Hi everyone. Great afternoon here, especially because my fever is history. Any heat on my forehead will only be an overheat from thinking Big Smile [:D]. My trains are unreachable because there is an assortment of stuff on my desk that needs shoving off.

Grayson: How did you get Top of the page Honors THREE times in a row? Keep it up and you could go for the record.

Jim: That thing with the dogs was FUNNY! I actually have a lightbulb joke that may be a little inappropriate, but oh well...

Mark: Hopefully the Bigboy will feel welcome on your layout. Make sure not to torture it with 15" radius (shudders).

I just ate so I will have (you guessed it) MORE ROLO!!! WOOOOOOOOOO...

...On Grayson's tab...

I think the record is five, but I wouldn't have a clue how I know that! Wink [;)]

The bike ride was a blast.

The tunnel was at the beginning.  Instead of going over the pass the rails went through the pass.

The west side has two tunnel entrances.  I am not sure of the story, but I think that I may research it.

Here is an artifact.

I was interested in the avalanche shed because we may put one on our layout. Yes, I rode through it while everyone else went around.Laugh [(-D]

Most of the trestles were covered with rock.  One of them had the remnants of a boxcar at the bottom.

My old quad map had Chicago, St. Paul, Milwaukee, and Pacific, as the rail line.  Every mile marker had the miles to Chicago.Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]

I'll try to pass that one up, maybe what I have done so far is enough.

Zoe, a glass of sweet tea and country fried chicken, please.

Dang, again? I seriously thought I only counted 19........ Grumpy [|(] Well, I better count good next time. Zoe, put everybody else's bill on me. I might not even have enough money, might have to get a loan!!!

Hello everyone.

I enjoy reading your interesting stuff.  I'm thinking there's a lot of non-MRR stuff going on out there. Come on guys. Priorities are priorities. It's too hot to be outside so get to work on those layouts! (Kidding of course)

Inch ... thanks for thoughts on things to do in IL.  Do you know if Monticello museum is open on weekdays? It would be neat to at least see a 4-8-0. I looked on IL map east of Effingham and did not see much. Must be nice then because that would mean not too many people. I really don't care much for Chicago area of IL anymore.  Did you say you were headed somewhere not far from JimCG?

Grayson... I was at the Savana RR muesum a few years ago.  Anything new there?

I really appreciate the tunnel pix, Sue. NEAT!

JimCG ..... watch out for inch.  He may eat all that froazen custard if he shows up there.  How's the club layout move now?

Dick.. your info on the new eye check up procedure was of interest. Thanks.

Mark...good luck with the Big Boy.  I suppose the layout is being prapared now for it.

Scott ...... sounds like you're on the right track. (Am I original or what!)

Speaking of layouts, I'd better get back to the layout here. BTW, I'll be leaving for Nashville tomorrow afternoon. I have routine heart tests Monday at Vanderbilt U. Hosp.. I normally stay with relatives the night before such tests. I don't expect any new problems.  The treatments, etc. allow normal life, and I am thankful for that. I've had three heart surgeries there with the first in 2002. I would not look forward to the next one.

Happy Model Railroading, everybody

Garry, I havnt been there in probably 3 years. I hardly remeber anything Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Oh, yeah, now that I remeber, they restored a old 0-4-0 steam engine a few months ago. Originally build in the 19 teens, it used to be part of the Savannah Railroad. They are also restroring the old trolly to run on River Street again, a $50,000 project. Thats pretty much all I know thats changed.

Just a decaf coffee please.

***Sue, what a neat trip. Enjoyed the photos and hope you can find out about the double tunnel history. Your modeling that avalanche shelter is a great idea.

Well, got stung by a hornet this evening while doing water rounds. I am a bit allergic so (after killing the little basta*d), took Benadryl, Motrin, packed the sting with baking soda, then ice. Hand doesn't hurt, just a bit warm with rather stiff fingers from the swelling. Going to go lay back down for awhile and watch TV with the wife while I ice it some more.

