Z is my primary scale but I have to keep up with N and HO as well. We manufacture products for all three scales so testing and photographing items for all of them is important to us. Z has freed up my limited space so that I can build a large RR empire. N scale now has some beautiful steam locos available at reasonable prices and HO is wonderful for close examination of details. I'm going to have three layouts eventually. A small switching layout in HO; a larger roundabout layout for N scale; A real empire for Z scale. I enjoy them all!

If I had the money and the room, I would model HO, so I'm squeezing as much N guage as I can in the space that I have. The larger the scale, the more presence the models have, just like the prototypes. P.S. I wi***here were more steam locos available in N.

The pole results must be scewed. 23% in Z scale? Can't even find this stuff around here. At the Toronto Model Railway Show you will usually see not even one layout. Really wish I could have gone with HO but space doesn't permit the kind of layout I wanted to portray. The obvious choice for me was "N". Am modelling Canadian National and a little Ontario Northland on a freelance layout. Have done quite well finding stuff at railroad flee markets and a local hobby shop closure. Got a used MRC dual throttle powerpack for $15. :-)
Now have about 23 engines and lots of rolling stock. Summary: Z scale is just too damned small!

You must have missed me at the TMRS in 2002 and the TXmasShow in 2001. I had the Val Ease Central RR running for the crowds. Until my appearance at these events there had been no Z and, from what I here, there has not been any since I left TO for Montreal. Too bad, though. The crowds love seeing Z. Yes it is small. But miniaturization presents a challenge to many hobbyists. The appeal of Z is often expressed in terms of cuteness, scratch-building challenge, doing more with less etc.

The scale is growing in popularity although I think that my colleagues have skewed the poll results just a tad with their enthusiastic support for this poll. God bless 'em!

Too bad the NMRA cancelled the National Train Show in TO this summer. There were 3 prize-winning Z layouts registered. :-(

MTL has released an F7 in CP colours. Rumours are flying that there will be Canadian motive power available shortly.

I model Z scale because it seems more realistic to me. Ask yourself how often are you really close to an actual prototype and how often do look on from a distance. Also, I can get a lot more operations in a smaller space with much, much less scale compression. I started with HO as a kid and considered N when I got back into the hobby a few years ago, but now even N scale looks too big to me.

And the best part, the Z scale community has been much more supportive than any other I've had experiece with.

Started out with HO a s kid. When my first son was born I bought N to start him off. I wanted to take advantage of the N scale vistas I had tried to replicate in HO. maybe I will go back to HO when space permits.

If you have the room for a prototypical HO layout, then I would say you're better off to model in HO. Simply because there is is a greater amount of scenery details available in HO scale. N scalers have to create much of their scenery details by scratch.

If, however, space is a limiting factor, I would definitely gravitate toward N scale. I prefer N scale because I can model a geographical area much better in an apartment than I could an HO layout. Size is the biggest issue. If all you can model is an oval layout in HO, then your layout will become awfully boring awfully fast.

The detailing in the rolling stock and locomotives I feel far exceeds what is commonly seen in HO. There is quite a selection of rolling stock and locomotives available in N scale.

Always been a H.O.scale modeler just looked better to me also easy to work on N scale is to small for me.Never much cared for O,S,& G scale.There are some nice layouts in those scales maybe I'am just OLD SCHOOL.
