Good evening everyone, getting everything in order here at the ranch before we head to the MAINE coast for a few days R&R. Son #1 is in charge of quarters while we head into Colby territory and 200 miles closer to Luc, John and Fergie. Today I added 2gb of RAM to the computer, the prices have dropped considerably. Also added a FireWire 4 port card to the ISO slot in the computer. I want to convert many of my photos and Video camera tapes, as well as some VHS tapes, to DVD's and do some editing and sound bites, and FireWire is a faster way to transfer than USB.

GARRY: Yes indeed...those are EXCELLENT photos, clear as a bell. And what a great layour you have!!!!!! I love bridges, very impressive.

DUKE: Great aerial shots, you handle that camera so well with one hand while you fly your ultralight!!! Sorry I insulted your bike, I thought you had a Harley. BTW, tell Faye she looks great in that shot of her, but how come she doesn't have her leathers on?

FERGIE: Can you make port in Maine somewhere? I will be there until Friday morning.

I will be offline until Friday, so please treat the staff with respect in the Diner....some of you guys have been a little rowdy since school has ended according to Zoe and Cloe.

Hey guys, just stopping in before I go to a friend's house.
I just wanna say: IT CAME! Yes, my E9 came, but I am having trouble finding the darn DCC plug. Can anyone help me? Where is the plug for the decoder?
I'm starting to wonder if I got an older version with no DCC...

Evening Gang: Not much doing tonight. We did some chasing around today looking for filters and a drive belt for the vacumm cleaner. We came up with 2 filters at Lowes ( sorry Dick), but no belt. We'll have to hit the place where we bought the vac tomorrow. One our heighbors called and asked me to come over tomorrow to take a look at his crossing on the UP. He said that there seems to be a problem and he wanted my openion before he calls the UP.

Nothing new on the modeling front eather large or HO.

The flooding is the big story here. So far 4 dead and 5 missing. After several years of drought flooding is not something folks expect.

I am going to head for bed.

Good evening, Chloe - a hot fudge sundae and a cup of coffee, please. Smile [:)]

Well, Inch and Jerry - I hope you guys saw a little rain your way today. We didn't see any (unless it rained very, very briefly this afternoon - there was some dust pattern on my windshield when I came out after work). Just a hot day here for us.

Garry, nice pics of your friend's IC layout - nice cow and calf units there! Thumbs Up [tup] Does that one part have a mirror? It looks like a funny transition across the backdrop, and I was wondering.

Good luck with getting the tracklaying done, Jake. Better thing to do, especially if it's hot outside and you have a fan or air conditioning inside. Yeah!! [yeah]

Jerry, even if you had to balance the work table on your nose, the price was right for that! How's Sallie been doing lately, by the way?

Duke, thanks for the shots of St. Louis (including the new stadium) - you did pretty good with those. I haven't seen TRRA locos in a long while - don't care if you piggybacked on a pigeon to get them!Shock [:O]

Hoople, good to hear your loco arrived! Yeah!! [yeah]

Well, our MRR club met tonight with the church people about our layout space. They asked what kind of compensation (for all the materials that probably would have to be replaced if we moved to the building next door), and they got a figure, so now we wait to see if they will match that figure or not. The landlord did say (twice - in front of them and separately in front of the club members) that he would prep the basement space we would be moving into for us (at no charge). One of the club members (who'd helped design the current layout arrangement) figured that we could re-assemble our current layout into the 'new' space and have some space left over. Of course, there's the matter of disassembling the layout into movable sections (it was originally in modules, so could possibly be taken apart if we're careful)... Mixed feelings about moving or not among some of the members. The landlord did say he wouldn't raise the rent after we move, but that he wouldn't mind having us stay put, either. The church probably will be moving in another 2-4 years, anyway, since they have land that was donated for a future church building. We'll see in another week or so what happens.

Tomorrow morning, I get to call and get the court date continued for another 30 days. Need to get together the attorney's and bankruptcy fees, but I'm going to do my part and trust God to cover anything else that's needed beyond what I can set back. Would appreciate any and all prayers for that.

Air conditioner is still off-and-on squalling (compressor bearing or something...?). I'm sure the neighbor's loving listening to that. I may also call the landlord tomorow and see if he'll get someone to come fix that.

'bout time for me to head for bed. See you all tomorrow!

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Morning All,

Just a regular to go for me please Zoe. Still scrambling to catch up here and I'm off to Mosport in Ontario tomorrow.