Catch y'all tomorrow. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Evening Gang:

Grayson: You are about to give PC a run for his money. You might as well go for it. Oh yea, watch out for Vinney. He's the girls collector and not to be fooled with.

Sue: Not to be a picker of nits, but it's the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacfic. Of course if you don't want to write all that you can use, The Milwaukee Road. Having been born and raised in Milwaukee I kind of spotted that right off. Right now I'm deep into re-reading my books onthe Milwaukee Road. Since Walthers anounced they are bring out the Twin Cities Hiawatha I've been back to maybe doing Milwaukee's depot in downtown Milwaukee Wisc.

Not much going on except that the 52 horsepower tractor busted it's fan belt. Since it also needs an engine overhaul and a radiator and a clutch I'm looking at a bunch of money. When it rains it pours I guess.

Rob I'm also alleergic to insectec stings. I got hit last month and ended up going to the ER. I took a couple of Benedryl before I went and got a shot there. I felt all right later with no after effects. We've got to be watchful. My Mary Ann is like your wife. She'll do allmost anything I will with the tractors. She dosen't run my loader though. Too many levers.

Well I guess I'll head for bed.

Good Night All

Paul,  Thanks for the correction.  I just copied Chicago, St. Paul, Milwaukee, and Pacific, off the USGS quad map dated 1960.  I know in our area we had the Milwaukee Road, but I am not a history buff.

Evening, Chloe - I'll have one of those root beer floats, please.

 JeremyB wrote:

Haven't been in here for a while, been busy all summer with RC Trucks. Its been quite warm here in Southern Ontario this past week but today its alot cooler out and can finally trun off the A/C and open the windows :)

Oh, sure Jeremy, rub it in! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Boy, could we use some of your weather down on this side of the jetstream... Well, at least somebody is staying cool without running up a big electric bill. Wink [;)] Good to hear from you again.

Sue, that tunnel thing was kind of curious - wonder if they hit some really bad rock with the first try from the 2-opening end, and had to re-dig/drill/blast on a slightly different path? Dunno.Confused [%-)]

Rob, careful with those wasps - they can be nasty, even for those of us who aren't allergic (let alone for guys like you and Paul). Call in the exterminator and let them get rid of the nest or wherever that wasp came from.

Garry, the club layout's probably gonna need at least another meeting or two of cutting sections. Last Monday, we all decided that the landlord has to get the new location done first, so we have room to move all the stuff that's sitting around right now. We're running out of space to put things. If we'd taken down the cabinets, there wouldn't have been enough floor space to set them down! So getting closer, but not there yet. I figure we'll (hopefully) be moving before Labor Day weekend. Oh, as for where Inch is going is the Meramec Park, on/around the Meramec River, and not far from Sullivan, MO. Excellent for tubing or canoeing or just floating on a hot day Cool [8D](like today...) Not far off of the old Route 66 (now I-44). But a goodly bit of a ways from me, over on the Mississippi River in Cape Girardeau.

Grayson, washing the dishes might just be preferable to taking out a loan from Chloe and Zoe's cousin Vinny and not keeping up on the payments...Shock [:O] If I recall correctly from a time or two in the past when I hit the TOP, the apron is on the left as you go into the kitchen, hanging on a nail. Best wishes on that!

Inch, Jerry, PC and everybody east of me - better get ready for more of this hot weather -

I just checked our extended weather forecast, and through next Wednesday or Thursday, it's supposed to be upper 90's (F - only a mere 37 C). So lay in a good supply of lemonade, water and lots of shade and/or A/C to hold you over through this spell...

