Morning.

Well I slept in till' 11:45 am today. When I woke up it was sunny now it's cloudy. Got a baseball game today at 6:00pm. had one yesterday lost 12 to 1. My coach was very close to going out on to the field with a bat and use it on the pitcher. He threw 90 pitches in 4 innings.

I got a basehit and flyed out to Center field.

Train Business: My brother was a Honorary Paige at the State Senate yesterday. Got to meet The Senator from my county. and I asked her way is it taking so long to get passenger rail service up to Lewiston. (either Amtrak or light rail don't care which (prefurably Amtrak)) it turns out that the state "does not have enough money" to up grade the existing track in Lewiston to were it's sutable for trains, even though Maine is the 2nd most taxed state only topped by New York.

But she said that either later this year or next year there with be a Federal transportation bond/grant package that will be available. It needs to be voted on first.   Most of that money will be spent on track upgrades and repairs.

I'll check in later

If it's not lining up as far as the ends of the rails go, that's not unusual for flextrack - you'll have to get some rail cutters (the Zuron's are a little more money, but well worth the money). If it's the height that's not matching up, you may need to get some thin stock (plastic, cork, or wood, maybe) to level the ends up so they match. Jim- We live pretty close to Chattanooga I think it's like a 30-45 min drive. We live in Loudon if you no were that is. Thanks for the tips. Good luck with the club and the court date... I hope you don't mind my asking but why are you going to court?

Not much time on the layout latley. The track still won't line up but I think i'm just going to use flex track to fix that problem.Wink [;)] Yesterday I looked my house up on google maps, on the way home I always see track just heading off into the distance and  I always wondered were it went to. Well after I looked up my house on google maps I looked around for the tracks near my house on google earth, I followed them, and to my very surprise 10 min. from my house there is a big old train yard!!!! I never expected that comeing... well I might go check that out today and do some rail fannig...I hope.

What?  No Tim Hortons coffee this morning? Canadians are slipping! Well, OJ will do just fine for me as I have my oatmeal.

Hello James in Oz ...........  Any good coffee down under you can send to the diner? We can't count on Canadians anymore. Your layout progress sounds impressive. By all means post some photos.

Ed ...... Sounds like a good trip.  If you have computer acess in Canada, please send some Tim Hortons coffee.  Have a safe and enjoable trip!

Duke .........  I just remember Tim Hortons coffee is available in Detroit! If you get a chance....... please send some to the diner.

Jim in Cape G  ........... The court saga continues.  As for the club layout,  maybe things will work out in the long run for the club, and the revised and moved layout will actually be an improvement.

Paul ......... You said John & his wife are in AK.  Good time of the year for that.  Not much darkness in June up there. Where are they visiting? Appreciate the updates on the flat car your starting, the gons, etc. ...

Sue ... you're working too hard it sounds.

Jeff ........ you, too.  Don't let personalities of others influence you.  We know you're the best guy in your town.

Happy Model Railroading!

Phil: Yep there is a disconnect, There always is and always will be. Try working from within the system it can even be more frustrating. More times than not the problem arises from people only knowing some of the Regs and not all of them. If you know all the regs it's easier to twist and circumvent the silly ones!

Not much here as we sailed from Argentia yesterday afternoon and are back 100 miles offshore studying the edge of the Continental Shelf. They are studying the area responsible for the 1929 Tidal Wave that hit Newfoundland and parts of the Eastern Seaboard.

Anyway I'm checking Fire Plans today so I must, once again, run

Morning all!

I've been off line, well, on and off line, for 3-4 days now.  Starting Saturday I began having some major connection problems with the computer.  I thought it was my home computer for a while.  A major clue came Monday morning when my work computer, located miles away from home but through the same provider, was having the same problem.  I realized it wasn't my computer, but the providers issue.  They realized it about the same time I think.  I finally got mostly back on line last night, but it took some doing.  Now I'm back though.

Got some good news and a little goofy govt. news this morning.  My insurance has offered to reimberse me for all of my family's medical expenses since February!  Thing is, I have to show what I spent, right?  No problem!  I go down to the pharmacy where we get all of our medications and I ask for a list of what I spent.  They said, "No problem, it's right here in the computer!"  Then they ask for my name.  I ask them, "Do you want my name, or the names of my family members who are the patients?"  They replied, "Oh, if you aren't the patient, then we can't give you this list."  I asked them why not and they said it's some govt. rule.

So this is how it breaks down:

Due to this govt. rule, they can sell me somebody else's drugs all day long.  I can pay for it with my own money.  But they can't give me a printout showing what I just bought with my own money.

How crazy is that?