No time really for much MRRing - just an hour or two to unwind a bit but mostly it's been work or work. Mt Equinox hill climb went well with the customers and it was probably my only weekend this year - the last in my old Lotus 18 as it's been sold. Did set a personal best time and fast time of the weekend. Watkins Glen last weekend went well also for the customers though the one guy we were helping blew his very expensive Mugen F3000 motor on his Saturday morning warm up lap. No warning, just a rod through the side of the block.

Next week is Mid Ohio, then a week with no race so with luck I'll finally get close to catching up with the job load. Still two mechanics short but I have a new guy starting next week.

Hope you are all doing well betweeen tornados and floods. and I hope to be back on a more regular basis soon.   CUL, J.R.

Jeff ............. great news regarding "Mom".  We'll be praying for her continued recovery.

Jim Cape G ....... You are in court this morning according to your post yesterday.  Let us know how it went. Also, we'll be interested in the continued adventures regarding the club layout and its looming relocation.

Duke...........  I, too appreciate the St Louis pix. Great photos.

And thanks to those who complemented the picture I posted of my friends (gus) layout. I should have mentioned he has a lot of electronics installed.  DCC.  Sounds for scenes such as running water noise at the waterfall. Crossing bells.  Also, he has detection circuits for the crossings. Trains run automatically through reverse loops with tortoise switch machines working as needed. ...and a bunch of other stuff. Loco paint schemes are IC passenger brown, early IC freight black, IC orange/white, ICG orange white, ICG gray/orange, GM&O red/white, Chicago Central red, late IC black, and CN black/red/white. There are no mirrors, Jim.

Hoople ......... did you find the DCC plug? I think you can tell if it is an early run by looking at the cab doors. Early LL E8/9's had hinged cab doors, and I recall hearing newer runs have the doors that do not open. I might be worng so get a second opinion. I have some early run models and am quite pleased wth them.

Happy Model Railroading.

Afternoon all

Garry I think you missed my post awhile back when you asked about the train show at Cobo in Det,but are you thinking of coming this way for it??? I plan to go Sat for the train show but won't make any of the convention because of the cost and saving vaca time for later in the year.

JimCG

you did pretty good with those.
Yeah, not too bad considering it was from 630ft in the air and doing it through a window.

Jake Are you soldering the rail joiners of the two pieces you are using to do the oval?? If not that could be part of the problem and you can get a kinck through the curve as well.

JR If I had more time I would come down to Mid-Ohio to see you because it is about a 4hr run from where I am.

Ok all here we go again.

The window wasn't the cleanest and it was a little hazy as well.

Duke - we go to Gratten Raceway near Grand Rapids gthe 15 - 19th of August if that helps. We could put you on the crew list if you want.

Gotta run the fire department just pulled in next door.  CUL, J.R.

Bill - perhaps your computer needs more caffine in the am.

Duke - you can let me know any time up until we leave for the track - usually the tues before as it's a two day tow for us. Not sure just what it's near but yes they have both bike and bicycle races there as well. The track itself is a hoot to run with off camber corners and a jump in the back. J.R.

I think there's been a lot of major-league house cleaning of the forums going on the past couple of mornings. For one thing, I've noticed that every post UPCHUCK has ever made is gone, along with his threads and all his alias's. I've noticed posts and threads by some others have gone missing as well. Guess Bergie got tired of the flamers and turned on the sprinklers.

Hello everybody.

Severe drought conditions persist here. News report says we need 15" of rain over next 3 months to make up for water shortage.  I recall June of 5 years ago that it was flooded here.

Duke asked ........."Garry I think you missed my post awhile back when you asked about the train show at Cobo in Det,but are you thinking of coming this way for it??? I plan to go Sat for the train show but won't make any of the convention because of the cost and saving vaca time for later in the year."  .......... Duke. My schedule is still uncertain, but I think Saturday at the convention train show will work for me. I have a friend who will be selling stuff there, and he wants me to come to the show and buy stuff. I think I have plenty already.

Any chance the Canadians will have some T.H. coffee available in the morning?

Bye

Against my better judgement I'm going to post. If I hit the totp girls you know what to do.

Mary Ann and I just got back from checking on John's house. He and his wife have taken a trip to Alaska to visit her sister and family.

