David Parks I am the terror that flaps in the night!
Good morning, Janie. I'll have a glass of Ed's OJ, cup of coffee and a couple of waffles, please, since JR's got the TOTP.
Thanks, JR!
We have some light rain this morning (no, it's not 10 percent less wet, PC! ), and it's a bit cooler. Only 71 F now - supposed to reach 89 today, so I guess that's better than toasting like yesterday, right?
Jerry, we had some area football games called off last night, too. Our local TV station has what they call "Heartland Football Friday", where they send photographers and reporters to cover most all the area games. I think there were two, maybe three games that got called - one north of us in Missouri, and the others across the river in Southern Illinois. Sounded like some of the nastier weather might have been your way. Take care! If you call the LHS ahead, he might help you figure how to get the power chair in the door (especially if you've been a good customer in the past, I'm sure).
Txrailnut (LilRob), back, and congrats on the new job! I remember you from earlier, but we have several newer Diners who haven't met you before. Good to hear from you, and hope you get some more progress on your layout.
Sue, I'd agree with Paul - I don't think we can have 'too many' freight cars - might just need to rotate some out via the interchange track to elsewhere for a while. That, or figure where else you could put a few sidings...
Rob, another box to stick in the back where your CFO won't find it, huh? Mum's the word!
Got to do the usual laundry run this a.m., and then I may get some time in on the MRR stuff (trying to finish that radio tower yet, maybe put together some more Accurail kits I have, etc.). I also have an order in and want to go pick that up (mostly Preiser figures); the order got delayed and I didn't get the Frenchman River awnings I wanted. Pooh...
Well, I'd better get going. Everyone take care and dodge the raindrops, if you're getting some rain in your area today. Prayers for healing, peace and comfort (and maybe a productive MRR'ing weekend).
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Cederstrand wrote:The good news (and you may NOT tell my wife about this) is I bought a new N scale loco. It's a Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0. Hearing such good reports on them, I figured it was time to try one out and see for myself.
I have three and I love them. You should be very pleased with it.
Oh, and mum's the word!
Afternoon, Janie - just a root beer float and a burger, please.
Thanks.

No coffee today, just a glass of water please...still feeling a little dizzy.
***Mark, nice shots of the bridge.
***Philip, are you sure 3 of those 2-8-0's is enough? There is always a way to justify more motive power, even if you have to keep it hidden from your better half. BTW, did you have to make any adjustments to yours or did they all run well right out of the box? Mine should arrive sometime next week.
***Jerry, if you are new to ebay, set yourself some limits before bidding and watch out for those scam emails. I'm sure you already know that, just a friendly reminder. Enjoy!
Rob
Janie, how about another root beer float - oh, wait! Let me have a concrete (with the chocolate bits in it, please). Anyone else want one of these, just check with our server.
Got my order in from the LHS this morning. The water tower (silver, the Walthers built-up) looks nice. I'll need to decide which of the towns on my (fictional) CAW RR I'm going to letter it for. The Preiser critters are nice (if tiny - may need my magnifying glass to see about placing them). I got the birds set, plus the cats and dogs. I'll put a hawk on the top of one of the utility poles outside of town, watching for a stray rabbit (Hmm, wonder if Preiser or someone makes those, too?). I'll also put a lazy ol' hound sitting by the freight depot, or maybe outside one of the stores. I also got the USA police set, so don't be speeding through my RR's towns, mind ya!

And Rob, do you have your bib ready, so you don't drool all over the 2-8-0 once it arrives? You guys have my mouth watering - I've been checking websites for Mikados, Pacifics... Wanting something bigger than my 'mere' Mogul 2-6-0 (of course, that'll mean I'll want to add a section to my layout for the turntable I need to assemble to show off the steamers...).
that, Jerry - especially watch out for the PayPal spoofs (that aren't really from them...). And check around for a good 'snipe' program, too - which can help you not overspend, but still give you a shot at winning some auctions here and there (without breaking the budget).
Jeff, nice photo of that SW9/1200 - one of my favorite diesel switchers. Keep 'em coming!
Well, after I finish the rest of this concrete, I need to go by the grocery store and pick up some bottles of soda. The singles group from church is watching movie(s?) tonight, and we're supposed to bring sodas.
Anyone heard from Fergie lately? I might have missed it, but didn't think he's been in here in a bit of a while. Prayers in order for him and Garry, and for Sallie to keep improving, too.
Good Afternoon Coffee Clubbers
Power was out again today (from about 0930 until 1730). I'm led to believe thatthey were making repairs somewhere in the area. But the way they have (or don't have) the local distribution system sectioned, they had to take down a rather large area of homes in order to do the work. No warning or notice, just at about 0930 bam! Down she went.
Obviously I missed the internet connection. But what was worse was no power for a/c or even fans. And it was a mite toasty today. Ah yes, but I suppose that's a minor inconvenience compared to what some have to bear. But being a 60 year old curmudgeon, I'm allowed at least one good gripe a day.

