Mornin, coffee n a couple doughnuts Zoe.

Cold this morning [36] wind chill 26, expecting a high of 47 with gust wind 25 to 30.

PHILRUNT,,your bout right on what rail fanning is. It's taking your camera n going out looking for trains. I take a camera most anytime we go somewhere. Sometimes I get lucky and catch one or two. Me n mother have even chased them a few times to get a shot. Other times it's like you there in Muncie, not one train around.

JERRY, pump jack looks good, you n Andy did a fine job.

RT, good score at HL. Guess I need to get over that way one of these days.

JR,, probably not the best for the diner. Can you imagine what it would do to the turkey or PC's pie?

PC,,, glad to hear the wife's home.

I just had KC yesterday and she was in a hold me mood, sure was a pain, but I got plenty of hugs n kisses. Today I just have Jbirds maybe, her mommy may not have to work. Either way I got a bunch of chores, getting things done for our turkey day along with other the chores. Hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe

On the paint scheme, I borrowed a concept from the early light-weight streamliners, less is more. By keeping it simple it's easy to reproduce. The decals are all of my own design. I made them right here on my printer. I use decal paper when I can get it, otherwise I print them on airmail paper.

Good Morning All,

Rainy and in the high 40's this morning. Went in for more blood work this morning so we'll see how that goes.I'll have that twisty donut thingy of Bills' and a regular please. And maybe some of Eds' orange juice. Even though Phil might not agree, I doubt that strawberry ice cream counts as a fruit dish. And gee I really thought that laser would have been a good idea for the diner. Besides we could use it during down time to cut out parts for our model railroad structures. And just think we could use it to cut our racks of ribs apart without getting all covered in sauce! Aw come on guys won't you reconsider?Whistling [:-^]

PC - hope everything continues to go smoothly. The CFO has had four knee surgeries and will eventually require at least one replacement the result of playing catcher in fast pitch softball for 16 years. At least now I know what to prepare for.

Jerry - awesome oil pump. We used to drive through the Kettleman Hills on our way to the coast and see hundreds of those bobbing away. If you put some fencing up you can get away without the rubber band drive belt.  I have a lighted magnifier I use for checking spark plugs here at the shop I keep thinking would do for close in w..k on the N scale stuff. Maybe santa could bring you a magnifier and tweezers?

Fergie - there's nothing wrong with pink rolling stock. Here's what happens when you use non UV stable floor wax to clean a red caboose.

Well, gotta go and this morning, I'm changing tires so I've put it off longer than usual, but it is time to pick up tools.    CUL, J.R.

Mornin' all!

Cooled off around here the last few days!

Today: Blustery, much colder, a few sprinkles & flurries possible...High: 43

Tonight: Clearing and cold...Low: 25

The Mrs. is home and as comfortable as can be expected for now.  We have two physical therapists coming over today.  My mom is also there.  Her wheelchair and stuff is due to be delivered any time.  I, unfortunately, could not take another day off.  The boss was freaking out.  I guess I should be thankful I'm so necessary to the company, huh?  Truthfully though, I just want to be home taking care of my wife.  Oh well!

I guess I'd best get at it!

Later!

Whistling [:-^]

Good Morning all,

Hey Zoe, Front and center,  I'll have two par-boiled caraway seeds on toast and a large OJ.  I'm told that I should loose a little wieght.

Here is a good diner laugh The Seniors Breakfast Special
**********************************

I LOVE this one.....it will make your day. Send it to the Seniors in your life - I'm sure they'll appreciate it!!
It pays to think outside the box!

We went to breakfast at a restaurant where the "seniors' special" was two eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast for $1.99. "Sounds good," my wife said. "But I don't want the eggs." "Then I will have to charge you two dollars and forty-nine cents because you're ordering a-la-carte," the waitress warned her. "You mean I'd have to pay for not taking the eggs?" my wife asked incredulously. "YES!!" stated the waitress. "In that case I'll take the special." my wife said. "How do you want your eggs?" the waitress asked. "Raw and in the shell," my wife replied. She took the two eggs home.

DON'T MESS WITH SENIORS!!! We've been around the block more than once.

Got to go for now, must deliver a dryer for my son who is at work. I have been off for three days, have to go in tomorrow though.

Have a great day,  Will catch you all on the back side.

Morning, Diners - Zoe, a JR regular, glass of Ed's OJ, glass of milk, and some cereal, please!

...and I'll be over at the back table. Thanks. S'cuse the mask, Zoe. Don't want to give anyone what I have!