Think I'll have a big tall glass of water myself, and then head for home. See everyone tomorrow sometime. I'm hoping to get the dining room table cleared off (yes, again...) and solder those leads on the wires to get a little closer to wiring my layout. That, and see about assembling those track bumpers that I didn't get to today. Oops [oops]

Chloe, better order in more fixin's for lemonade and ice cream for the root beer floats - you'll be selling a bunch of 'em the next week, I expect. Everybody stay cool tonight and do your best on staying cool tomorrow. Prayers for those in need of healing (including Rob's hand) and comfort, and keep those in Minnesota in your prayers, if you would.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

***Paul, sorry to hear about your tractor troubles. If it only needs a cheap part, then the time it will take to replace it often more than makes up for it, and visa versa....or so it seems. BTW, if a sting sends you to the ER, you might want to carry an epipen or have one near, just incase. My alergy isn't quite that bad yet. We usually have epinephrine & solumedrol on the farm for emergencies.

***Jim, I would never call an exterminator, as I thoroughly enjoy the midnight hornet/wasp/yellowjacket hunts with cans of killer foaming spray. A fcouple weeks ago I picked up a grease rag (daytime) that had been laying on the root rake only to watch a brown cloud of hornets fly out. Must have jumped backwards ten feet, sore back and all. Got all those little beasties that night by flashlight. Evil [}:)]

Tongiht the atmospheric conditions are ideal for hearing the distant train passing through Fairmount. From the rumble, the last train must have had a good number of locos and full cars. Only wish the tracks were closer.

Well, going to go try falling asleep again.  Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Morning, farmers special n coffee Janie

Another hot one here and the forecast for next week, even hotter, highs in the mid 90's, heat index, 100 plus and no wind to speak of. We did get a light rain and some lighting last evening, just before the demo-derby at the fair started that last all evening. But, the show went on and it was a good turn out ok and the rain had cooled it off a bunch. Today is the open horse show and then it's done for another year.

DICK, haven't had one of those new eye test yet, but it sounds way better than the old one.

JEREMY,, good to hear from you again, doing anything else besides RC trucks.

GRAYSON, I think the record is 6 in a row, held by FLIP with PC in 2'nd. PC does proudly hold the record for most times in a month at 17 or 18 [and he washed a lot of dishes, after he maxed out the plastic].

SUE,,, looks like you folks had a nice ride, thanks for the pics.

GARRY,, don't think they run during the week, but I'm sure they'd let you in to wonder around. Here's the contact info [877] 762-9011 and [217] 762-9011, http://www.mrym.org/

It's not over crowded through here; our largest industry is farming for this area [farming n bunch of people don't mix well]. I've tried city life a few times, it's not for me, crowds make nervous.

Our fishing trip goes through St. LOU and Jim way south of there, so his custard safe. Hope all your test go well at the docs.

Need ta get on some quiet chores, I'm letting Mother sleep in, it's the most sleep she's had all week and don't need to be at the fair grounds till 10 or so. Hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe

Hand is still swollen & warm from that darn wasp. Took another benadryl and will start back icing it today. Insects are amazing little creatures. Good Afternoon All

Well it's been a tad long since I last sat down here but I had to get back to sea to put my feet up and rest. Not a month at home I wish to repeat as dad landed back in the hospital and I never got the retaining wall project completely finished. Lisa and I finally got away for an over nigthter and that was it for her 2 week vacation. Pretty sad when you got to back to work for a break.

Anyway I don't know if any of you saw the photo of the 2-10-2 additions I posted on the main site but here they are. They didn't seem to get mu8ch of a response from the GP or PG so I don't know if I've upset everyone or if the crowd is sleeping these days?

Scott: Congrats on the new job! you done good and I'm sure if you keep at it you'll continue to do excellent.

Phil: Love the Avatar!

Dick: keep an eye out for me as I'm out by Sable and on the main Hurricane Tracking Route. Though I haven't seen too much developing yet I figure it's just a matter of time. I'm sitting in the Big Chair this trip as the Regular "Old Man" is on leave.

Well not much else on the go. I bought another Erie shovel so I'd better sit down and start piecing it together. Brought the right glue this time!!

Later All

Grayson, now you can afford to eat again!  Someone else is footing the bill!

Fergie, thanks!  I like it pretty well too.  I had actually thought of asking if I could modify yours and use it, I like it that much.  I figured it might cause confusion though, and besides, this one is closer to my prototype.
