Good mmorning All!

It's been 18 years for me an Lisa as of today. The secret knowing when to (or when not to)  disapear  to the basement, though I don't always get it right.

Musquodoboit 501 is finally on the tracks but suffering from a couple of minor hiccups. 502 is still sidelined due to a faulty decoder. As 501 has a medium weight Tsunami I'd rather put in another Medium in 502 as opposed to a "heavy". Any thoughts?

DerJohn: hopefully as you are on lower ground than I your head is still above water!?! George had mostly HO but one or two N scale building kits.

Yes the rains have come... and stayed. We were suppose to head to the Annapolis Valley today but it's raining and who needs that!  Was hoping to get to Blomidon Nursery but I'm not driving in this nonesense especially on the 101.

Cape Jim: If your afraid of getting wet forget it as we have plenty of the wet stuff to pass around. I think we've had 60-80mm in the past 24hrs. They had a heavy rainfall warning issued last night.

Well I have things I must do. As always... Later

der,

I used the Atlas code 55 on the last layout and was quite happy with it.  It is good stuff.  Thing is, I was trying to get a little more visual seperation between the mainline and the shortline, but I'm really not into redesigning the whole thing.  If I went that far I might as well handspike!

So was a great day hanging out with my daughter (my own personal photographer for the day).

I'm hoping to have pics of the first test run of the Old Colony Greenbush as soon as my daugther can download them from her D70. These runs are supposed to continue throughout the rest of the month. Today we chased the train all along the route and stopped for the pics at grade crossings. The T sent an F40 and 5 cars. I wish they could have at least washed the beast for the first run. Looks like they just grabbed anything that came in from last nights commute.

Later in the afternoon, we stopped by the club and took about 50-60 shots of the layout. Some were for showing the progression of benchwork, trackwork, and scenery. Others are from just play- running trains. About 6 members were there and decided to run. Hope they are good.

It's been a quiet weekend, not like the madness of last. Actually some real train/ modeling related stuff.

Good evening folks:  We had another fire hall lobster dinner this evening.Dinner [dinner]  So now a suitable dessert…

The trees I fetched from storage have begun a new life on the layout.  Since they were “designed” for Horribly Oversized, many are too big, as is, for Normal scale.  However, that isn’t a loss, because in most cases they can be picked apart from the base, and the lower branches used as small trees in their own right.  The main trunk then is right sized for the sort of forest I’m after.  I started with the access hatch that’s over the upper level tunnel mouth. I need to hide the join, and it looks as if it’s going to work.  WS  FC58 Medium Green Foliage Clusters put on the ground after a sprinkle of fine log-basket detritus, and WS T45 Fine Grass.  Then to trees and bushes.

These trees are at least 10-15 years old.  Some, I’m pretty sure came from my Campbell River layout dismantled in 1988.

Sue:

Fishing line is probably too heavy for N scale isn't it?
…That’s my thought, as well as being somewhat hard to paint, I would imagine.  I think I’m going to put off the installation until I’ve planted an orchard and forested a hillside at the back of that part of the layout.  It’s hard to reach, and the fence could be in the way!

Dick:

Good weekend to get caught up with inside stuff, the coastal storm will spoil the outside activities this weekend all the way up to Nova Scotia.
…How true that is! Still, it held off today until about dark, so that didn’t spoil the kid’s day at the Visitor Information Centre (Same site as the Museum).  Tomorrow, there’s an “Olde English Tea and sing-along” planned for the afternoon.  We are hoping for similar gracious behaviour from the weather, but may not get it from the sound of the forecast.

Jeff:  Since you have set yourself up to be bugged by tech questions, where would one go looking for drivers to run a Sony Micro Vault on Windows 98?