Yesterday, I had them cancel my afternoon appointments and left w**k early. I was feeling the aches in my lower back, in my legs, and suspected I had the flu or something. Got home some before two, and slept till a little before five. Had some veggie beef soup for dinner (I'd had the chicken & rice for lunch), watched the news and checked email, then went back to bed after checking my temp (about 102 F).Dead [xx(] This morning it was 100, so I told them I wouldn't be in today (I'm on-call for tonight, so hoping I'll be through with this by then. That, or that I don't have to get called out). And I had the flu shot several weeks ago. I'll be missing our w**k 'Thanksgiving dinner/lunch today, but I don't think I would appreciate it too much.

PC, good to hear your wife is coming home. Take good care of her, and be cautious with the pain meds. I have heard of some people who took the pain meds only as prescribed and still wound up having trouble getting off them after they'd healed. But I know she'll need them some, after those surgeries. Angel [angel] Ferrari's, huh? Wink [;)]

Our weather here today has turned 'more seasonal' (as the weather guy said) - 30's this morning, high of 50 (F), and cold wind gusts (probably in the 15-25 mph range). They were saying there probably would be a wind chill factor today (Oh, whoopee!...) Problem is, I'm out of milk and need to run by the store to get some minimal groceries that are easier for my system. Well, bundle up time.

Fergie, that's one nice loco - will you be repainting it in MESS(tm) regalia, or will the CP have trackage rights through?

Jerry, very nice job on the oil pump, and I wouldn't worry about the belt in iNvisible scale. As JR said, just put a fence around it and no one will even notice. Now, the fence may be fun to do, from what I've heard from some of our MRR club members...

RT, nice score on the PA! Good to hear that others are using their HL 40% coupons. Was your price 40% off the sale price? That'd be even better if they do that...Smile [:)]

Cary, that bristles idea on the hump yard might be a simpler way to slow the cars. Just make them so you can easily replace the bristles as they wear out. Thumbs Up [tup]

Dave, Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back! Sign - Ditto [#ditto] what DerJohn said on more coming back, over the past couple of months, especially.

Well, I'd best get my liquids into me and mosey on out before I give somebody this crud. See you later!

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Afternoon Gang: Just barely. I just stopped in for a quick pick-me up.

Rob: Are you sure that you went to a service shop and not a dementia ward? Even this old dum helicopter pilot could figure that out. I'm happy to hear that you got a good rain. It's getting a little dry here again and no rain in the forcast.

Well I've got fences to take care of and a downed tree that needs to be cleaned up. Rob knows how it is with a ranch/farm operation.

See you all later.

It will take me a while to catch up on the posts.  You guys have been busy. If I miss responding, please ask again.

Sunday I worked on my geodesic foam hard shell.  I finished a small piece on Monday before work.  I will paint it and then on to ground goop.  I am trying to extend my stream.

Mark,  Thanks for the link on the 4449.  We would probably be more interested in the S,P, & S.   Looks like Larry won't be home until late Saturday, so we will hit Puyallup on Sunday.  Save some of the hot deals for us.

Ryan,  Yes, I am hoping to get some photos this weekend.  I like your expansion joints.

Jim,  Gray and drizzley, Hmmm,  That sounds like today.

Philip,  Glad to hear that you wife is doing ok.

Fergie,  Nice new loco.  Your yard looks very functional for operating sessions.

JR,  Congrats on the decoder score.

I am off to do some mowing in the trees.

Sue

Yeah, they sure did. The storm went east of us here and missed us completely. All we got is some cold air and a lot of beautiful blue sky. You wouldn't believe how clear the air is here.

Two vintage Safeway cars arrived today. Had one as a kid and it is the only car I never replaced. One day I'll get the new wheel/coupler sets for them (and others).

Dipping into the 20's tonight. Good thing we picked up another load of hay today. Nothing left in the pastures for the horses or cows to eat at this point. I'll be enjoying my coffee in a corner booth.  Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

RT .... good news about the deal from Hobby Lobby. As I mentioned, there are train shows in the Nashville area early in December.

I'm about 4 hours away from nashville I'm about 40 miles east of knoxville so it kinda far for a day run for me. in all honestly I'd do better waiting for york train show(mainly O gauge items)  in april as I could stay at brothers and only be about 30 miles away from there.

I've been suffer for a while if you remember I bought a n scale engine about a year ago and a box car for it too. still need to get track and transformer and more cars for it it needs a wide turn radius as its an 4-8-4 with 16 wheel tender for a n scale its long about 9"

Evening Gang:

Hogger: The ladies serving here, Zoe, Cloe, and Janie, like to be treated nicely. You know, please, thank you, yes mam, and no mam. They have a way of giving us an attitude ajustment. Just ask Flip and Fergie. I'm just kidding of course. I never did say welcome, so here you are Sign - Welcome [#welcome].

Rob, I think that you left the twilight zone a ways back and went right to plaid.

I didn't get to work on the fence, I did clean up some black plastic pipe that the well drillers left behind. It's 2" dia and about 1000ft long. I cut it into about 15 ft pieces to make it easer to handle and will use it for moving water with my gas pump. Tomorrow it's doctors all day. First my regular and then the VA. Fun, fun, fun. I got a call from my friend with cancer. He's in the hospital. He didn't sound to good. I hope that he does all right. Give him a prayer.