Oh well, off to work!

Any of you Diners ever feel like this in the morning?

Aw, c'mon Jeff - what do you really think about that co-worker? Wink [;)] Yeah, I think we've all had to deal with a few of that kind...

I see Bill T. was in plenty early this morning - thanks for bringing the donuts, Bill! (I just might have one of those for dessert after I finish my breakfast...)

OzJim, good to hear about your progress - I can understand working with what you have. I may get some Tortoise motors, but have been debating just getting the Blue Point (manual) switch throws, since my layout for now isn't that deep - 2 and a half feet at the deepest. We'll look forward to seeing some pics of your progress when you get 'em posted. Thumbs Up [tup]

This is really annoying! i still can't post at home! hopefully this works!

Wow it worked!!

----------------------------------

Howdy guys! hope all is well!!

My model RR is coming along... i've just finished carving/painting/scenicking a mountain in one corner and all my cork is layed down, and i've just started laying track.

I'm using Tillig Turnouts as they look quite nice and were all that was available apart from Shinohara. Peco 12mm gauge turnouts became available after i'd ordered the Tillig stuff. The only down side is the Tillig points aren't built like a Peco or Atlas etc, so i've got to either buy Tortoise motors or maybe use another method which i'm still deciding on. The Tortoise motors seem to be the way to go, though.

I'll post pictures on the weekend for you all to enjoy.

All for now...

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Just quick one this evening.  We're still working at the last bits of packing.  Tomorrow, hopefully fairly early, we head out on the big summer trip.  First it's driving up to the Houston area to see DD / S-I-L / grandson.  So on-line access will be a bit sparce for a few days.  I should be able to log in from the daughter's computer once we're there.

Then next week we fly from Houston to Canada.  I can't wait to get to some cool weather.

Not much progress on the layout.  I will get motivated when i get back.

Hold the fort.

regards

Ed

Hi Chloe - yep, running late again tonight. I think I was the last one in last night until the morning bunch came in today. Just a hot cocoa for me now, thanks.

Duke, you mean you didn't pop the window out and use the Windex to clean it, so you'd get better pics? Evil [}:)]Wink [;)] Do you think there was mud on the window for that one shot of the yard, maybe? Wink [;)] I imagine they don't get their window washers up to the top of the Arch very often. The other pics look better.

Jeff, good to hear your Mom's improving - hopefully she'll be home soon. Now if Bergie could only let those sprinklers spray a bit over here in the (dry) midwest, might cool us down a little. Whistling [:-^] How much longer do you think your current job will run, until you can go hit the LHS and your layout again?

Jake - are you very close to Chattanooga, if you're that far east in Tennessee? I went with another couple as chaperones for a senior trip back in the mid-70's, and we went through the Smokies and Tennessee about as far as Chattanooga. Jerry, if your weather is like ours, Sallie may not want to go out in her chair much, the past few days. Unless she has a sunshade on her chair, that is. Whistling [:-^]

Wow, Garry, Gus' layout must have a lot of work in that Bow [bow] - not sure I'd want that much automation (and $) put into my layout. Of course, mine is considerably smaller than Gus' is.

Okay, now for the 10:00 news... Called the circuit clerk this a.m., and got a continuance until July 19th on the court deal. (The original date was this Thursday - the 21st of June) Now to get the funds together for the filing fee and half the attorney's fees. Probably be eating a lot of PB&J sandwiches for a while to stretch the budget and save the money up, plus talking with God about whatever else I need. Angel [angel]Angel [angel]

As for the MRR club, at the moment we have given the church people an amount we'd like for compensation (for what will likely be ruined in moving), the landlord said he will prepare the basement (drywall, additional outlets as needed, and drop ceiling and lights)(that was better than what he'd said before), and we're waiting to see what the church will do after the whole church votes on it. Some of the members (including myself) are having mixed feelings about moving/not moving. One member (who helped design the layout that we have in there now) figured out that there is room enough for us to set up the same layout in the new space in the basement, so at least we shouldn't have to do lots of rebuilding (if we can move the sections without breaking anyone's back in the process). Supposedly the rent won't go up, though I think I heard some of the officers talking about possibly raising dues. If that happens anythime soon, I won't be able to stay in the club, though.

Paul, you're just soooo lucky tonight! Uh, yeah, sure you are... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Time for me to head for home and bedtime. See everyone in the morning!

Blessings and cooler weather,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

I think that a root beer float sounds like a good evening snack.

Jeffrey,  It makes me feel better to know that someone else has trouble working on their layout and holding down a job too.

