Evenin'.
Just stopping in.
Sue: Yes, I'm going to the Puyallup GATS show, probably on saturday. As for the link, http://orhf.org/events/07holiday/index.html should help you out. Tickets are $15.50.
Jim: How often do I get classic steam in my area, well once every 7 years or so. I'm driving to Portland, a 3 hour drive to see 4449, where she resides, along with SP&S 700 and OR&N 197, so yes, they aren't in my area, but they are within driving range.

Good morning,
Today there is predicted T-Storms this afternoon, but a high temp of 57.
I went to the Norwalk and Western model train show yesterday morning in Milan, Ohio. I was very disappointed in the last 9 years it has shrunk from one of the largest operating N scale modular layouts to one operating HO scale layout on a 4x8 table and only about 20 flea market tables. The vendors wanted $3 to $10 for Tyco brown box rolling stock and $2 for old brass turnouts. The real disappoint came when I stopped to get fuel on the way home it was $3.59 a gallon for diesel.

Mornin' all!
It's looking wet out there, but at least it's not cold!
Today : cloudy, warmer with spotty t-showers - high: 65Tonight: rain and storms developing, rain heavy at times - low: 50
Just getting ready for another day of work. Wife has surgery tomorrow, so I don't know how much I'll be here for the next few days. She's a bit intimidated, but she's ready. I'm just praying for the best for her.
Oh well, I'd best get at it!
Later!
Oh yeah, and Chloe........this page is mine, OK? Get my friends whatever they want!
Cox47, great news about Sallie! You've got to be excited, happy and relieved. I hop-e all continues to improve.
It will be in the 80's in Southeast Texas today and much of this week. Gee, I thought it was fall, already!
Spent much of the weekend rearranging furniture with my fiance. The good news is that we will live in my house and the model railroad stays. The bad news is that the rest of the house is going to be rearranged. She was in her house since 1976 and I've been in mine since my late wife and I built it in 1982. Boy do we both have some sorting, disposing, and rearranging to do!
Have a great veteran's day to all us veterans!
Steve Barkley
Almost lunchtime, Zoe - how about some chili today, and a glass of milk, please?
Thanks, PC!
Grey day here, but not too cold - supposed to hit the upper 60's by afternoon. Not as hot as your weather, Steve B. About like summer for you and Paul today, I'd guess. Need some suntan lotion?
Jerry, great to hear Sallie's getting used to being home (and great for you, too, I'm sure).
Steve, good to hear that the layout won't be displaced. I'm sure it will be 'fun' to fit all of your fiance's stuff and yours into the same space...
Hey, my eastern neighbors (Inch, Jerry, Garry, Lee, PC) - did you folks get much rain yesterday? We got the dust knocked down a bit, but not a lot of accumulation (mostly in the morning). Some thunder and a short downpour, but gone by after lunch and turned sunny in the afternoon.
Well, I didn't get much done on the clearing out yesterday. Need to get motivated better than I have been doing. Well, I did get the iMac and a 17" CRT (which got a bit flakey and probably needs to be recycled somewhere) moved to my storage unit. Also brought home my Christmas decorations (though they aren't going up until after Thanksgiving), and a plywood sheet (for laying out an extension curve off one side of the layout, and also for extending the town).
I'll be eating my chili in the booth if anyone else comes in for lunch, Zoe.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
hey guys.

Jerry glad to hear your wife is home.
Glad to see weekend photo fun was fun.
And thank you to all our vets.

Evening Gang: Not much going on here. I tried to weld those bale feeders but the metal is so thin that it's almost impossible to weld without melting a hole. I will try again tomorrow. I may get out the wire welder and give it a try. The problem is I don't have a bottle of gas so I'll have to use the flux core wire.
Jerry: Good to hear that Sallie is home and doing well.
PC: Best wishes for your wife and hope that everything goes well. I'll be pulling for her.
Well I'm going to head for bed.
Good Night All
Evening all, an Irish coffee please Cleo. Kinda of a chilly damp with the rains.
Hope ya'll had a good veterans days and a thanks to all my fellow vets.
I spent mine working on chores n outside on leaves after the rain yesterday and today with J Bird. Also building a couple baby doll beds to replace the ones the girls lost in the fire. With luck I'll have one ready for paint next weekend.
PC, we're keeping your wife in our thoughts for a great outcome tomorrow.
JERRY, glad Sally made it home and getting along ok.

