Good morning everyone, a clear sunrise this morning, but the clouds have filled back in again, too much instability in the atmosphere after all this rain and now much cooler air.
Today I thought I would cut the "hayfield" again, but now I have an electrical problem to TS in my son #2's camper. All the kids are going camping for the Memorial Day weekend this coming Friday, and his trailer has had a persistant problem with one circuit. Whenever he pluds his power cord into my garage outlet which I have protected with GFCI, it trips my GFCI. I traced it to one breaker circuit in his trailer, the one that supplies 120V to his outlets in the bedrooms. One of these has a leakage/ground fault. So this morning I will run an extension cord from a NON GFCI circuit in my house, and check each outlet for ground fault. This is why I don't get much MRR stuff done this time of the year !!! NUTS !!!
FERGIE: 5-8"?????? I figured you for 6-3"!!!!!!! Were you always last at the dinner table growing up ??? I see all those guys at the Highland games in Nova Scotia, big, tall brutes that look like they could throw me 50 feet never mind those metal balls they heave..LOL. BTW, that resistor is way too small.
BOBK: Great video on the Greenbush, I forwarded that to several other guys up here and they really enjoyed it, and very happy to see the line reactivated. Now all they need to do is extend it to Cape Cod over the RR bridge over the Canal....that would help all the congestion at the Cape!!
Time to get at the troubleshooting...
Good Morning, Diners!
WOW! RT's really having quite a time there! If that's Sam Adams, he's talking big dollars, too.
Fergie, we're Luc-less. If you can track him down, tell we need some Tim Hortons coffee. BTW, Fergie, I meant to tell you before that I like your rairoad's logo. i doubt I can pronounce its first name, however.
Those neat engines posted by Sue have not gone unnoticed. The photo below has an engine that spends most of it's time in my glass display case. (You can tell I like an engine if its in that case.) It's a brass 2-4-4-2 that once operated in the Pacific Northwest. I had a prvious layout that was in the early 1900's era. The engine and some of the cars I have are in the photo.
The locomotive was not wethered for two reasons. One, it was a birthday gift from Shelley. Two, when I said to Shelley, I was think of making it look grimey like my other engines, I got quite a negative response. ....SO, there it is .... just like new!
The layout was my whimsical, Grimensoot Railroad. It serve Hither, Thither, and Yon. The 2-4-4-2 was not used for logging as was its prototype. I needed to haul trains up some of my grades. My models of some of the tiny engines of that era had little pulling power.
I still have photos of that layout. I could scan them if anyone is interested. Some of my wood passenger cars were fun to make.
Happy Model Railroading!

Good Morning One and All
Micheal! Congrats! here's hoping and praying that all goes well for you and your wife. BTW my kids are at the age where hugs are just not done but I still embarass them anyway. Hard to believe at 13 and 16 I look uo at them (I'm 5'8" and they are both 6')
Lisa was more than happy with her 12 long stem roses. If I was to get her anything more she'd be upset! It was a quiet day yesterday as the heavens continued to douse us with water. However it did dry up in late in the afternoon so we fed the kids and Dad and walked down to the local "Ale House" had Schnitzel and German Style potatoes. It was good and very quiet! The way I like it!!
Anyone here from Luc as of late?
Still working on the decoder issue but it is slowly working it's way through. One of the LED's is blinking intermittently and after checking the connections have come to the conclusion the resister might not have enough resistance. The Forward LED (warm) lights up the basement as it is incredibly bright. Anyhow the weather looks reasonable so I think I may make this a "Garden Day". Later All Fergie

Good Morning, Zoe, since RT's buying this morning, I'll just have a cup of coffee and one of those egg sandwiches to go, please. Thanks, RT!
Not much time to catch up this a.m., but maybe this afternoon/evening after work. Everyone take care of yourselves and loved ones.
Blessings and prayers,

Good Evening Gang:
Michael: That is splendid news. I was so excited that my eyes got all watery. Big congratulations to you and Kim. I think that I'll have to have a beer to that, just don't tell my doctor.
Der: Gee why didn't you just go to HO instead of tearing up those trees. Really it looks good.
BobK: Great pictures. I think that you guys up there are going to enjoy that service. We have some thing like that here between Ft.Worth and Dallas. Mary Ann and I use it when I go to the VA hospital in Dallas. We get on in Ft. Worth and ride to Dallas then walk across the platform and get the light rail to the hospital. It's a whole lot more relaxing then driving and only cost $4.00 for the both of us. After November 13 it will be $2.00 since I'll turn 65.
Der: That would be nice to swallow a pill and get it done. Actually the hard part was getting cleaned out. It took 3 days and by then my blood sugar was down to 40. When they told me that I started looking for a Snickers Bar. They said no and I got an IV. Rats. I slept through the procedure so didn't feel anything.
JimCG: Yes the wheels are for the 7.5 in gauge. Actually they are for the 4in scale narrow gauge cars. I have to put new proper size wheels on the two gondolas and I have parts for two more gondolas. I also need new wheels for the gas driven Simplex locomotive and I'm going to do a couple of 4 wheel cars.
Welcome Back David. Have one on me.
BobK: Yea that's working on the railroad all right. Especially after moving a couple of tons of ballast. Ballast for this gauge comes by the 10 yard truck load not little bags from WS.
Well it's bed time. I'll see you all tomorrow.
Good Night All

