Good Morning All.... I'll have a coffee to start. Anybody here belong to a Model Railroading club and if so do you find it benefiscial? I'm thinking of joining one nearby... not sure if will be advantageous to join it or not. Well... gotta go to work now. Will check back later.

Too early for a stiff one, but some Irish coffee might be a good idea right about now!

Mr. B, thanks for the pork tenderlion recipe. Chef [C=:-)]

Jeff, I like the portion control on that draft! And thanks for covering that PA train wreck, looks like quite a mess. Any idea what caused the derailment?

Just stopping in for a quick drink before heading to the LHS with the neighbors kid. He's home from school today due to the bus breaking down.

I'll take something European today.

That'll work! See ya'll later.

ONE and only ONE, Joe...Then I've got to head for town and an out-of-town swim meet.

Yesterday was "get it out of the garden" day...Today has been "do something with it now" day! Just got done cleaning / washing about 5 qts. of pearl onions. They are now bagged and in the freezer. Yes, it is most likely faster and "for sure" a whole lot easier to buy the darn things....But, what the hey!!

All week I've got major projects / demands for my time, but I've told myself that I really need to spend, at least, a little time in the Trainroom too! I hope I can actually do that!

Gotta' run!

Evening all, Joe how about a cold one over here,   Thanks.
Well it's good to be back, seems like I have been gone two months. How is everybody doing?  Had my grandmothers funeral yesterday, was about the nicest funeral I have ever been to. I was asked to be a pallbearer, and was glad to do that for her, she has done so much for me in the past 49 years.  She was ready to go home and it was time.
Spent most all afternoon at her house (which is 1 block from from here) going through the house.  How may of you know what this is?

I got this from my granny. It is an original although my dad put a radio (tube type) in it about 40 years ago.

Have a good one & thanks.                                Mike

Last call, already...."Holly Mike"....Set up the house Joe! Gotta' have one for the road.

Sorry Jeffrey, but I may have to pass on the pumkin ale. I heard it's a real nitch thing this time of year, but I've never been a fan of that sort of flavored beer stuff. Guess I like the real thing too much.

Speaking of pumkin...I'm turning into one! Got to hit the hay real soon.

Mornin,, I'll have an irish coffee Joe, if'en ya would.

Mike ,,, I remember those well and useing them even. We didn't have a phone at home, had to go up to Bakers general store or the church parsonage to call any boby. If it was an emergancy, old Riley would come down or sent one of the kids to deliever the massage.
Even knew the woman, Clara, that run the switch board from her house. If we were calling somebody from round there, all ya needed was a name.
Clarksville was kinda backwards I geuss, we had a blacksmith shop too. I miss those days

I remember Great Grandma & Pa (in southern MN) having a crank phone into the late 50's, early 60's. On the other hand Grandma & Pa (northern MN) had a rotary right from the get-go, but then again, they didn't have phone service until about 1967!

Backwards or not...I miss the seemingly simpler times of the 60's...Even the 70's for that matter. Maybe that's why the CCRY timeline is set in the early 60's!!??!! Which brings up an interesting question: How many of us model the simpler times we remember (youth / young adult)?

Having a bit of a slow start this morning, with a very late night, last night...I think Joe had to kick me out at closing!

I'm actually going to work in the Trainroom for a while today! It is an interesting scenario though....I need to get all the herbs down that have been hanging, drying in there, before any real construction can start. But, then I can lay some track!

Late night here, too.  Played our regular 2 hours of ice hockey, but for whatever reason everyone kept going for another half hour after that.  Yeah, the Zamboni driver is our friend.  We offer him a beer or two after the game, and, since we're the last group on and he gets paid by the hour, he lets us stay on the ice until we drop.  I was ready for a few, but it was so late that I only had one of my own, plus a lite someone offered me in the locker room.  Then I went home and couldn't sleep.

I've got to get back into the trainroom soon.  I've got an idea for a new way to cover up Atlas switch machines.  If it works, it will save me from having to rip up track to install below-track models.  Stay tuned.  Pixels coming soon if it works, and if I can find the camera.

