Morning, Janie - I heard about the ruckus in here the past few days. Did the fire alarm actually go off from PC's card overheating? Wow!! [wow] No kiddin'... Well, I'll have some of Ed's OJ, one of Bill T.'s donuts (the chocoate ones), cup of coffee, and some waffles, please. Thanks, Paul!

Oh yeah, I did find this to bring along that Luc  sent:...

That should make certain coffee drinkers happy. Smile [:)]

Looks like it's been hectic in here earlier, Janie - glad you and the twins were able to get things cleaned up so quickly. Oh, you had some of the sloppy eaters help you? Good idea! Thumbs Up [tup]

Got my laundry done last night, since I'm on-call from 8 a.m. today until 8 a.m. Sunday. Hoping God will be gracious to me, and Cape will have a calm day and night.

In my time at home today (so long as the thing clipped on my belt doesn't go off too much), I'm going to do some figuring of what I absolutely need out of this paycheck and what I can set back for the attorney. Got the student loan payment off and the phone and electric bills are set up to be deducted out early next week, and got groceries last night after laundry. Car tank's still about half full, so I may see if I can get to the next payday without having to add to it. I usually don't drive lots of miles - I live less than a couple of miles from work, laundry, bank, or grocery. Conservation mode kicking in. (not quite the same as when we're saving up for that loco we saw last week at the LHS, but y'know... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

We had our monthly staff meetings this week, and they spent a lot of time showing us numbers for various programs in our agency (which isn't always a good sign - last time they did that was before they reorganized/trimmed/decimated the crisis team, and gave us two days to pick our new jobs). I got there a bit late, but did find out that they are saying they will try to give us 3 percent pay raises and increase our mileage rate to 31 cents a mile. Mmmmfff!! Censored [censored] Well, I won't put that in the budget until I see it in my paycheck, but hopefully it will really happen....

Jeff, sorry to hear that your Mom's back in the hospital after just getting out. Will be praying for the doctors to get wisdom and figure out the best way to treat her that will help. Angel [angel]Angel [angel]

Duke, more nice pics there - that streetcar is like the kind that St. Louis still was running back when I was a wee lad. Wink [;)] That snowblower looks huge - but I'm sure they needed the extra weight to break through drifts and/or ice. That Transportation Museum is a fun place to visit, all right. Oh, if you would've been by my office Friday you might have liked what one of our case workers had - a big Harley bike. The case worker was taking off that day to go for a 90 mile ride with his brother and friends, and he had his doo rag (learned it was to keep the inside of the helmet from getting hair oils, etc. on it), Harley shirt, gloves, the whole regalia!

I'll grab a seat in the booth and finish my breakfast and work sip on my coffee for a while. (Sorry 'bout that, Paul)! Oops [oops]

Prayers for those who are ailing, and for rain for those (like Garry, Inch, Jerry and others) whose areas need it. We've been a bit dry in Cape Girardeau, too.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Jeff .......  We diners are all concerned about "Mom".  Praying for her and for you.  Thanks DavidP for keeping us informed.  Is she at a local hospital? Reason for asking is to suggest moving her to a larger hospital elswhere.  Not to be nosey, but it wokred for me.  I now go to Vanderbilt Hospital, Nashville, TN (over 100 miles from here)  for my problem rather than going to local hospital.

Thanks for coffee, Jim.

She's at Byrd Regional, which is the largest hospital in this area. We now know what's wrong with her and the prognosis is not good. She wants us to just let her go, but my father, my sisters and I are not prepared to do that. Never in my forty-seven years have I ever seen my father cry, until today. This is very serious.

(walks in from baseball game stil in uniform with head hung low, looking demoralized and down.)

I don't know how much more I can take this. Today we lost 16-6 and coach lost it in the 6th inning. He started up a blue streak 5 miles long. yelling at all of us, singling a few of us out. He does not give us details on how to play our postions durring the game so we can play better. My team is on a 4 game losing streak.  Coach yells durring every game, and just takes the fun right out of it, and demoralizes the team when he could be encouraging us and get a rally going. The game is simply no longer fun to me. All because of the coach. I'm serously thinking of either switching to the team I was on last year. Which I had a lot more fun on, or simply quitting the team and do summer swimming.

The whole team is sick and tired of listening to the coach game after game yelling and cursing at us because we made a bad throw, didn't field the ball right even though we got the ball into the infield and kept the runners from scoring or getting extra bases.

(looks for the .50 cal and get all the ammo for it and goes out back. Everyone is quiet as 1,000 rounds oblierate the firing range target.)

Good evening everyone......we arrived back home from coastal Maine yesterday at 2pm. The weather was great, the seafood even better. The outside hot spa and pool overlooking the ocean from the cliff 50 feet above the ocean is really an experience. It was so clear I could almost see Nova Scotia. I thought I saw Fergie's ship far out to see through my telephoto lens.

