New product use

For years while traveling the world I would buy items for "future" use. Built several small layouts and modules, but never really enough room for layout. Have now settled in one place and find I have way to much to use. But am building a layout that will be big enough to play with several of them. It is supposed to be fun, isn't it? Al

I'm a moduler railroader so sometimes it sits for a while and some get build right away and used and then get put up to make way for neww stuff.

[:D]I know what you mean. I'm 44 years ld, don't have a job due to a disability, hardly any freinds, hardly any responsobilities, so I can stay up late, and sleep in. (though I ussaully don't). And, I'm not married (and don't want to get married)
The only down side is, I can't drive.[:(!][:(!]

Most of the old train guys I know have enough unbuilt kits "in stock" to open small hobby shops. When I saw this I vowed I would never be like that.... Now I have about 40 unbuilt car kits and about 25 structures (four storage boxes). Guess I slipped a little.

I found when I was building my last layout I was building mostly structures. As the layout matured, the focus shifted to cars and finescale structures and details. I am starting a new layout so I will try to balance a little more between the two. I also have fallen prey to the "buy it now because it may not be available later" syndrome. This line of thinking has expanded the collection of un-built kits dramatically.

As my layout's only a 8 x 1 portable effort at the moment, most of my stock gets assembled, run in on an oval test track (in the case of locos), and is then either packed away or put on a shelf.

I assemble all of my kits right away so I do not get a backlog of kits to be build..I hate to see a stack of kits waiting to be built.You see to my mind I got the kit for use and not to put in a stack of kits to be built at a later date..After all it is needed you see that is why I bought it in the first place.

I buy it if I think it fits what i'm trying to portray. There are just too many choices out there these days, you could go broke just trying to keep up with the manufacturers, but as usual they seem to entice a purchase many times a year. The other issue is that the quality is vastly improved over the older stuff in my collection so I'm constantly thinning the older herd and replacing with the new and more detailed (more pricey) stuff.