Garry:

Well, I hope you all already have your Chinese-made models. If not, you'd better hurry. China will allow its currancy to rise following preasure from Washington. That means prices for Chinese imports should rise.
…I wouldn’t panic just yet.  The Chinese have shown themselves to be very like treacle in their increases in the past, and usually let the Yuan rise just enough to make it look as if they are doing something.  Don’t forget this is a communist government with no particular love of our free market system, and holding nearly a Trillion $ (yes , trillion with a t) of US debt.
Fergie  ...  A 13 km bike ride!  Good for you!
…the bonus is, he gets to do it on old RR right of way!

CapeJim: Looks like you may have a quieter niegbourhood for a while at least!

Chuck and Kathy:  That’s great news about you both.Angel [angel] When I first read

While we were gone to Portland for my appointments the kids next door cleaned out the mrr
I thought you had been robbed!  Glad it was quite different from that!

BobK:  Quite the paint scheme on those F40s!

<>Cheese:  Did you catch this guy?  Watch out, he’s in training.

Paul:

I had the colonoscopy a couple of years ago. The doctor said there were no problems and to see him again in 6 years.
…by which time you will probably just have to swallow a largish pill that contains the camera.  They’re already using those.

Fergie:

Der: Was in George's yesterday for glue and a chat He's got a few new kits.
…HO or N, did you notice?  BTW, where is the Truro Train Show held? I’ve never been but plan on this one.

Mike:  Praying for Jan, and have sent the request to our Churches’ national prayer chain.Angel [angel]

PC:  That Atlas Code 55 looks really good stuff.  I’m kinda sorry I didn’t go for it for this layout.  I’ve got a couple of pieces to provide the inside guard rails for my viaduct.  The 55 will stay “rusty” when I clean the code 80 main line, I hope.

Jerry: Glad Sallie was OK after that long medical day.  That must be very tiring.

RT:  That’s a thing one doesn’t think about, what conditions are like for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Simple things like sheets, who knew?

That’s about it for me for today.  Goodnight all, and God Bless.  Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort, and peace.Angel [angel]

MMM... cheeseburger please!  Hopple, glad to see you got to see the 844 and 4449... I went to see them in Fife... what fun.  The bonus was, on the way home from Federal Way yesterday, I got to see them pulling the excursion crossing a bridge over the Pullayup River... almost crashed my car on I-5 I was so excited...no time for a pic though Sad [:(]

RT, small world... my cousin landed in Beruit the day after the barracks got hit (God bless them all!)  Anyways, you probably ran into each other without even know it... 6 degrees of separation, eh?

I hope to work on my layout tomorrow...been all week since I could work on it.  Well, back to work... duty calls.

Evening Gang: I'm going to make it an early night. I went over to the track today and we did some more track work and clean up. The track is really in good shape. Tomorrow we will again hit the track and more clean up. In the morning Mary Ann and I have to go over to our sons house and pick up the rest of the wheels that I got. Then we'll probably take them to breakfast. I think that he is holding the wheels for ransome.

Well I think that I'll hit the sack.

Good afternoon diners.  It's root beer float time here!

RT ......  I did not know of your son.  It is heartwarming to see your kindness. I read the link concerning the operation bedding memorial fund.

Everybody else....... Again, here's the link for all to read...  http://www.adamconboymemorialfund.org/

Bobk ...   Scrambled eggs are what I get when I fry them and they break!  Don't tell Ryan. He's a real chef.  He might laugh at me or poke fun at me. The gold spike celebration was interesting. Opening a new commuter line has its risks. It's quite a problem for the new suburban rail line in Nashville. There may be a series of grade crossing accidents until local drivers are used to trains on those tracks. Also, it was very nice of you to remind people to get their colonoscopies.

Paul ... Regarding teaching.... Sadly way too many kids don't do their assignments, are high on drugs, are absent without excuses, drop out before graduation, disrpt class rooms, and so on.  Despite substantial increases to education at taxpayers' expense, there has been little or no improvement to quality of education.  Therefore, I question the wisdom  of any increased taxes for education. When students and their parents change their ways, I'll recondider.

Chuck & Kathy .... I, too, was glad about your good news.

