Maybe you should tell that to AirTran Airlines..... When Bud did the "Mr. Discount Airline Pilot Guy" spot, AirTran had the Federal government all over AB. Even though AB pulled the ad, there are numerous lawsuits still pending.

I just listened to the radio spot and laughed so hard it brought tears to my eyes. My wife always did call me a genius, so now I guess I have a theme song - works for me.

That one has been around a while. I think it was meant to be a radio spot only, so the video is NOT from AB. Someone else, perhaps a disgruntled modeler, made it to lampoon the commercial.

I’m actually quite surprised so many people here liked it. I usually love a witty sarcastic commercial, and I don’t mind a little fun being poked at us, but I found this one over the top for my tastes. Maybe I’m just not a fan of offensive humor, but I wonder if most here realize that the advertisers just lit us up to sell some beer. Oh, but for a few laughs it was worth it – right? [B)]

No doubt you'll get lots of responses suggesting you "lighten up", or some other such specious twaddle. I'm with you - I thought it was pretty ordinary. But then, I think that Budweiser is very ordinary, so no surprises there.

Seriously people call off your dogs, it's a joke. I thought the commercial was funny more than anything else. Learn to lighten up. No wonder people think model railroaders are a bunch of anal retentive neurotics.

That would be 'cookoo for choo choos' and the second 'jerk' - not 'anal retentive neurotics. Get it right! [:D][;)]

I suppose the executives at AB figure the commercial will get laughs and sell beer. They aren't worried about offending model railroaders, because (in their estimation) there aren't enough of us to matter. Besides, most of us are well above average intelligence, and we can see the joke and laugh at it, and at ourselves.

For sure, though, you won't see them saying "Look at the 25,000 clowns sitting in the hot sun watching NASCAR autos run round-and-round a little track, over and over again for 500 miles." That would be marketing suicide.

Note, of course, my derogatory reference to "round-and-round." Anyone knows that the only true kind of auto racing is drag racing, which is point-to-point like "real" car trips. [:D]

You thought it was funny. Others didn't. Learn that humour is subjective.

What if the Pope was one of us? If he was, and heard the spot, would he get pissed? Have you ever laughed when watching a show were some one or an animal walks through wet concrete or ruins a paint job after a worker got looking perfect? Most aircraft mechanics have been cast as being not that smart ore a bit nuts. Humour is allways at the expence of some one or some thing and I dare anyone who was offended to post a reply when it isn't. So if you were offended, learn to laugh at your self or don't laugh at any thing or you are a hypocrite. If you don't like people laughing at a certain stereotype make your best effort to prove to them their ideas enforcing that stereotype are misguided. Or maybe you are the one that is reinforcing that stereotype. Have you ever heard that if you throw a stone blindedly into a pen full of dogs the one who yelps is usualy the one who got struck?
Enough of this Dr. Phil B.S.! I have to go share the sound bite with a Priest, a Rabi and some one who is a dyslexic agnostic insomniac down at the bar.

While I have enjoyed the AB “Real Men of Genius” radio spot ads over the years they are what they are. Stupidly funny comical satirical radio spots geared toward the clientele that buy their brewed product. I personally never buy the AB products and prefer import brews over their watered down stuff, but that is my personal taste.

As far as the model railroader spot, I thought it was funny and do not take offense to it. Laughter is great therapy and a sense of humor goes a long way to getting yourself through in life!

IMHO if you can't laugh at yourself sometimes you are just to serious, then it is time to take a break and enjoy the short time you have on this great place we call planet Earth!

Maybe it’s time to hoist one of those brewed ales that the radio spot is really trying to get you to buy anyway!

And offer a round of cheers to all the great model railroaders out there, even the ones who prefer a good pinot noir over the AB brew! Here’s to all the model railroaders the world over, cheers!!!!

I cannot remember the name of the comedian who said it years ago, but one of his quotes was: "Life..... live it!"

You may be on to something here...... Just imagine a good spoofer doing these commericals using NASCAR fans as the object. It would probably cost AB twice as much money as the commercials themselves to repair the damage.

The best part...... if done correctly ..... spoofs are protected against copyright violations!! The reason SNL has never been sued for the stuff they do.

OBTW, these commercials don't offend me. But, I have never really liked them either. From the first one I heard until now, I don't see the point in putting down certain groups of people. It may not harm AB because the groups they take aim at are marginalized but such a campaign is always one commercial away from crossing the line.

Wow, I had no idea the hit list was that extensive (as of 2004).

But I missed the ‘Mr. big beer gut guy who lounges all afternoon watching sports on TV.’

...Oh, wait a minute! That would be their target demographic! Silly me. [:-,]

Actually that would not be their demographic because "Beer Gut Guys" don't drink "lite" beer. And these commericals never run on TV only radio.

It is the most interesting Ad campaign. The campaign has run for over three years. It must be effective or AB would have pitched it.

Actually I may change a town name to Nutsville just for fun. I still laugh at it. Humor is humor. Of course I'm a sarcastic s*b anyway. Over on the other thread the coors train derails the bud car. I love it.