JR, Did you have it attached with liquid nails? Just asking in case we make a change down the line. No pun intended.
Philip, Wow, I am glad that you are cooking. The lobster and prawns look great.

Good Evening All,
Congrats Michael and Kim that's really great news and hope it all goes well.
And welcome back to the Train Master.
back from New Hampshire where it rained all weekend from the time we passed Concord til we hit Ct on the way home. The guys ran anyway in the rain and all went pretty well despite a few spins and a couple of needed adjustments. Brought my oldest son and daughter along to work and they did yeoman duty out in the rain with me. At least we had rented one of the garages so we had respite between sessions and got dried off.
Sounds like I picked a good weekend to miss on the forum what with trolls and other oddities wandering about. I'll be back after I catch up with the posts. CUL, J.R.

The long awaited completion of the Greenbush Branch of the Old Colony is a reality.
On Saturday, March 19th, the T ran it's first "test train" An F40 #1031 and 6 passenger cars. The branch runs on the old NH line from Boston south to Plymouth. It was abandoned in 1959. These test trains will be running for the rest of the month checking clearances, signals, trackwork and grade crossings.
Here it is approaching Cohasset,Ma Villiage
Note the 1704 Red Lion Inn, this does run through some towns w/ heritage
Chased the train for a few more grade crossings, This is North Scituate
And at Beaver Dam Road, Scituate
Here is a vidio clip of the Greenbush route

It will be a pleasure to take the train into Boston and not deal with the mad traffic.

Michael,
I'm so glad you're back. These are hard days even to come. They do get somewhat better though. I started to have some half decent days, this was of coarse after a few weeks of real bad ones. The first day I felt real good was last week, I almost felt quilty. what had flashed through my mind was that how I could feel good in such a short time after 23 beautiful years with my partner, April. I'm glad the feeling was only a fleeting moment. Thinking of her may bring a tear, but the deep pain seems to be disipating as the days go by. Now I almost rejoice for the great memories we had together. I shure do hope the same for you and Kim.
The news is fantastic. It almost seems a miracle. This reminds me of the Phoenix, how ironic. The Lord shure does work in some strange ways.
Do enjoy your meal, I'll need to pull up a chair and see how that lobster is.
Chloe, Zoe!
A round of Steak & Lobster for my friends Michael & Kim! Thats right, make it the best! They're celebrating!
I'm so happy for you both. I'm sad and I'm happy. I'm all mixed up for you.
Congratulations!
Chuck and Kathy,
Are things drying out down your way? Did you get your rock in last fall?

Good afternoon everyone.....yesterday my son ( son #3 ) and I , went to the Red Sox vs Atlanta Braves game, and for me it was my first time on the "T" as they call it in Boston (MBTA, Metropolitan Boston Transit Authority). The cost of driving into Boston, plus the traffic, in concert with $30 to $40 to park somewhere, makes the "T" a great deal...$4.00 round trip from Riverside ( Route 128/I-95 ) to Fenway Park. Sox won the game 13-3.
The sun finally just came out now at 2pm after three days of rain and showers. Too wet to cut grass, but tomorrow will be a busy day outside for sure.
FERGIE: 10 Km bike ride......that's about 8 miles in the rain, and on those tiny little seats that you can barely get your butt onto....man, that would hurt my groin for sure. Got all your bark spread yet? And don't forget, the new pup is going to bury bones in the gardens!!!
CHUCK & KATHY: That is great news on Kathy, I hope she has a great Summer with no more problems. Now that the MRR room is cleaned up.....keep it that way young man...no excuses or no more pie in the Diner.
BOBK: Cherry Valley is a section of the town of Leicester, which is one (1) town WEST of Worcester, on route 9. Cherry Valley is the eastern part of Leicester. That is good news regarding the Greenbush Line, long overdo. When I see the traffic reports each day for Boston, it is absolutely CRAZY for all those drivers, mostly one person per car, all driving into Boston and metropolitan area bumper to bumper, wasting time, clogging the highways, wasting millions of gallons of gas, and polluting the air, when they could sit back on a train and enjoy a carefree stressless ride. We will take the train from Worcester the next time we go to Boston....no more car trips to Boston for us.
My wife was in a drum corp also, in fact when we were dating, she was the colorguard sergeant for the Leicester All Girls Drum and Bugle Corp. Your email regarding your daughter brought back many happy memories Bob, thank you!!
JEFF: That is fast work on the desks, you guys have a great assembly line going there!!!!
PC: Very nice photos!!! Thank you for sharing them with us, I think I enjoy railfanning as much as MRR'g.
HOOPLE: Good job with Steamers on your day off.....I only wish we had more of BIG Steam here in New England.