Fergie  ...  A 13 km bike ride!  Good for you!

Pennsy Dave ........  I'm impressed that you have done some authoring of articles. They Kestone Modeler on-line had good insights for me when I rebuilt the Bowser T-1. I have a good friend who has has writnew many articles in N-Scale magazine and in Model Railroader.

Inch ... Sorry to learn of your frined, Jan and her cancer.  There's a woman in church here who has cancer, too.  Her husband told me at the church meeting last night how tough her chemotherapy is.  Not pleasant at all.

Hoople ...  Thanks very much for sharing the 4-8-4's with us.  It's good of you to do that. I recall the Burlington Route's steam excursians in the early 1960's. I rode on them.  They used mostly a 2-8-2 and a 4-8-4.  The 2-8-2 survives today. It was rebuilt a few years back by the Grand Canyon Railroad for use on their passenger trains.

Hey guys with today being armed forces day I ask you all to look at this site and see if you can help either with letters to our troops or some how heres the story that got me going on it.

I came across this on yahoo's front page

Operation Bedding came to be after a Sunday morning phone call from our son Adam. At the time he was serving in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He asked if I could send him bed sheets, he requested forty sets. He explained that the weather was so hot, and with little free time clean sheets would be nice. He was concerned that his friends have the same comforts that he had and that's why he needed forty sets. He jokingly said get Operation Bedding going mom. That Friday he was killed.

Without realizing it Adam had just set up his own memorial fund. For the funeral services we requested money instead of flowers so we could send a shipment of supplies to Adam's friends still serving. The outpouring of love and support was overwhelming. So many expressed their gratitude and were eager to help.

Since that time with the support and generosity of others we have been able to send thousands of dollars in supplies and goodies. It is our way to express our gratitude to those so willing to lay down their life for our freedom. Please join our effort!

Well it's another good morning from wet easterm Massachusetts. Supposed to be this way all weekend.

I guess I'll have the same but make them scrambled

and cream and sugar for the coffee, please

I hope that the rain will not ruin the photos of Old Colony test train today. Most of the critical signals and grade crossings have been finished. It's been a thrill to watch the progress of this project almost in my back yard. The train actually will run about 1/2 mile away from my house with 2 stops in town. Can't wait for a ride into Boston. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope to post some pics later.

Time to gather up all the photo stuff and a cup for the road. We may stop by the club for some additional shots of the layout.

I haven't heard a thing from Michael (8500hpgasturbine). I'm a bit concerned, now. It's been a while. I'll just continue to email them and express our concern.

Mornin' All!

Beautiful morning around here....mostly because I don't have school this morning!  Oh yeah, the weather is nice too!

Hey Zoe!  How you doin'?  Good, good, yeah I'll have the chocolate chip pancakes......very funny Zoe!

Well, I think I came to a decision last night.  I was going to use Micro Engineering code 70 rail and turnouts for the mains on my N scale layout, and Atlas code 55 for the shortline.  Using the code 70 would allow me to run older loco's with bigger flanges and it would give a visual difference to the main and the shortline.  Problem is, I'd have to rebuild much of the ME #6 turnouts to make them DCC friendly and I'd have to rebuild the Shinohara three way turnout too.  This is not something I look forward too as it's tedious, time consuming, and just generally a pain in the posterior.  Meanwhile, Atlas code 55 is ready to go right out of the package, so........I think I'm just going to do the whole thing in code 55 and just use weathering and ballast to differenciate the two lines.  I won't be able to run the oler loco's, but I only have a few of them anyways.  Maybe I can sell them to cover the cost of the new track.  I hate that I've already bought all of the ME track and turnouts, but, that's a lot of turnouts that I won't have to fiddle with.  I can get to running trains instead.

Inch, Jan and her family will get prayed for, I assure you of that.

Mornin all, Coffee an couple doughnuts please Janie.

Look to be some warmer, bout 75 and sunny, nice day to mow again. Had to get some mower gas last night, cost $3.44 a gal. in Marshall.

