Just to jump in on the Fat Tire thing real quick, that stuff is like water here (I live in CO). I haven't come across a New Belguim brew that I don't like, yet. They are always releasing some kind of different suds. I have been all over the US and have come to really like Colorado for their beers.

   5:00 o'clock and I'm thiristy.  Anyone care to join me, I think maybe inch will buy tonight.   
   Went to Wally World today and got some more patches, been nearly 2 weeks and no cigs.  I am proud of myself if I can Brag just a little.                          
     I also bought a 50 foot plug door boxcar in SF colors from....believe it or not    Hobby Lobby.  They have a pretty good selection of rolling stock in HO and N. All are the Bachmann Silver series, which is what I prefer to run, they are better than any of the Atherns or the Walthers that I have. The Bachmann Silver Series all have metal wheels and brass axles with Acu-mate couplers. I have not had much trouble with them as long as the tiny spring is in there and I haven't droped it and broke the coupler.  I got the boxcar for $11.99, which is about what I have been giving for them on line. Hobby Lobby also has a diesent supply of Bachmann Locos, They haven't had ahy rolling stock and a very limited supply of locos(always Model Power) befor.   Well I am tired of typing and I think Mike needs a beer.     Later,    Mike

   I have downloaded one befor and used it there,  I might get one when they are available again. The Bachmann Diesel is a GP40 I think I have one that is one of the most dependable locos I have although it is not mugh at slow speeds, But it does pull 18 cars up the mountain without any trouble. Hobby Lobby has them for I believe $35.00 and 40% off will make it arounf $21.00, I will give $21.00 for another one, If nothing elece for spair parts.     Mike

Mike, I have a Bachmann GP40 that I bought in Germany almost 30 years ago. It's the most dependable Bachmann I have. I paid $17 (44 marks) for it new.

As for here; "Gourmet Meals" fit to be served on the rails has merit...I know that the CCRY "Night Owl", nightly from Duluth to Ely serves some mighty fine fixing's! And has a lively "Club Car" too!

 

Ironic that you are heading for Hilton Head...One of the soups I was thinking about when I had said I have "Gumbos and Almost Gumbos" is a spin on a recipe from across the Port Royal Sound on St. Helena! This really is a small world.

 

BTW, I get my Fat Tire either when in KC (they also have Boulevard Brewing Co., which is some mighty fine brew) or when I'm down in TX.

I tried to get me a bottle of Boones Farm Country Kwencher, but no luck, had to settle for BF's Melon Ball.  Was sceptical, but was pleasantly surprised!  Boones make good product and I may make another wine run when the store opens.  I have to  live up to  my alter ego that the wife affectionately  calls Wally The Wino after finding  me asleep in the bathtub  full  of cold water ans a ip lef in my 6th bottle of the night.  I can't/don't do that much now days. a bottle or 2 flushes out the kidneys.  Heck, the eagle flies Wednesday(ss check),  I'll buy the house a round.                   Tweet

Just a coffee ad a couple slices of toast for me this morning. Wouldn't want to mess up this girlish figure. Not sure what to do today. Suppose I should check my calender see if there is a show or open house to go to. Or I could work on the house. Or I could do nothing for a change. Afterall it has been a extremely challanging week. "Challenging" is code for a very, very screwed up week and besides it is a little bit more appropriate to say in polite society.

Just got myself a Photobucket account, so with any luck I will be able to post pictures and/or sketches.

Anyways, got to go for now. Will check back in later and perhaps have a drink or two when it is a little closer to noon. Although, whe you think about it, it has to be noon somewhere.

Afternoon all.. Well, here it 5 o'clock and I'm thiristy again.   Joe how about a cold Busch for me and a round for whoever wants one.    I hope everyone had a good day, hopefully you got some work done on the RR, or maybe even some miles on your train.
     I spent most of the day working on the Coleman Fuel & Oil Co. I got the parking lot all paved using Bob Grech's (SP)  method with the Durams water putty, with the exception I mixed some paint together to make a concrete color and mixed in the water putty, I just put on the final coat (I hope) and will let it dry til tommarrow and will sand it smoothe and put in the saw joints. I guess I will have to wait til the AM to see how it turns out.

