Good Evening All,

Just hiding out here til the flames die down - one shouldn't try to be humourous with model railroaders I suspect.

Steve - welcome back and glad you stopped in. When will we see some pics of the new direction? Did you decide to stay put or are you still planning on bolting to Oz or settling in with the Kiwis' ?

Hoople if you are confused as to time zones that means every time is meal time, no? And I ditto your observation on shark week. I've been watching on and off all week and still no Baldwins -though Bachman is bringing some out soon.

To clear up the confusion, I have an HO layout at home !2' x 12' mopre or less and model the New Haven roughly freelancing the Danbury/ Norwalk line. At the museum (that would be the Danbury Railway Museum), I help with the model railroad displays which include N, HO, and O gage displays.

Recently I have been concentrating my efforts on getting the N gage sorted out and running reliably. That display is the Danbury railyard roughly circa 1950 with steam and diesel equipment. The display is older and not well braced though it is about 10' x 16'. The track is older Atlas nickel silver track and the turnouts seem problematic so we've soldered most of the points in place. Some of the base has moved over the years so that can be a problem as well as some of the more remote sections pulling up and needing to be reglued. Currently we use a DL-109 and an RS-3 for moving power whilst we sort through about 30 other units (about 10 of them New Haven) to see if we can fix them to run well again. One of the challanges is the sheer number of hours the units log as they are connected to push to run switches and the display is very popular with the younger set. They may also be jostling the display and causing some of our derailments, but bracing the table more will be difficult without major rework.

(And yes the HO display is New Haven based and we're working on subverting the O gage next). In fact the only O gage equipment I own is a Lionel New Haven ABA set.Well, back to painting the new  buildings. Toodles,   J.R.Big Smile [:D]

Please & just go ahead and hook it up IV style...very tired this evening. Would love to have some chocolate chip or sugar cookies if there are any left.

Ended up an errand day including required inlaw stuff, so never got to make shoes for Tinytoons OR finish the grinding on the Trix frame. Tomorrow, I AM staying home and expect to catch up on everything and have a photo to share of the Camelback project.

Off Topic: On a sad note, I just burried Hobo this evening. He was our oldest dog, one of two that came with the farm 10 years ago. We were his third owners and guess he was around 14 years old. Always sad to lose an old companion. Burried him in front of the old workshop out back. Now he can join Sheila, his life-long 3-legged companion we lost a couple years ago.Sad [:(]

Our thoughts go out to all involved in that bridge collapse along the Mississippi.

Evening Gang: That bridge collapse in Miniapoliss is something else. The steel seems to have given way like wet noodles. Our best wishes go out to those involved.

I finally finished mowing the pasture. I still have to go back and hit the areas around the Mesquite and the corners. Next is cutting the Mesquite and hauling it away. We use Mesquite down here for grilling all the time. It gives the meat a great taste. The Mesquite that is used is from large tree like bushes. I've seen funiture made out of Mesquite wood also and at least one gun stock. If anyone wants to come down they can have all they can cut and haul off. Please!

Well I'm still trying to avoid the new Hiawatha set that Walthers came out with. I'd like to do a model of the depot and train shed but where and how to find the time. I've hauled out most of my books on the Milwaukee Road. I must be nuts. Oh yea I'm a model railroader.

They just showed more film on that bridge collapse. One of the spans went down on the railroad tracks and some covered hoppers. I think that those tracks used to be Milw Rd but now are CN.

Well I guess I'll head for a both and chow down on one of those steaks.

Rob, sorry to hear about Hobo.

Paul, I hadn't heard about the bridge, so when you mentioned it I googled it.  WOW!  Theres a lot of hurting people tonight in Minneapolis!  Big prayers for all of them!

Now, since Steve is buying, it's time for some dinner!