Hello everyone:
Below is one of the pix I posted on weekend photo fun earlier. The Heartland Zeohyr is arriving in Blackhawk. The Blackhawk Diner, A favoraite with the local folks in town, is located behind the depot in the sand colored building. Their breakfast bar rivals many elsewhre including the one Jeff posted. It would be good, however, if they hired Chef Ryan!
Fergie: Regarding basements, I take my "sanity breaks" in the basement here. (Actually we call it the "lower level" because it's a finished walk out basement.) Main feature is the train room! It's always good to relax with "the World's Greatest Hobby".
Bobk. Thanks much for telling about your kids. Take a bow! You should be very proud! Looking forward to the pix!
Der .... Actually I do wonder why we (USA) signed the trade deals with China in the 1990's. The budget deficit, however, is not as bad as the goofy news media says it is. Uncle Sam's debt is $9.0 trillion, but his assets are 120.0 trillion. (Media rarely tells about the assets.) So, his net worth is $111.0 trillion. So the "Uncle" is financially sound. ....
Meanwhile, back at the roundhouse. I'm adding to the layout. Eastward Ho! I'm building east from Blackhawk towards the planned city of "Heartland".
One problem. Weather outside is perfect, and there's stuff out there needing attention.
Another good morning from cloudy eastern MA. I haven't seen the weather report, but it's brightening up out there. I wish the train pics weren't in the rain.
I'm still waiting on my daughter to download all the pics. Jennie, the oldest, works Sun mornings at the Stop&Shop (keeps her health benifits and pays for school). I'm looking at the D70 and her Ibook, but I don't dare touch them. Guess we'll all just have to wait.
It was a nice time spending the day with Jennie. She's the one that went on the side job, and helped do the railing for my lawyer. She is a better carpenter than some on the worksite. She can walk into most houses and knows the frame and structure. Once she was on a job and noted the beam replacing a bearing wall, and said" doesn't that need a 3rd LVL for the span? She really should be an architect but her dream is photography and the arts. It is real important at the crucial time that I spend time with these kids. They are doing very well after loosing their mother. Until recently, I wished that I could say the same. My son is always keeping busy off with his friends. They have been working on a mustang (race car) for months now. I did get to spend time with him working on the truck. It was actually one of his friends that brought over the torches for that torch the truck "flame fest" and Sam Adams fire extinguisher night. He is graduating from MassBay degreed Chrysler tech program next week. He already has a job locked in w/ the dealership that sponsered his work study. My youngest, April Lynn the social butterfly of the trio, is in Nashua,NH every weekend with the Spartan drum and bugle corps for their practice. Her HS graduation is June9th and a party of coarse. This one is so busy I don't get much time with her. Maybe it's good she keeps so busy, I beleive this is her way of coping with the past year of dealing with cancer and her mother's death. I felt some would like to know something about these great kids, their mother had such an impact on who they are now.
Jim : So was it those lovely neighbors tat are gone? Hope the new ones are more the quiet decent type. Jennie, my oldest is the photographer, April L. is the younger but loves photo also. The test train was doing under 15mph so it was easy to keep ahead of. My daughter was getting into the thrill of the chase though.
Phillip: Great way to spend the day. The shot of the bridge alone is something to use even for weathering and doing scenery. A train on it is a bonus. That last shot is a beauty and great for showing the ballast profile. (always use stuff like this for scenery) Just let you know I've been doing better, couple days I've felt better that I have in months. I don't do "N", so I'm not much help there for siding and branchline trackage.
Fergie: Congrats on making it to your 18th. With the right woman it can be a pleasure. Wish you many more. It's true, you do learn when to stay out of the basement or go to the club. Worked for me for just short of 23 years.
DER: it's nice having that camp close by. You should be almost ready for the season by now. The scenery is coming out great. I see what you mean about the veining of the rock castings. Are those separations in the foam that you need to disguise? Before going too far with the trees, does your prototype show that a light wash is needed on the outcroppings? This is the time to do it if so.
Brian: I hope your not hangin' out on the forum all day instead of working on the layout.
RT: Thanks for reminding us of Armed Forces day.
Mark: What trains did you see? Maybe I missed it somewhere.
Jeff: So what have you been doing besides just checking out the menu here? Any projects for the day?
Paul: Now that's what I call really "workin' on the Railroad"
Now I'll just hang around, my daughter is due home shortly.
So haven't heard from Dick today- that's why I didn't get my weather report!
Mornin' all!
Got up this morning and decided to go chase a train or two. I only found one though. Quiet day here in the heartland I guess. I did manage to get a couple of good shots of the one I found though.