   I am still waiting on the windows for the building, I ordered them from Tichy Train Group.I have never ordered from them and do not know how long it will take, any idea?

I've been in Duluth all day (left home at 0630 and just got home a bit ago) officiating  a Section True Team swimming and diving meet...No trains, no work in the yard, no work in the house...Just working at the pool.

 

Tomorrow I spend time celebrating with my brother, it's his birthday and the whole clan will try for the get together!

Been out rebuilding a bunch of old computers today, talking about taking a big step into the past! These were Apples, IBM's, Tandy's and the odd Commodore.

These are the two oldest ones I worked on.

That's an Osborne System 1.

And that's an Apple IIe. I have one in my closet that still works and has everything but the printer.

   Hay jeffrey, how's it going? Been working on the RR today, trying to get the parking lot paved. I think I am about there, Just letting the paint dry. The paint is drying very slow today, we got over 3'' of rain last night and expecting maybe a couple more by noon tomarrow. 
   Good to see you can work on computers, wish you were here, maybe you could fix my lap top, It won't start up.    What's the point of working on the old computers, are they worth anything or just for fun.      Mike

In the case of the one's I worked on today, they're for a school demonstration, showing the advancements in computers and how far they've come. The oldest computer I've ever worked on was a Honeywell Norman. I don't know what year it was built but I'd have to say around late 60's. It was originally paper-tape feed but was converted to 70mm magnetic tape in the late 70's. It had a gigantic memory for it's time, a whole 300 bits. The main processor unit weighed about 3 tons and the tape drive weighed around half a ton by itself. The keyboard had 40 someodd keys and was about twice the size of a modern keyboard. It was a very powerful computer for it's day.

Well, I made it to Hilton Head, and I can't believe it, but the place I am staying has a wireless router and high speed dsl installed, all wide open.  Woo Hoo!  Now I can check my email at work tomorrow. . . NOT!  But I will check in here.  Lessee, where to begin.  I had the BIL and SIL, their two kids and cat on Thursday and Friday of last week.  The cat is still there (with the wife, so it falls into the categoory of not my problem) but everyone else is gone.  Great weather here in HHI today; it got up to 80 degrees; I spent all day riding a bicycle (think I did about 20 miles and my butt really hurts).  Tomorrows going to be real nice as well.

Mike, two weeks!  Great work.  I quit and the first two weeks were the worst, I made it two more weeks, then fell off the wagon.  I keep telling myself that I am not a quitter!

Colvin, like the idea.  I like eating, especially good food, so that is a great thought.  Count me in.  Yeah it is a small world.  I guess Tx would be the closest place for me to get Fat Tire as well; not sure I would ever drive 2233 miles for beer!

Inch, how dare you mention the "L" word!  I have that to look forward to now as well.  Maybe the wife will take care of it for me while I'm gone, and the mowing, and wash the car. . .  A guy can dream can't he?

Jeffrey, talk about Mr. Peabody and the Way Back Machine.  It's been awhile since I've seen those things.  It's nice to see someone who is willing to keep the past alive.

     Evening all, Joe, I'll a cold one here.   Been working on Coleman Fuel today, finally got the parking lot paved and the chainlink fence up. will be putting in the windows in the structure as soon as they come in.  Here are a few pics. 



    I am not sure what I am going to do with the building as far as painting it or brick or rock. Might rock it up about 1/3 and paint the rest. and not sure about the roof either, Cambells shingles sounds good but $20.00 for the roof sounds a little much. A round for the gang, since I've been away drinkin' by myself this weekend.  Not alone, but the wife didn't bring any wine, the daughter's too young, and the in-laws did a lifetime of drinking in about 10 years, and now they've got to lay off for the time they've got left.  All things in moderation, I say.

My Walthers Interstate Fuel and Oil Company arrived, so now I've got something else to paint and put together.  My space is a bit smaller than what they intended, so I've got some re-arranging to do. I'll probably use some of my large collection of left-over sprues from previous kits to extend the pipelines a bit, and stretch the whole thing across the tracks.  I've got some chain-link fence on order, too.  Mike's got me inspired there, but I'm not quite ready to scratch something like that yet.

I did get to at least hear a diesel whistle over the weekend, somewhere around Norway, Maine, and I watched a video on public TV which showed a cab view of a train in Wells, Maine.