I fised the vac and started work on the first flat car. I have to do a little planning to get everything to work right. I really want to get the gondolas running as they are needed to haul the grass cuttings out of the far back yard. Tomorrow I may start to haul hay in from the fields. I need to get in touch with the UP people about the old comunication lines taken down before they fall down and block the crossing. Also I have to get them to send out someone to watch my back while I mow the weeds so we can see. I meet with my neighbor at his crossing this morning. It seems that water is making the crossing very muddy. He's worried that the roadbed may give way. He's going to call the railroad.

Well I think that I'll head for bed. Here goes nothing.

Good Night All

I think that a root beer float sounds like a good evening snack.

Jeffrey,  It makes me feel better to know that someone else has trouble working on their layout and holding down a job too.

We just got 2 new barn kitties and boy are they wild.  Tonight is their first night in the barn.   I still have them in a carrier  until I am sure that they won't run away.

Work tomorrow and climbing tomorrow evening, then maybe I can think about the layout on Thursday if I am not called in to cover a sick coworker.

Hi Chloe - yep, running late again tonight. I think I was the last one in last night until the morning bunch came in today. Just a hot cocoa for me now, thanks.

Duke, you mean you didn't pop the window out and use the Windex to clean it, so you'd get better pics? Evil [}:)]Wink [;)] Do you think there was mud on the window for that one shot of the yard, maybe? Wink [;)] I imagine they don't get their window washers up to the top of the Arch very often. The other pics look better.

Jeff, good to hear your Mom's improving - hopefully she'll be home soon. Now if Bergie could only let those sprinklers spray a bit over here in the (dry) midwest, might cool us down a little. Whistling [:-^] How much longer do you think your current job will run, until you can go hit the LHS and your layout again?

Jake - are you very close to Chattanooga, if you're that far east in Tennessee? I went with another couple as chaperones for a senior trip back in the mid-70's, and we went through the Smokies and Tennessee about as far as Chattanooga. Saw the train station there, which was pretty neat. Yeah!! [yeah] Good luck with getting the track evened up. If it's not lining up as far as the ends of the rails go, that's not unusual for flextrack - you'll have to get some rail cutters (the Zuron's are a little more money, but well worth the money). If it's the height that's not matching up, you may need to get some thin stock (plastic, cork, or wood, maybe) to level the ends up so they match. Others can probably offer even better suggestions than that.

Jerry, if your weather is like ours, Sallie may not want to go out in her chair much, the past few days. Unless she has a sunshade on her chair, that is. Whistling [:-^]

Wow, Garry, Gus' layout must have a lot of work in that Bow [bow] - not sure I'd want that much automation (and $) put into my layout. Of course, mine is considerably smaller than Gus' is.

Okay, now for the 10:00 news... Called the circuit clerk this a.m., and got a continuance until July 19th on the court deal. (The original date was this Thursday - the 21st of June) Now to get the funds together for the filing fee and half the attorney's fees. Probably be eating a lot of PB&J sandwiches for a while to stretch the budget and save the money up, plus talking with God about whatever else I need. Angel [angel]Angel [angel]

As for the MRR club, at the moment we have given the church people an amount we'd like for compensation (for what will likely be ruined in moving), the landlord said he will prepare the basement (drywall, additional outlets as needed, and drop ceiling and lights)(that was better than what he'd said before), and we're waiting to see what the church will do after the whole church votes on it. Some of the members (including myself) are having mixed feelings about moving/not moving. One member (who helped design the layout that we have in there now) figured out that there is room enough for us to set up the same layout in the new space in the basement, so at least we shouldn't have to do lots of rebuilding (if we can move the sections without breaking anyone's back in the process). Supposedly the rent won't go up, though I think I heard some of the officers talking about possibly raising dues. If that happens anythime soon, I won't be able to stay in the club, though.

Paul, you're just soooo lucky tonight! Uh, yeah, sure you are... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Time for me to head for home and bedtime. See everyone in the morning!

Blessings and cooler weather,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Just quick one this evening.  We're still working at the last bits of packing.  Tomorrow, hopefully fairly early, we head out on the big summer trip.  First it's driving up to the Houston area to see DD / S-I-L / grandson.  So on-line access will be a bit sparce for a few days.  I should be able to log in from the daughter's computer once we're there.

Then next week we fly from Houston to Canada.  I can't wait to get to some cool weather.

Not much progress on the layout.  I will get motivated when i get back.

Hold the fort.

regards

Ed