Good evening all. I'll have a cold one here Joe, Yea that hits the spot.
Funny thing just happened, I went into the train room and thought I might put a few miles on the train, turned on the power and no lights, about that time SMOKE came from under the table!!!  I guess you all know what I'll be doing for a while.  I got under the table and looked and did not see any melted wires but did find one that was warm, it goes to some of my street lights..  Wish me luck unless one of you want to come help me out,  I'll buy the beer.      Mike
P.S.     See if you can find it   show us all here at the Barn how good you really are.

I'll take a Harpoon IPA and a side of nachos.  Send an order over to the young man with the duck, too, for being honest about his age.  Nice duck, David.

In my family, I've got to say Ice Hockey, to distinguish it from my daughter's fall sport, field hockey.  In another month she'll be training for winter, and skiing.  Note that we don't have to say snow skiing here in New England.  This time of year, the only way you go in the water outside is if you fall through the ice.  (No, no ice on the ponds here yet, but it won't be long.)

The experiment I'm trying with making cover-ups for those Atlas machines is to first cover the machine with plastic wrap, and then put on a cover of plaster cloth.  I've already tried this elsewhere, and the plaster cloth, once hard, will come right off the plastic wrap, leaving a thin but firm shell.  I can still cut it with scissors, and then I'll paint it and add some foliage or rocks.  We'll see how it looks in a couple of days.

I see the problem, all right.  You've got all kinds of wires under there, all nicely twisted together at the ends, some maybe even soldered.  But, there's no insulation on any of the splices, so sooner or later, two of those wires are going to touch.  You might be treated to a Star Trek console light-show, or you might brown-out your neighborhood.  Or, you might seriously fry some valuable part of your layout.

Seriously, I wouldn't leave the room without pulling the plug on the layout.  Actually, I don't leave my own train room without flipping off the power, because the underside of my layout looks just like yours.

Joe, another round for me and Mike.  And a couple of rolls of electrical tape.

OKay,,,,, I know I need to do a lot of rewiring, as far as the smoke, I fried a wall wart and maybe the PC power supply.  The system the train runs on is A OK.   Maybe a few GOW bulbs bit the dust.
     I'll keep posted.

Mr. B,  Thanks for the cold one here

Mike: I can see your problem clearly...It's one of those green or yellow wires! Wait a minute, where are my glasses? Joe, I need a cold one too! That's better..Now with a brighter light...Yup-Yup, it's a green or a yellow!! Maybe both!

I'll post a pic (upcoming) of my biggest "rat's nest" all red and white, just to prove that we're all on the same page and in this together!

Actually Mike, I'd love to help out...If I leave now...I should be at your place in about 20 hours...Keep the beer cold!! Hi-Oh-Silver..Away!!

The way I see it, at the very least, it wasn't /isn't magic smoke! That's the stuff that leaks out of high tech electronic (some being very expensive) equipment. All kidding aside and in all honesty; I'm with Mr. B. Turn it off, unplug it, pull the fuse or flip the breaker....No point in burning any part of the pike, let alone the entire place down!!

I had a fire at my cabin a couple of years ago...The scariest damn thing I've ever had to deal with and I pray that I will NEVER experience that sort of thing again!

Mr. B: Your idea for the "scenicing" of the turnout solenoid sounds like it should work very well. I have also seen trackside sheds with a deck (speeder shed) that did a nice job of cameo. One would think the possibilities are limitless....

OK, here we go..."Power Management 101" at the CCRY.

It's simple...Just trace out the red and white wires for the power districts in question. Oh no, hang on here! There are other colors too...Light blue goes to gray...or is that yellow...wait, maybe both! Can that be? Just another minute here! What's this? A black wire! What's that black wire?  Where does it go..and for what purpose? And then there's dark blue and red? Where the heck are those two wires going? Are they the same as the red and white? Wait a minute...again. Was that questioning the dark blue and red or the light blue and what was that color? Maybe the gray and yellow? Again, I've got to ask...What's that black wire?

Well....One thing for sure, green is ground....I think!

I sure hope that when I'm dead and gone from life as we know it....Someone else will be able to figure out this "color code" thing going here at the CCRY!

Joe, set another round...After re-thinking all of what I just said...I'm thinking I may have too much blood in my alcohol stream!