Let me tell you a story that will take you to the very depths of despair, and then raise your spirits as if they had wings!
We have a new ethanol plant a few miles from our place, and Norfolk Southern has increased traffic through our little burg considerably. I have been trying to catch a solid train of tank cars rolling through Redkey since they began, a few months ago. This last Saturday AM, I heard the train sounding for the crossing just east of town, and, even though I was still in my PJ's, I hopped up, quick as a bunny, and rushed to my truck.
Whose windshield was covered in frost. Undaunted, I scraped it off well enough to have to look out the side window to REALLY see what I was going to hit, and I sped up to the tracks. I got there in time to see covered hoppers rolling west. Still, I thought, in for a penny.... so I took off to try to intercept the engines about a mile WSW of town.
I arrived at the intersection, and looking down the tracks in the early morning fog, I didn't see headlights! AH HAH, I made it! Taking up one of my favorite spots, I waited. And waited. And then I saw that the darned (just in case there are kids around) thing had stopped, and was in an area with no road close. Again, I thought Oh well, I've come this far... so I shot down a side road, and finally got to the engines, about 200 yards off the road, with the sun behind them. I decided that even though this was NOT the pic I was hoping for, I wasn't going to leave empty handed, so I got out of the truck, and slammed my right shoulder- the torn rotator one- into the edge of the door. Now I knew I had to have something for all of thei pain and suffering. Raising the 35mm to my eye, I pushed the shutter button and..... nothing. The batteries were dead! ARRRRRRRGH! Spirit broken, I headeed home, where BTW, the camera magically came back to life, taking a great pic of the TV.
2 hours later, the officer working in Dunkirk called to tell me that there were 2 enginesin town painted like he had never seen. From his description, I knew I had to go again! Arriving in a very few minutes, I found 2 brand new-built 10-07- KCS ES44ACs, numbers 4719 ans 4720, just sitting around! In the new red, yellow and black scheme! Oh baby. After taking 10-12 pics, the officers who had called waved from the cab, and a few minutes later, I got my tour! Still smelled of fresh paint!
They are KCS de Mexico units, heading from Erie, Pa to wherever, so most of the controls were in Spanish, with English "subtitles". The difference between these and even a Dash-9 is remarkable. Pretty neat, eh guys?
I told the boys that called me and gave me the heads up, that this made up for the earlier debacle, and they got as big a kick out of it as I did.
Still not gonna give up looking for that tank train, though. Onward and upward!
Just checked back to page 394, which was where I last visited, and saw some mail directed towards me so now, 5 days late and about a thousand dollars short, we'll reply!
JimRCGMO- You asked if Amyjo had started drawing up plans for my switching layout, wellll, not yet, but come to think of it, that might be fun to see just what she could come up with. My guess is she would just throw a tangle of yarn on the floor and copy it!
bjdukert- You mentioned how rough the winters were up in Mi, I know of what you speak. When I was driving truck, I would pass throug the west sdie after a 3-4 day lake effect snow, and the plowed snow would be as high as my windows. Oh, yes, I understand what Garry was saying, and I can't blame anyone for wanting to get away from a lifetime of that. Digging a tunnel to get the mail seems like an adventure for about 2 minutes!
Last, but by no means least, Paul Beverung- The ships we visited were- LST393, USS Silversides, USCGC Maclain, and SS Milwaukee Clipper in Muskegon, all in great shape and fascinating to tour, then across the state to Port Huron to see the USCGC Bramble and Lightship Huron. The Coast Guard ships are treasures, IMHO, because it's easy to get people excited about a battleship or a carrier, with a glorious war record, but it takes a bit more to catch their attention with a small craft that simply did her duty, day in and day out. Bramble is a bouy tender now, but when she was built, she was a Cutter, and assisted in the sinking of a Japaneese sub off the Aleutians. She's just like the veterans of WWII, Korea and Viet Nam, if you didn't know her history, you would never guess it. She's a beauty.
OK, I think that catches me up, hope I didn't snub anyone. You guys add so many pages it can take awhile to catch up!
Keep on RRing!
Good morning ! from Indiana.

Good Morning All,
Rainy and dark but up to 46F already this morning. I see Bill and Luc have been in so a regular and a glazed donut please. Love that Tim Hortons coffee - imported you know!
Luc - Haven't heard from you for a while - how are things going? Any progress on Glotown?
Jerry - Glad to hear Sallie's home and doing better. A month is a long time. What did you finally find for passenger cars for your layout?
Found out my decoders are on backorder and have to wait a while for delivery. What to do now? Perhaps rob a diesel to fit a steam engine? Doesn't seem quite right. Still working on N buildings perhaps a pic or two tonight if time permits.
W..k is getting nuts already as I scramble to finish stuff up before leaving the last week this month. Have to make sure I leave enough stuff for the guys to finish whilst the CFO and I are gone. Doubly important as the CFO is the CFO here as well.
Well time to get back to it - gearboxes and steering racks on the agenda today while I wait for parts for the Cooper project. CUL, J.R.

Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, I'll have what JR's having - a cup of the TH Luc brought in from NS, and one of Bill T.'s donuts (the chocolate one, though).
- and guess who's got breakfast! Okay, Zoe, keep me a total and I'll be back later to settle up/do dishes...
At our MRR club last night, we got the old layout stripped down to the benchwork. Lots of cordless drill sounds (removing drywall screws) and vaccuuming sounds. Next, to assemble the benchwork in the new arrangement, connect them together, and start putting plywood and then roadbed down. [whew!]
Philnrunt (and Duke) - that's a lot of snow (more than I'd like to be stuck in! Indiana Phil, that's some chase after the trains, too. And maybe you should let AmyJo "spin you a yarn" about a layout design...
Well, the plumber was by my apartment yesterday, and I have a functional bathroom again (almost said w**king ). Unfortunately, I remembered *after* I had left for w**k that I wanted them to check a leak (into the sink so far) around the kitchen faucet by the hot water knob. Oh, well, I'll catch the landlord next month on that (after I send the next rent check in).
Inch, your day sounded pretty full yesterday, and that was just with J-Bird around (instead of the usual passle of kids you have on some days). Busy guy!
Flashwave, didn't realize you were among my neighboring eastern folk. Sounds like you and PC (and probably others) could've filled a rain barrel, perhaps.
Time for me to finish up my coffee and get going. See you all later!
Blessings,
Morning Guys,
Hope everyine had a good weekend. I took my father out for a round of golf for Vets day. Thats one of the good things about living in Ca. I was able to wear shorts and a t-shirt and we play until well after dark.
Ive been thinking about starting another layout. However the thought of a Hump yard is something Ive been wanting to add. I have to figure out how I can get it to work right with slamming the cars together. Like and automated way to slow down the cars as they free ride. Any thoughts. Or any idea of what Im talking about?? LOLOL
Thanks Guys,
Cary
Good morning everyone, I have not been in the Diner for a few days, been busy gathering the kindling wood from the deadfall in the woods to fill all our plastic tubs. The Jotul woodstove is all broken-in now, and man does it throw heat!!! And NO DAMPER in this stove, just an air feed to adjust. When your wife complains that it is too hot in a room that measures 27 X 27 with 11' peaked ceiling, and the temp outside is 26F, you know that you have a good stove. And this is the model 500,not their biggest stove either.
It has been 10F below normal here the first 12 days of November, and we have snow forcasted for Friday. We are ready, the wood is all in, the stove is ready, the snow shovels are in the garage, and the snowblower has been tuned up......bring it on baby!!
Gas is $2.91 per gallon here, had been to $2.99, but heating oil is $3.15 a gallon for #2 oil, I am real glad we locked in at $2.67 this july for the 2007/2008 season.
ED: Great photos, be careful on top of those cars, one bump or mis-step and it is a bad fall.Ahhh, now we can get some "fresh" OJ I see, send the tankers north Ed, Flu season is here and we need to boost our immune systems.
LISA: Glad to see you back in the Diner, are you going to the show this weekend at the Shriner's Hall?
JEFF: Another house fire in next town yesterday, mutual aid helped knock it down quickly, it seems that one of the younguns tried to get the fireplace going by using gasoline. He left a cup of gas on the coffee table which had two candles burning....you can guess what happened. No one hurt, not too much damage luckily the 12 year old sister knew just what to do.
FERGIE: MIL coming to the ranch I see, is she into trains? Ohhh, well, maybe you can get her interested in scenery?
MIKE and JIM: Colts ????????????????????
DUKE: I wouldn't worry about too much snow this winter, I think the upper midwest is going to get off easy.
DER JOHN: Hi-Speed internet on your doorsteps? That is great!!! Now I can send you .pps files!!!!
LAYOUT PROGRESS: Nothing new yet, almost ready to get back there, helping the wife set up the Christmas display of New England village complete with mountains and of course 75 feet of HO gauge all throughout the mountains and the villages. 6 - 4'X4' tables in an "L" formation. This takes 4 days to set up, so we set it up early November and leave it up until mid January, too much work for short time spans.
OK, back to work, see you guys later,

afternoon.
I am working on a 3.5ft x 5ft folding table for my layout at home and it will stand 2inches tall, high enough to get it up off my floor. (people cheer) Finally I'll have a table that will fit in my room and will be easy to transport!! I'm building it in Wood shop.
Afternoon Gang: Just a quick stop in to see what's going on. I had to come up the shop and get some more tools. I'm back to wirking on the feeders. I'll try again to weld them up and add a couple of angle irons for extra support. We looked at some new feeders at the feed store that ran $189 and $225 ea. I think we'll get one of each and give them a try.
Well I've got to get back at it before the boss gets back.