I love my Spectrum 2-8-0. It's a great machine. Looks great and pulls equally well. I did have to return mine to Bachmann to get it regauged. It was too narrow, and had a lot of problems going through switches. Came back quickly and works well.

Unless I got it wrong, his father, Art, passed away early in the week. Other than posting a quick note here regarding that, I suspect he's been occupied.
I'd give you guys a weather report, but I bet you all realize that it's HOT down here. Was like that last week, will be like that next week.
I better run before they cut the power again.
Just one last thing, "How 'bout them Boston Red Sox!!!"

Oh that's not even close to the extent of my motive power, but it wouldn't kill me to have more ya know! I'm all steam in N scale. I've got a decent sized layout to fill, so there is a fairily healthy roster for it. That's just all I have of that loco. And when I got them, 2 of the 3 were slightly out of guage. The other was fine. It wasn't hard to fix at all. An NMRA guage and a little patience and you're good! And when you get it, they run great out of the box, but I have a large test loop and I ran each on them for 2hrs at medium speed forward and 2hrs medium speed backwards and they settled right in and are a real honey to run now. They just get better the more you use them.
Hello everyone. We're still driving back and forth to a hospital 45 miles away where Shelley's sister Janet remains on a ventelator in ICU. Thanks for the kind thoughts and prayers.

***Philip, didn't mean to imply your only having 3 locos, simply that there might be room for an additional 2-8-0 in your roster. Is it even possible to have a loco roster of only 3 and still have fun?
Keep thinking of selling off some additional older locos, so I can add a few more from my short wish list. So far, comparing more recent aquisitions to those I've let go, I have no regrets. I keep thinking how much nicer the detailing is on the locos being produced now, compared to most of my vintage stuff. Oh what to do, what to do??? Has anyone else had this dilemma?
Transfered lots of caught rain water to pasture troughs this evening. Thunderstorms boomed on both sides of our valley for several hours, but no rain. Perhaps tomorrow.
Sending healing thoughts to those in need.
Looks like Jeffrey is buying. He has definately been the most active lately.
Friday, Larry and I got to ride on a 1916 Baldwin 2-8-2 while they dropped the passenger cars.
We showed up as they just finished a special trip.
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Evening Gang: I just got in from the track. I left John there and he was getting ready to make his last run. All in all it was a good day except that an axle on one of my gondolas froke as we were leaving the yard. I dropped the car on one of the yard tracks and John took the train with Mary Ann and his wife on for the run. I took the truck off and have it in my pick-up along with a flat car that has a loose wheel. Both problems are fairly easy to fix.
It's late so I'd better say, Good Night All

I'll have to think a minute on that one, Rob, but my first inclination would be no. After all, you need at least one switcher, plus a freight engine for the local, another for the main (make that two, westbound and eastbound), another for passenger service, and...

Rob, usually my dilemma has been that I don't have enough available for my short list. Good that you got some rain in your area (especially for your thirsty horses).
RT, good to see you around again. How's the job hunting progressing? Hopefully, improving.
More excellent photos, Jeff - I like that one of the truck dock.
Sue, nice pic of the 2-8-2, and I bet it was fun to catch a ride on it, too!
Ed, I can imagine how you feel about being without power (and a/c). Does your place get much in the way of breezes, at least? Don't think it would be tolerable if you didn't and the a/c was out.
Well, I'd best get myself going. This afternoon, I'm supposed to help a woman from one church singles small group (and her 14 year old daughter) get some problems with Yahoo IM and MSN IM clients (not connecting) w..ked out.
Blessings on your Sunday endeavors,

Gottcha!
Is it even possible to have a loco roster of only 3 and still have fun?
The original version of the Autumns Ridge Railway & Navigation Co. layout had only an 0-4-0 to switch a small yard and an ancient 4-4-0 to haul tonnage with. It kept me busy for a few years.
Only all of the model railroaders that hang out here. The other folks, not so much!
Prayers for Fergie's family, Gerry's family, and all those others in need of the hand of God in their lives!
Here's a shot that turned out better than I expected.
in a ATSF mug, please & thank you!
***Sue, you and Larry lucked out. Any more photos to share?
***Paul, are such problems as you mentioned common? It's a good thing you can fix them. Curious, what is the weight range of one of your cars?
***Jeffrey, nice lighting on that last photo. Headlight on adds a lot to the effect. As with all you recent photos, Nice!
Have a good day all! Rob
Afternoon folks!
Jeff your layout looks neat, don't listen to the naysayers!
I'll just grab a snack and then move along. Looks nice in here!

Graffiti anyone?
Morning!
Nice and cool here. Just awaiting tommorow to order a said big boy and challenger.
I'm going for Black/Graphite #3958 on the challenger, and Black/graphite #4017 big boy.
Cederstrand: It is possible... I have right now a 2-8-0, 4-8-2, 4-8-4, and E9. The 4-8-2 isn't working, and the 4-8-4 just has issues. I also have 3 others... but I never run them becuase there complete and total junkers.
Basically It's a two train party over here.