Good evening ladies and gents. Still and warm, with a waning moon. The emergency fix for our daughter’s balcony deck post went way better than I expected, including the re-laying of 15 (2ftx3ft) paving stones. Neighbourly help is great! Heard from TrolleyRob this evening. His VIA from Montreal was greatly delayed, and that has put all his holiday timetable for Nova Scotia out the window, or at least closed the window on our getting together with Luc and Gloria next Monday.Disapprove [V]

Paul:

Der that's a nice model of the Mesquito. Did you do it?
…Nope, that’s from a Google search (Ed trained me well!) 1/48th isn’t my scale, even as a lad. I got into enough trouble with Micro-Models™, and remember getting caught doing a balsa Spitfire in something approaching what would now be Z scale when I was supposed to be doing math or some such. That “Mesquito” is a Mosquito BTW. Maybe you’re too bothered by the tire damage caused by your Mesquite bushes! (Or maye it’s those BBQ fumes?)LOLLaugh [(-D]
When I changed colors at work I'd just run some thinner or cleaner through the brush and switch bottles or pour the next color in the cup. I never had a problem. I did clean out the brush at the end of a session or when going on break. I also have a bunch of brushes so I could keep different colors and tip sizes at hand. Now of course I've got them all for modeling. He He
…I’m thinking that the acrylics I use would clog up a bit too much to be sure of getting a complete change of colour just running water through between colours. No biggie.

JR: That’s weird about the de-rails. The museum doesn’t demand a session log by the operatorsQuestion [?]

Der - so the reverse loop on remote works ok? Mine are automated because I could never remember to throw the switches properly on the old layout. That's the other reason I,m considering using stationary decoders at least on the mainlines.
…Go for it, it works a treat. So much so that if Peco did a slip switch, I’d change the two hand throws and always run so as to slip, then I wouldn’t have to “be there” for those two hand throws.

Scott, given the traffic difficulties, I’d say it’s a deal breaker. Let’s hope Thursday’s interview with NS is more flexible. That employment record is important, and yours is mighty fine up to now.Thumbs Up [tup]

I think I will stop by for a root beer float before heading to bed.

I am trying to get packed for a 21 mile bike ride on Friday.  It is a rails to trails thing.  All down hill.  There is a 2 mile tunnel.  I wish that I had a tiny digital camera.  My only small one is 35mm that I used to take climbing.  I will try to get some photos of the tunnel.

Boy has everyone been busy.  I will try to stop in tomorrow.

Good Morning All,

A regular and one of Bills' donuts please Zoe.  63F, partly cloudy and really humid today as we scramble to finish the work for Lime Rock Park.

Not much to say  this morning - my prayers for those folks in Minnesota who have lost loved ones in the bridge collapse. What a horrific event. We've had two major bridge problems here in recent memory, the Mianus River bridge collapse on I-95 which thank God happened in the middle of the night when there was minimal traffic on the road but still killed several people, and the fire and collapse in Bridgeport also on 95 when a car merged into a tanker truck and set it on fire weakening the bridge until it came down. Both events caused major disruption for years, but the deal in Minnesota is going to be much more extensive. Apparantly the collapse was as bad as it was because of the need to have a single span over the Mississippi to avoid navigation problems for the barges using the river. The tracks that were hit will also be down for a while but thankfully the bridge didn't come down on a flammable unit train.

Well, gotta run and  get to w..k. Hope you all have a goodun'.  CUL,J.R.

GMTR - that was a terrible hwy/ bridge collapse in Minnesota - it was on our local news tonight.  Prayers for all of those that this event touches.

Der - good to see you in here also, thanks for the steady emails.  The last few weeks have been challenging, but I'm getting back into the TRAINing, yardwork, and occasionally even for a dip in our pool (weather has been nice).

speaking of weather - has anybody heard from sNOAH lately ? I haven't seen him in the coffee shop diner

Garry - thanks for the pm's, good to hear from a Michiginian (Michigandor) and I will look for some Western Michigan railcars. thanks

CPR - I saw a new menu item in the diner... a Rolo coffee.  I've got you covered, pull up a seat.

I see that the pool table has finally been re-assembled in Elliott's (new) Diner... back corner by the dart board.  Anyone up for a game of billiards ? (I warn you, I imagine that I am very good of expert skill yet not afraid to hustle)

Tomorrow I will do some touch-up painting on the John Deere 160 lawn tractor (they have a lawnmower rodeo for kids at the fall fair in Sept)- my daughter has offered to help, actually she has assumed ownership of the thing since I brought it home last week.

Greetings to the gang of regulars that I haven't chatted with for awhile (you know who you are).  Many of you apparently have way too much time on your hands - those are amazing menu items that you locate and order - and they all look like fresh meals too.  My brunch budget cries OATMEAL though - with some brown sugar.  Coffee to go.

cheers, krump

Morning all!