GARRY,, thanks for the pics, I think that would nave been a pants changing moment for the train crew and anyone on the road.

I can remember milk men and home delivery in glass bottles. I had a cousin that delivered to homes and stores till the mid 60's in Marshall, then just stores. Also I had it when we lived in Peru, IN for a while in 72-73

DICK,, Mothers still looking at puters. She's got a meeting in Terre Haute today and was going to look some over there before she comes home

CHUCK N KATHY,,so good to hear from you and that your both doing well.

BOB K,, thanks for the pics. Those two guys with the spike hammers look dangerous to themselves and others.

PC,, sound like your in for a fun summer with being out of school. Hope ya gets lots of MRR time.

I have a prayer request for a very good freind of ours, JAN, who found out she has cancer and things don't look good for her. She's 54 and their yougest daughter gets out of high school this year, and could use all the help she can get.

No big plans for the weekend chores, kids and all that. I think we're going to a cook out this evening and theres a ball game tomorrow afternoon. I was hopeing to go to the off-track betting parlor for the horse race this afternoon, but thats out, maybe the next one. Best gets round, hope ya'll has a good safe day.

Good morning, Janie - cup of coffee, glass of Ed's OJ (we do still have the real stuff, right?), and some waffles, please.

Oh, what the heck - and one of Bill T.'s chocolate long-john donut, too. Thank you, ma'am. I'll have my breakfast over by Fergie. You aren't dripping water still, are ya, Fergie? Don't want to water down Ed's OJ. Wink [;)]

Chuck & Kathy, sorry I missed you last night. Good to hear things are being taken care of on your health (both of you). Great to hear you got the home and the MRR room cleaned up. Now you can get a little more MRR'ing done. Yeah!! [yeah]

Pennsy Dave, you're a published author huh? Congrats! Bow [bow] I may have to go look up their website, as I only get MR and RMC currently.

RT, that basset hound's ears are big enough, I think he could even do semaphore code, too! My aunt and uncle in St. Louis County used to have one of those, until it took off after a rabbit one day - and never came back.  Wink [;)]

Bob K., good to hear you're having a good day. As time goes by, you probably will be having more of those and not as many of the bad days. Angel [angel]Angel [angel] Our club layout's not nearly as big as your club has - we could probably fit in one corner of yours! Laugh [(-D] Yep, we've just had staging tracks at either end of the mainline run until now. One of them is now (mostly) double-ended because of the continuous run (double) mainline, and the other will be trimmed down to a couple or three tracks (was about 8). On the Campbell building, the thing we liked was that it came with plans to build it as run-down (gaps in the roofing, saggy beams on one corner, etc.). With another kit, it may take more engineering and modification of the kit, and we only have 8 - 10 members altogether in the club (not everyone makes it to all the meetings, either). So we'll see what kit they come up with to replace the Campbell one. I'll miss this Monday's meeting, since I'll be having an on-call and won't go because I could get called out.

Well, I need to get back to my breakfast here. Got laundry to tackle after that, and a friend's having a fish fry/dinner party tonight. Need to pick up some french fries for him to fix to go with the fish. Probably see everyone in here tomorrow!

Blessings and prayers for healing,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Well it's a rain day here! Just got back from a 13km bike ride and am soaked but the coffee is warming the inards. So no gardening just house work and maybe, just maybe work on the MESS. Finish hooking up those Tsunami's!

Sunset: Glad things are looking up.

Jim: Late night knocking and one minute visits are definately signs of ilicit activity. My Mother In Law's apartment building had a lot of that going on until the new owners decided to do a major cull and invite the Police in.

Der: Was in George's yesterday for glue and a chat He's got a few new kits.

And I must confess I do not tip toe through any tulips, At my size it's a romp!

Anyone hear from GasTurbine?

Evening Gang: I got the creek crossing cleaned out. It took about 4 hours and I'm still sore. We went to see Schrek 3 tonight. It was pretty good. We had a couple of good belly laughs.