We just got 2 new barn kitties and boy are they wild.  Tonight is their first night in the barn.   I still have them in a carrier  until I am sure that they won't run away.

Work tomorrow and climbing tomorrow evening, then maybe I can think about the layout on Thursday if I am not called in to cover a sick coworker.

Against my better judgement I'm going to post. If I hit the totp girls you know what to do.

Mary Ann and I just got back from checking on John's house. He and his wife have taken a trip to Alaska to visit her sister and family.

I fised the vac and started work on the first flat car. I have to do a little planning to get everything to work right. I really want to get the gondolas running as they are needed to haul the grass cuttings out of the far back yard. Tomorrow I may start to haul hay in from the fields. I need to get in touch with the UP people about the old comunication lines taken down before they fall down and block the crossing. Also I have to get them to send out someone to watch my back while I mow the weeds so we can see. I meet with my neighbor at his crossing this morning. It seems that water is making the crossing very muddy. He's worried that the roadbed may give way. He's going to call the railroad.

Well I think that I'll head for bed. Here goes nothing.

Hello everybody.

Severe drought conditions persist here. News report says we need 15" of rain over next 3 months to make up for water shortage.  I recall June of 5 years ago that it was flooded here.

Duke asked ........."Garry I think you missed my post awhile back when you asked about the train show at Cobo in Det,but are you thinking of coming this way for it??? I plan to go Sat for the train show but won't make any of the convention because of the cost and saving vaca time for later in the year."  .......... Duke. My schedule is still uncertain, but I think Saturday at the convention train show will work for me. I have a friend who will be selling stuff there, and he wants me to come to the show and buy stuff. I think I have plenty already.

Any chance the Canadians will have some T.H. coffee available in the morning?

Bye

I think there's been a lot of major-league house cleaning of the forums going on the past couple of mornings. For one thing, I've noticed that every post UPCHUCK has ever made is gone, along with his threads and all his alias's. I've noticed posts and threads by some others have gone missing as well. Guess Bergie got tired of the flamers and turned on the sprinklers.

Bill - perhaps your computer needs more caffine in the am.

Duke - you can let me know any time up until we leave for the track - usually the tues before as it's a two day tow for us. Not sure just what it's near but yes they have both bike and bicycle races there as well. The track itself is a hoot to run with off camber corners and a jump in the back. J.R.

Good Evening All,

Bill - did you change shifts? Funny to see you pop in in the evening.

Duke - we go to Gratten Raceway near Grand Rapids gthe 15 - 19th of August if that helps. We could put you on the crew list if you want.

Gotta run the fire department just pulled in next door.  CUL, J.R.

It's ok - just a false alarm - probably a paint booh warning went off due to the heat.

Afternoon all

Garry I think you missed my post awhile back when you asked about the train show at Cobo in Det,but are you thinking of coming this way for it??? I plan to go Sat for the train show but won't make any of the convention because of the cost and saving vaca time for later in the year.

JimCG

you did pretty good with those.
Yeah, not too bad considering it was from 630ft in the air and doing it through a window.

Jake Are you soldering the rail joiners of the two pieces you are using to do the oval?? If not that could be part of the problem and you can get a kinck through the curve as well.

JR If I had more time I would come down to Mid-Ohio to see you because it is about a 4hr run from where I am.

Ok all here we go again.

The window wasn't the cleanest and it was a little hazy as well.

Jeff ............. great news regarding "Mom".  We'll be praying for her continued recovery.

Jim Cape G ....... You are in court this morning according to your post yesterday.  Let us know how it went. Also, we'll be interested in the continued adventures regarding the club layout and its looming relocation.

Duke...........  I, too appreciate the St Louis pix. Great photos.

And thanks to those who complemented the picture I posted of my friends (gus) layout. I should have mentioned he has a lot of electronics installed.  DCC.  Sounds for scenes such as running water noise at the waterfall. Crossing bells.  Also, he has detection circuits for the crossings. Trains run automatically through reverse loops with tortoise switch machines working as needed. ...and a bunch of other stuff. Loco paint schemes are IC passenger brown, early IC freight black, IC orange/white, ICG orange white, ICG gray/orange, GM&O red/white, Chicago Central red, late IC black, and CN black/red/white. There are no mirrors, Jim.

Hoople ......... did you find the DCC plug? I think you can tell if it is an early run by looking at the cab doors. Early LL E8/9's had hinged cab doors, and I recall hearing newer runs have the doors that do not open. I might be worng so get a second opinion. I have some early run models and am quite pleased wth them.

Happy Model Railroading.

That's good news Jeff. I'd kind of lost track of how your mom was progressing and it's good to hear she's improving. J.R.