Grayson!  Come on in and sit down, have something to eat.  There's our virtual waitress', Chloe and Zoe, who'll get whatever you like.  Oh, and let me give you a couple of tips.  First, if you hit the top of the page, you're buying for everyone on that page, and the way some of these folks eat, that can mean only one thing!    Also, see that guy over in the back corner booth?  That's Fergie.  Don't go anywhere near his mouth!  It's like a black hole; it just sucks everything in!  You should see him rip through a stack of pies!  Wink [;)]

Hey Krump, you're on for that billiards game!  I can imagine I'm better then you!  Does that mean I win?

Sue!  20+ miles!?!  Aren't you the "go getter"?

Well, I best shove off for work.  Later all!

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Grayson.

I had better get moving, I have lots of errands to do this morning.  I volunteered to work a couple of hours after the birthday party lunch for one of the dentists that I work for.  That leaves this morning to prepare for tomorrow.  Someone decided that we had a 7:00 start time and I am 30 minutes from the meeting place.

Later,  Sue

Just a quick good morning, all! Zoe, since Jeff's got the TOP honors today, I'll have one of these to go, please,

and a quick cup of the TH.

I have neglected to bring the cinnamon rolls for a while, so decided today was the day. As usual, the back row's the non-sugar ones for those of you wanting that.

Krump, Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back - a dip in the pool will probably be good today.Cool [8D] Yesterday when I was out in the car, a bank thermometer read 95 (F).Shock [:O] Good to see you're getting back to a bit of MRR'ing.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the Diner, Grayson! Have a cup of your favorite on me (since Jeff's covering the eats).

Steve, Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back also! As others mentioned, it's been good to see the steam emails you've sent. Are you still looking toward a move 'Down Under', or have you put that on the shelf for now?

...and what about the 'old irregulars' such as myself? Evil [}:)]Wink [;)] (Tee hee)

PC, you and Krump had better watch out on that game of pool if Vinnie wants to play. Remember, he's here a lot, so he gets lots of time to practice up on this table! (Besides, you don't want him mad if he loses...) Oh, by the way, that was an excellent Surf n Turf platter you set out, PC. Thumbs Up [tup]

Well, I'd better get going. Got to get ready for the 'w' thing again today.

Blessings and prayers for those in need, (including those Der mentioned and others),

Jim in Cape Girardeau

I'm a pretty good size boy.....and there's a reason for that!  I like food and I know how to eat!

Ryan, I'm liking the new logo too.  I'll probably change when I get mine done for the ARR&NavCo, but for the mean time, it's pretty cool.

Rob, always remember what a very, very wise person once said: "So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today."  Let your mind relax buddy.  You're under a lot of stress right now, whether you realize it or not.  Hobo's passing, while it was his time, may have gotten you more worked up then you realize.  Take some time today to do something that relaxes you.  Go for a swim, or read, or whatever.  Just wind down a little, OK?

A cinnamon roll from JimCG would be super.  Thanks Jim.  I'll resume the diet tomorrow unless somebody shows up with some carmel pecan rolls.

Welcome Grayson. !!!!

I see Sue's 20 mile bike ride is on rail to trails.  By chance is that an abandomed Milwaukee Road line? Hope tunnel photos are good.

Krump......... billiards, eh? Terrific!

Phillip's new logo is OUTSTANDING!

Rob......... sorry about Hobo.  Our recent loss was Skeekie the cat.  She used to sit with me each moring as i ate my oatmeal. Doesn't seem right anymore.

Anybody hear from BobK or Michael?  i've been thinking of them.  Grief can be terrible.

Der: I've seen it before. I saw it when it aired, it was real cool. Not as good as some of the others.

Cederstrand: Sorry to hear about Hobo, its not a fun thing losing a pet.

It is a beautiful sunny morning today. The sun is shining, my brain is overheating, and my throat hurts ALOT. I am hoping to be better soon so I can go to Playland during the weekend. Hopefully I don't toss my breakfast/lunch/dinner (pick one) on the roller coasters.

Pcarrell: Aparently the number of hot dogs was 53. I wonder if that guy finished them off...?

Krump: Switch that coffee to a ROLO icecream and I'll take it, but put it on Jeff's tab.

Sue: 20 MILE BIKE RIDE!?!? Shortest distance to a train show for me is a 10 minute walk/5 minute run!

got alot of catching up to do due (lol) to camp (10 day absence) so I gotta go.