JEFF: I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I am the oldest of three children spread 7 years apart, so my mother and I were very close, especially from age 6 through 12 when my father worked 2nd shift. When she passed away at age 72, I was devastated. My thoughts and prayers are for you and your family Jeff.

PAUL: I am sorry to hear of the loss of lives due to the flooding in your area. We were watching the Weather Channel while we were away and we witnessed the severity of flash flooding. I cannot begin to imagine how these families will cope with their loss.

COLBY: I managed Minor League, and Little League for 10 years, and Senior League for 3 years, and I have seen managers and coaches like yours. Baseball is supposed to be fun first and foremost. Secondly, it is instructional. That means that the manager and coach "teaches" the game of baseball to the players. Some coaches and managers try to re-live "their" lives through the players. They want to win so bad, that they lose sight of what they are supposed to be doing. My advice is talk to your parents, and have them and other parents talk to the League President about this coach. Yelling and screaming is not allowed by Williamsport. And I certainly hope he is not using profane language, for if he is, that is cause for dismissal as a coach...PERIOD !!!!

DUKE: That is some rotary plow. They use these extensively on mountain railroads, and areas that get copious amounts of snow and drifting where the regular Diesel locomotives with plows, can't bust through the packed drifts, like Donner Pass, and the Cascades.

FERGIE: That is very interesting about the tidal wave in 1929. That is the first time that I ever heard about this. Do they know what caused it? It could have been an earthquake of course, and most likely was, however a huge section of the continental shelf could have broken away, and this would also cause a tidal wave. I know that the scientists are very concerned about the same thing happening off Cape Hatteras.

Grayfox:Thanks for the support. It's very welcome.

With all that's going on right now, I just don't have much interest in the forum. I'm gonna turn in early and call it a night.

Thanks to all for the prayers and support. She's doing a little better this evening.

I couldn't figure out what that was either actually.  I figured I'd play dumb (not really much playing there) and maybe somone would clue me in.  As for the tanks, I think thats "wet water" for gluing the ballast in place before they add the weeds.......or maybe they're just spraying the water as they settle the ballast in order to keep the dust down.  It's been awful dry around here until the last couple of days.  Now we're finally getting some much needed rain.

Evening Gang:

Jeff I'm so sorry to hear that you mom is back in the hospital. My thoughts are with you and your family. I'll keep a prayer for her.

JimCG: Sit back and relax and have another cup on me.

We hauled hay over to the side of the fields all day. Except for the couple, three hours that we spent in town trying to get a flat tier fixed. It was the right front on my tractor. The hauling really went fast with both of us doing it. Next we have to haul it across the UP tracks and to the hay lot.

Has anyone heard from Micheal?

Well I'm going to hit the showers.

Good evening, diners.

It's actually raining here now.  It's about time.

I looked into IHC's website today. Listed under "New Products" are 2-10-2 steam locomotives with 24 different models from which to select. All 24 are already sold out.  FERGIE!

Have a nice evening everyone.

Busy day today!  I've got to take my boy to MDA camp.  It's something he really looks forward to each summer.  The Muscular Dystrophy Association puts on a camp for all of Jerrys Kids each year and he just has a ball there.

Oh, and we've finally been getting that rain we've been needing!  It rained the night before last, all day yesterday, and all night last night.

Oh, and Chloe......fix my friends up with whatever they want.  Thats right, use the credit card that I left behind the counter.  What do you mean "declined"?  That can't be!  What do you mean "party"?  Seafood party!  Who.......Jeff!  You mean he..........  Oh he did, did he?  Alright, here's a couple of Ben Franklins to cover today.

Now where's that Jeff?!?

Good morning, gang.  Coffee please.

I should be around for a few days.  Friday and Saturday I was at a Pacific Northwest Christmas Tree Association Meeting.  It was our annual Farm Tour.  They take us by bus to visit local farms.  This year we visited some first class farms.  I always learn a lot.

It is raining so we might get a little layout time.

Hey guys,

last friday night I stayed the night at my freinds house... Well in my naborhood there is a mean pitbull gaurd dog that got loose, we were walking to my freinds house  (right down the street)  @ 10:30 P.M. , and he just stops and says "shhh" what we heard was a chain dragging on the ground. He took off running towerds my house and I followed suit. I looked behind me and saw a dog. Then the addrenoline kicked in and I Ran the fastest I've ever ran in my life. we got to my back door and to my worst fear it was locked. I started to slam on the door and door bell. and after what seemed like forever of ringing it my bro answerd the door. we shoved him out of the way an ran inside. After a few minutes inside my mom said she would drive us to his house. Well we get outside and saw the dog. It turns out it's my freinds dog who got loose and was waiting for him. the dog had seen him run and thought he was playing.