Well it's time for bed so I'll say

…didn’t see you in TZ this afternoon.  That was when the courier we had been waiting for all day, and staying in for so as not to miss him, sped by without stopping.  Today was when we were to have received our DSL modem from the isp via courier.

NOT!  Turns out that there was an “error” with our order, and now we won’t get it ’til Monday.  Nice of them to phone and tell us wasn’t it? Censored [censored]Disapprove [V]Angry [:(!] We would have been waiting all day tomorrow if I hadn’t phoned to find out why the courier didn’t deliver.

Northern Phil:

der-I use pencils a lot in modeling, probably due to all of the doodling I did in school. You can add personalized graffiti, weathering, facial hair and wristwatches, all sorts of neat stuff!

You don’t find the graphite is a bit shiny for weathering, or is it just specific effects you’re after like the oily patches you mentioned before?

Jerry:

Johnder....I can't wait to see photos of steel pilings...
…I painted the sections burnt sienna this evening while reading my email.  I’ll see what they are like in the morning. If OK, I’ll cut them down to a scale 25’ deep, and that will be enough “freeboard” for the dock, as well as giving me sufficient length to do the dock.  I figure on mounting the pilings on a narrow strip of hardboard or similar, and resting on another narrow horizontal strip with blocks underneath screwed to the facia.  I’ll pour a plaster ocean on that horizontal strip, calm this time as it’s in a quite different part of the coast, and the 25’ will give me a different tide level too.

Fergie, maybe he means the two boxcars on the track two to the right of the ore cars?  BTW, are you going to the Dartmouth show? I’m figuring on Saturday morning.  Kris has to pick up copies of her new Frenchy’s book from the publisher in Lawrencetown, and she’ll drop me off at the show after we’ve done that.

Johnboy: Welcome back!  That senior’s joke was great! Thumbs Up [tup]…as it says, don’t mess with us, we’ve been around!

Ed: Thanks for the website.

I guess it’s bedtime again here on the Eastern Shore. So I’ll say Good night all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing (inc. Paul’s friend), comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

Hello Diners!

PC......... It's really good that your Mom can help with Mrs. PC. . That way you can go to the wonderful work place. Of course, we'll keep praying for Mrs. PC's recovery from surgery.

Colby ...... One week vacation!  Any planned model railroad projects?

RT .... 4 hours one-way is a bit far. Oh Well.

JR ..... A pink caboose. Terrific!

Johnboy (Saskatchawan) ... Enjoyed the senior breakfast story. Your wife could have told the server: "The yolk is on you!".  Suggest you have breakfast in the diner after this.

Fergie .... Don't "MESS" with the 4-8-4's paint job. It's beautiful. Now that you're into 4-8-4's, I've got visions of a 2-10-2 for my railroad. There may be some left over after all.

Rob......... Oh?  You expect air in all 4 tires????? Silly idea.

Hello der.

We didn't have spinach salad tonight. Not after last night's scare.

I have nearly completed my shed for the track department and am working on the scene. Photos will soon be available too. If you're interested in an idea for working HO door hinges that are nearly invisable ............... tune in this weekend.

Happy Model Railraoding!!!!

Hey guys, only one other person cruising the area tonight. Whoever you are, howdy! Guess I should pay more attention to the opening page to see whats going on.

der- I have only used the sharp end for graffiti and the such, and using it that way, you don't pick up the graphite shine unless you see it from an acute angle. Also, I didn't clarify that I used Roseart Colored pencils also, on light cars-grey, white, etc.- they look (to me at least) like faded paint. They also come in handy for sun bleached paint streaks if you can find a lighter color for whatever car you might be weathering.

One of the better things I stumbled onto was using a sharp pencil and a piece of typewriter correction paper. You can make pretty convincing chalk marks like this, so a couple of my cars have "RIP" or "BO track" scribbled on them. I also have a couple with Kilroy and the little guy with the sombrero under the palm tree, Herbie, if I remember right. I also used this method to make "construction remarks" on a bunch of steel beams used as a flat car load. I thought it could also be used to create graffiti, but as soon as I thought that, the taggers went to colors that boggle the mind!

As for the oil stains and the such, I use the edge and smear it with a finger tip, but now that you mentioned it, I suppose you could hit it with a quick shot of flat finish. I might just have to take another look at those stains under better lighting!

JeffreyW- I never thought about using air mail paper. (Hope I quoted that right, it's been a long night). If I didn't I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. That sounds like an idea worth checking out.

Gonna go read some more, and try to keep from falling asleep! Gettin too old for this graveyard shift!

We don't get snow in Louisiana, just ice.