Hoople: You have a very good teacher there. You had better let her/him know that you appreciate them. My son is a teacher and he is quitting at the end of this semester. He said that he spends most of his time talking to police and filling out reports. That and parents threatening to sue him and the school.

Chuck and Kathy: That's some real good news about you both. I had the colonoscopy a couple of years ago. The doctor said there were no problems and to see him again in 6 years.

JimCG: I think that you had better get some of those cats to move in with you. I keep an M-4 with a red dot sight by the bed myself. No drug dealers yet but plenty of trespassers.

BobK: There seems to be some of that forgetfulness going around. Actually to work on that Kabota isn't too bad. It's just where they put some of the stuff that is maddening.

Well I think that I'll head for bed.

Good Night All

That woman should be nominated for sainthood.

No summer classes this year!

I model in N scale.  I model a fictional line called the Autumns Ridge Railway & Nav. Co. set in the late 20's & early 30's in Maine.  It's loosely based on the Belfast & Moosehead Lake RR.  Right now, since I moved about 6 months ago, I've got benchwork up, subroadbed on some areas (25-30%), a little roadbed, very little track, and I'm goofing with the backdrop now.  It doesn't look anywhere near as beautiful as that one you're working on.

Hi guys,

I'm back and in good spirits today. I guess there will always be some off days from time to time.

Was quite the wet/ rainy day here in eastern Ma, it's supposed to rain all weekend.

Tomorrow at 10am, the long awaited Old Colony, Greenbush branch is to have a test run. This line is part of the old NH that ran from Boston south to Plymouth. It was abandoned in 1959. This runs right through my town of Weymouth, Ma. I do hope that I can have some pics of this. I have no idea what type of power they'll use for the test. Back in Feb, they had a "Golden Spike" ceremony at the Y in Braintree, Ma. Two F40s were placed nose to nose and of coarse all the wiggies and celebs showed up (even the jerks who had opposed it)

some of our motley crew that showed up

I notice that there's a few of us here in Ma.

Guilford Guy from Arlington, I've been working in Cambridge right off Mass Ave not far from you. Have you ever been to our club on the South Shore (Hingham)? It's worth a trip some spring show or fall open house.

Dick in Cherry Valley. Where exactly is that? Dick at least the VCR/DVD combo will hold you over 'til you can copy all the tapes to DVD.

I thought there was someone else, drawing a blank right now.

Jim There's so many great kits out there now, I don't think you'll have any trouble finding a replacement for the Campbell one. So has your club only been able to run point to point up to now? The continous run option is great for shows and for just running trains. We have 2 div so far that have continous run ability now and by throwing a switch to crossover we can run the entire layout (both div) at prototypical speeds it can take up to 15-20 minutes to run the layout.

Philip So do you have summer classes? Sounds like you may be able to get over the modelers block and get back to trains. What do you model anyway?

Garry I remember the milkman bringing the milk in the glass bottles. Don't remember it being in the stores that way.  Think I was too young to remember. I'm  sure I'll be able to get back to the mountain. I'll be working with a member on it. He can always continue the work if I don't make it. The tree clinic he gave last night went very good. Never have enough trees.

Dave V. Or should it be Pennsy Dave? Congrats on your work showing in the Keystone Modeler. There's some fantastic work on the Keystone Modeler's site.

JohnP or JP ? Good luck w/ your new relationship. Wow, the dating thing, almost sounds scarey. Haven't done that since meeting my wife 23 years ago.

Paul Sure been having troubles with that Kabota. I think you have to be 5' 2" and 115 lb to be qualified to fit/ work on them. I passed on the congrats to April L.

Chuck and Cathy So glad to here the news  for you. This could have been very, very serious. My wife April died from Colon Cancer 8 weeks ago. She never had any symptoms at all and had this for 4-5 years before being diagnosed by a colonoscopy. Anyone out ther putting their's off take note of this, please.

Got to run for now, forgot some I know