Here we are at Anderson yard getting ready to leave. (Warning: large pics)http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/5-20-070.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/5-20-073.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/5-20-074.jpg
As the train left the yard I thought of this little bridge over a creek just down the line and decided that might be a good place for a shot. I beat the train there by a couple of minutes and shot one of the bridge and then waited for the train.http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/5-20-075.jpg
I didn't have to wait long. That thing was movin'! It kinda caught me by surprise.http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/5-20-076.jpg
I jumped back in my car, knowing that several towns were just ahead and the train would slow, and I tried to catch up. I actually hit all green lights in town and I came out the other side neck and neck with the train. The train had slowed conciderably and I had open road and a 55mph sign ahead. I run up the way a bit, crossed the tracks, and waited. I managed to grab this beauty of a shot from my vantage point.http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/5-20-077.jpg
At that point I knew there was no way I'd catch it again, so I headed back home. It was fun though, so I'm glad I spent my morning this way.
Well, as you can see by the pics, it's a beautiful day out there today. A few clous and maybe a touch on the cool side, but all in all, not too hard to take!
So what's up with you folks?
Der, that layout is coming along real good!
Good Morning, all! Janie, since the breakfast bar is open, I'll have the buffet, a cup of coffee, glass of orange juice, and a glass of milk to wash it all down with.
Fergie, I'm not afraid of the rain, but I do like sunny days better. Sounds like a soggy day for you guys up in NS. That, or a good day to head for the train room...
Paul, ransom? Your son knows how to drive a bargain, huh? How much does he put away for breakfast? I'm guessing the wheels are for the 7.5" scale, right?
Brian (Shadow Nix), sounds like your railfanning day went well. Will you have pics to post later?
Der, good start on the forest - now, all you need is a hundred or two more trees, huh? That's good that you were able to 'recycle' those trees from an earlier layout. Nice photo of that "muscle mouse"!
Bob K., sounds like you and daughter had a good day - will look forward to seeing the photos later. Were you the crazed driver trying to keep up with the train, and April Lyn the photog? It'll be good once they get that line going - you may be able to post pics as often as Mike does
Mike, another good pic! You have a good location (and the traffic along the lines) near your place for catching the trains (plus when you're going with the CFO on one of her various trips). Keep 'em coming!
It's a quiet morning here in Cape Girardeau today. Little bit warmer (48 F/9 C), the morning dew hasn't burned off (87 percent humidity), but it's supposed to reach about 83 F by this afternoon, so should be a nice sunny day.
Pretty empty parking lot outside the apartment today; two 'new' cars I haven't seen before, and one car that I think might've been left behind by the next door neighbor. I am hearing footsteps upstairs, so not sure if the guy there is getting his last stuff out, or if he and the girlfriend/wife split. The truck for the guy in the lower level is out at the curb, so he's still around. Guess I'll see who else the landlord finds to move into the other places. Boy, I'd like to be able to move to a better apartment myself.
My buddy Mark's fish fry last night went pretty well. Catfish fillets, fries, and someone even brought some kind of lettuce for a salad (whatever kind of leafy variety that has a slight bitter taste to the leaves, I'm not good on some of their names). They had two kinds of pies - a coconut cream, and a chocolate meringue kind, plus someone else brought sugar cookies and chocolate chip. Mark had about 15-20 or so show up. We played a game 'Catch Phrase' (electronic version, sort of like Charades, but you don't have to act it out. You can do things like "Starts with the letter after...", because you can't say the letter that the phrase or word starts with, nor repeat any word or part of the phrase that your team has guessed) Since there are two teams, we've adopted a simple way to help you remember who's on your own team - one team wears a paper towel piece stuffed in your neck (sort of like if it were a bib), so you can see if they're your or the other team. Once your team guesses the phrase, the device is (quickly) handed off to the next person, and when the timer goes off (it speeds up the ticking as it nears the end), the team whose member is holding the device loses a point. If the phrase/word wasn't yet guessed, the opposing team has to decide on a guess (which will get them a second point if it's correct). Hectic at times, but fun.
After church, I need to do some vaccuuming and cleaning around the apartment, and get some stuff reorganized/straightened/tossed (as needed for various items). Think I've just been somewhat apathetic about getting much done around the place (part of which may be the laptop being out of commission). Oh, haven't heard back from the Mac place yet.
I'll check back in after church and lunch. Got to go shave and clean up for now. Hope everyone gets some sunshine today.
Blessings,
