Mornin all!
Man, the weekend just wasn't long enough!
Bob K., stop by once in a while! It does a body good!
Good morning. Coffee, please.
It rained all day yesterday, but today looks a little better.
Thanks for the advice, Dick. There is a section of fence that I am heading out to work on this morning. If I wait too long, I will be standing in water while I repair it. I usually dig down 3 feet for posts, but I hit water at 2 1/2 feet on one Thursday.
I will check in this afternoon.
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
What a beautiful Fallish day here in New England....62F, 47% RH with a DP of 41F, nice dry warm air ( at least in the sun ).
Got all the garden hoses put away for the season, and picked most of the butternut squash, some where not quite ripe yet, looks like we have about 2 bushels. The peppers and broccoli are still producing as well as the cherry tomatoes, so I didn't pull those plants up yet, as the long range weather looks like no cold weather for at least the next 10 days.
FERGIE: I have some butternut squash to send to NS via your MESS box car, send Digby scallops on return trip.
ED: One carload of Butternut squash is on it's way to Tuxpan.....one tanker on return trip with 18K gallons of OJ.
JEFF: Can you handle the dispatch and invoices please?
Well, lunch is over, time to get back outside and finish cutting the grass, maybe I'll get some time later in the Train Room, I have some photos to take.
See you later at lunch

Good afternoon, Zoe - I'll have a burger and a Dr. Pepper, please.
Thanks, Dick. Sounds like your garden has been doing well this summer.
Another good day here in the Heartland - a bit cool today, but warm enough. We don't have the clouds that we had yesterday, at least.
Sue, that's a low water table - only 2-1/2 feet? That's as bad as down in the Missouri Bootheel (but then again,it used to be swampland until they drained it many decades ago - I hear)!
I'll be working on my burger at the corner booth if anyone needs me.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Recently I was given a plaster casting of a stone wall section.
I want more so I made a latex rubber mold.
I have plaster in the mold at this time. I'll wait several hours before removing the casting.
Hi Zoe, thought I'd stop in for a root beer float on a nice warm afternoon.
Thanks.
Jeff, I'll be looking forward to seeing your progress pics on the wall. What kind of material(s) you use for making your mold?
Looked like the Diner was slipping down page one (not quite to page two... yet), so time for a bump.
I'll be in the window booth, checking out the afternoon local switching over there.
The casting on the left is the original. The one in the middle, I didn't wait long enough. The one at the top I waited longer, but still not long enough. With the bottom one, I think I got it just right.

Jim: Here's what I use:
I placed the original casting face-up in the bottom of a plastic box measuring 1 1/2 inches wide x 5 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches deep. I poured the latex rubber in to a depth of 1 1/4 inches. The latex contracts slightly as it sets. I purposely made the mold large, I wanted it to be stiff enough to hold it's shape while in use.

Those don't look too bad. Especially with a little color added, can't tell the difference.

This afternoon turned out beautiful. I got a lot done on the fence and it can rain now. Looks like the weather will be great at the end of the week. We are going to sell the '41 Plymouth. Ten callers are fighting over the car at this time. The video sure helped to sell it. We were probably too low on the price, but I get my wood shop now.
Jeff cant wait to see the finished product!

JEFF: It is in reference to my virtual RR shipment via Fergie's MESS RR, see my morning edit above earlier in day.

Not as well as you might think... (scale wise) You wanna drive a locomotive made from Concrete? :P

Don't forget Aircraft Carrier made of ice
PC did you try to get into the Pie Reserve?
Evening Gang: Not much doing today. I finished sprayinf the 7.5 track with weed killer. After that I watched Donovan's Reef with John Wayne and Lee Marvin. Trivia queation, What was Gillhooly's Christmas present?
Jeff: When you make a mold you can paint on severl coats of laytex and then put plaster soaked cloths on over that to make a hard shell. This saves laytex and still makes the mold keep it's shape.
I see that it's time for bed.
Good Night All

Chloe, I'll have a cup of decaf for now (and we'll let Inch and NScaler argue over who's covering it).
NScaler, I'm wondering the same thing about the Cardinals - they've been very on-again, off-again with their playing this year. Hope they get things together ASAP!
At model railroad club tonight, they got some additional lights up (little bit better grade than shop lights) for one side of the layout, and some of the cut joints evened up and mudded. Then we spent what seemed like a lot of time trying to figure how to add onto the layout (and whether to go for continous runs on the mainline (which would require stopping at one point on the layout and walking around to the back side, if we want walkaround control), or possibly remove a backdrop so the engineers could see the back part of the layout run. That'd involve putting the staging yard tracks up front, and trying to find something to sort of hide some of the back part of the mainline... They were still trying to figure it out when I left to come home (about 6 or so members). I'd prefer to have continuous mainline runs (even with the stops, which we said could be done as a crew change stop) and not lose the backdrop. But others seem to want something slightly different. We'll see what they want to come up with.
Work wasn't too busy today - had one client in walk-in (because the client couldn't wait until their Friday scheduled session), and an informational talk with a parent of a woman in an abusive (or at least over-controlling) marriage. Also had a call or two that were basically informational. Sent my co-worker out early to see a doctor (he'd been at an outside REO Speedwagon concert on Friday night, and had the sniffles (worse than mine has been so far).
Trying to figure out what I want/can afford to order from this month's Walthers sale flyer. Paul, I'm going to try to get some of those data only ore cars, so hopefully you aren't ordering your usual 100 at a time, right?
Jeff, that work on the stone wall with your mold looks pretty good. I'll have to get some of that WS rubber for some molds, myself. I'll check when Hobby Lobby has one of those 40 percent off coupons and get it then.
Bob K., it was good to see you in the Diner, and come back fairly soon, okay?
'bout time for me to head home and get ready for bed now. Prayers for those ailing or in need of comfort 'n' peace.
Glass of water will be fine, going to hit the hay shortly. Another very long day of Inlaw stuff, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. MIL will not be returning (YIPPY...shhhh) and FIL may well end up in a nice assisted living facility. One thing we have discovered is taking care of him is 24/7, and it's killing us. 3 1/2 hours sleep is not a long term option for me.
Train Room Update: There will be no new train room. However, there is still the original plan/option for a 8.5' x 45' space (still needs a floor). OR, there are windowed rooms with more typical dimensions in the old cabin (needs roof repair, sheet rock, etc). That second option could be a while because we haven't the money to do the repairs. So, some re-thinking to do. Will probably make a modular layout, so I can start working on one section. Could spend the rest of my life waiting or actually start on "something".
Hope everyone is doing well. Rob
