to take a while for her at the Dr's... is there an LHS close to the doctor's office?

Still on the hunt for a new apartment - haven't heard from the current landlord since sending him this month's rent check, so I still am in okay standing to remain here.

That chili was good, Janie! I'll be heading out for now. Tomorrow (for those of us who aren't ROF's, unlike Paul... Evil [}:)]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^] ) is back to work time. Sigh [sigh] Think I'm ready for a vacation.

Prayers for those in need of them (especially some of Flip's neighbors in Florida).

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Howdy,

Chilly here too; we made it all the way to 5 degrees F today.  Went outside to start my truck and found I forgot to plug in the block heater and my right battery was dead. So got a jump start and paid $90 for a 860 cca battery.  I just hope the left battery stays healthy until next payday.  Waterline broke 3 blocks away and the main road looks like a river so we horded water in a bucket and a few jugs.  I know we will be without water for at least 10 hours.

I hope everyone out there is doing ok with the cold.

Jeff: nice pictures, looks like you've been busy.
