I don't know why we buy so many locos, knowing many will only see limted service.

Its that they are all unique for me. The one thing I won't do is buy two of the same thing in the same scheme

I guess my reason for model railroading all these years has been in the wrong direction, what I should have been doing is collecting locomotives, where did I go wrong? I'm sorry folks, what could a person possibly do with the amount of engines some purport to have. This subject comes up 2 or 3 times a year and it boggles my mind (and a few others) that people really do have that many engines (to each his own) Is this normal, do people in other hobbies hoard also? do people have 50 - 75 motorcycles? 200 ferrari's? how about 46 sets of golf clubs or 200 fishing rods, maybe they do. Just mention to someone that you are a model railroader and then tell them you have 25,50 80,125 locomotives and watch the reaction, this is still a great mystery to me, now I will wait for the justification and I'll be no further ahead--easy now --just a comment.

After hearing from my loving bride yet again about how much train stuff I have sitting in boxes that haven't been opened in years and the status of our bank account, I have set limits on myself.

Since I'm a lone wolf who moves frequently and hand-lay my track, my layout will never be large or complex, even if I had the space. And I prefer to build my locos from kits (as long as I have 1 to run at all times). So I have agreed to a reasonable limit of 5 locos for HO and 3 for HOn3, with another 2 possible for display (my Dad's gifts from his more modern steam collection). When I am at the limit, I must sell one to acquire another one.

I am weeding out my stuff that no longer matches my desires as to era, size, region, and workmanship. What is reasonably nice will go to EBay along with my Dad's collection, the "junk" will be a give-away or packaged with the auction winner's package.

Keeps the peace, and keeps costs and storage reasonable.

yours in peace keeping

I just cracked the 10 barrier, but I have only just started. All N scale,

3 GP38
1 F7
1 0-6-0 slant tender steamer

3 Briti***anks

4 German era-3 steamers

As you can guess I am not sure what my focus is going to be yet! The BR tanks run on my daughters layout.

I know its well over a 100! Have been collecting them for years, allot of old Athearn that are still in ther original boxes, the rubber band drive ones, about 20 or so of the Bachmann heavy diecast GP and F3 from the 70's, about 15 to 20 AHM staem, 15 or so MDC kits that I built. Wait a minute! To many! I need to get rid of some of these! Shelves are getting full, and what the hell am I going to do with all these? I run Mostly Proto now and the Athearn BB.