When we were running it seemed like everthing was slow. I know your not supposed to run from a dog but i did. Well that was my experence this weekend. Anyway,Jeff i'm sorry to here about your Mom hope she gets better. Still no rain here... No time on the layout ether.

Things are going well at the new NTRES (we moved due to host problems).  We've had about a third of our previous members join.  We'll be gone at Yellowstone beginning Thursday and coming back around the 14th of July.  Fortunately, there is a good chance of snagging some internet, so I'll post pictures and stuff.  We'll be near major BNSF lines along the freeway as well (can you say "MAJOR RAILFAN SIDE TRIP!").

Jeff- Sorry to hear about your mother.  I'm praying for her.

Have a great day!

Good Evening, Chloe - I heard that PC was buying and decided I was hungry enough for the steak special, please! Dinner [dinner] Thanks, PC!   (Now, so long as a certain someone gets back with that card before PC notices it's missing..)Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Jeff, sorry to hear about your Mom (but glad she's a bit better). Will be having her in my prayers, along with all the rest of us in here pulling for her - and all your family; probably toughest on your Dad. Hey, for someone who didn't go to college, you sure know how to lead a conga line (Chloe showed me the pics - she said she'll be putting them up on her website later tonight...)

Colby, ditto what Dick said about coaches and ball teams (of all varieties). He doesn't need to be taking anything out on the team members, no matter how many games were lost. Say, your team name isn't the Cubs, is it? Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^] (just kidding, if any of you are really Cubs fans...)

PC, I'd have to agree with DerJohn's comments - I had to stop and re-read that line about the ballast spreader - caught me by surprise with that one... Wink [;)] Hope your son has a fun time at camp. I remember one of the favorite things in summer for me was Boy Scout camp. Didn't matter how hot the days were, we could find shade or go to the swimming place Yeah!! [yeah] or cool off somehow.

Paul, that cup of coffee Saturday had to last me a while. I got a call around noon, and got back around 8 p.m. Shock [:O] About six hours of that was getting one kid placed in a hospital - there were some medical issues and one facility shied away because of that. Finally did get the kid some help, though. I also got to see some of the familiar Dr's. & nurses and techs, since I haven't been on-call as much with the new setup (plus God's been kind to me on my on-calls). I have another on-call this Wednesday, but that one is only from 4:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. (which seems much shorter in comparison to a 24 hour stint).

Paul - did you get any rain in your neck of the woods like Mike and Jerry did? Garry, how about Kentucky - you get some rain for your parched browngrass bluegrass? We got some this evening. It started with a severe thunderstorm warning around 6:15-6:45 as the start of the front moved in, and it's been raining off and on most of the evening since.

Garry, glad to help you out on the coffee - I'll swing by Luc's on the way here in the morning and pick up another bag in case our servers are running low. Wink [;)]

Sounds like a major railfan trip for you, Jordan (csxguy) - you might need more film (or a bigger memory card if you're shooting digital) - and you know we will be looking forward to your pics, right? Thumbs Up [tup]

Jake, I probably would've run if I thought a pit bull was after me, too! Good thing it wasn't that, though. [Whew!]

Oh yeah, Saturday I also noticed that my apartment's air conditioner has quit working (fan and/or compressor, not sure which - but it isn't blowing anything if I try to have it on, so I turned it off). I called the landlord and left a message, and he called me back just before I got paged. Said he'd called two different guys about coming to see about fixing it, but that they might not be by until Monday with it being the weekend. It wasn't fixed by the time I got back from my call out, and I was glad I didn't have anymore calls last night. May need to take another shower in the morning just to wash the sweat off from tonight. Hoping the rain will drop the outside temp and some of it will get in the windows through the night (it's hard to get cross circulation in my apartment). This afternoon, I went by the local Panera's and got a soda (free refills Smile [:)]) and stayed a couple or three hours to cool my body temp down before I went back home.

Better go rinse off and get ready for bed (after the news).

See everyone in the morning! Prayers for all in need, and for your families as well.

Blessings and many prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Well, our weatherguy tonight said that in one hour we got as much rain as we'd had for the whole month of June so far. Shock [:O] From the weather radar maps, it looks like Garry may have got some rain, too (how far east in Kentucky are you, by the way?).

Time to get back to getting ready for bed for me.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good evening:

Inch said:   "PC, that piece of MOW eguipment is for laser aligning the track [If memory right]. And thanks for the pies."  are you sure it's not some leftover props from a Star Wars movie?

Yes, Jim, we've had some rain finally.  Forecast is for chance of rain tomorrow. The Smokey the Bear sign in Land between the Lakes warns of severe risk of forest fires. Anyhow, we're in the west end of KY in the Land between the Lakes area.

Today, I started building a baggage mail car for the layout.

G'nite.
