I didn't get a chance to vote on this one but I'm so glad that N is edging up to within 2% of Horribly Oversized - contrary to what the site owners claim!!!! Hurray for Normal scale - the best amongst equals.

I enjoy the hobby and also enjoy modeling short line railroads, there are a lot of good models and also detail parts available for the modeler to make his models as close to the real once as possible.

Actually, I think it's the NMRA and the MRIA who claim that, based on sales.

Online, N scalers seem to be of equal number to HO scalers. Among modellers I know, the average age of N scalers is lower than for HO scalers, so I'd guess that this plays into online representation, since by and large, the net is populated by the younger set.

Not that N scale isn't a good medium, just that HO does still outnumber N. Given a chance, we'd all model in 12" to the foot anyway...[;)]

O, 3 rail hi rail. Yep one of those guys. I realize putting this on the Model Railroader Forum is probably bad manners. Sorry. No offense intended. I'm not out to get any verbal brickbats tossed at me. Just wanted to say that I suspect a great many hi railers subscribe to MR and look forward to reading it each month. Even though there are specialty 3 rail publications out there, none really appeal to me the way MR does. I've gotten more ideas and tips from MR than anywhere else. In fact, My 3 rail layout is based to a degree on Bill Aldridge's New Haven HO pike featured in MR some time ago. Truth is, if I didn't have so much invested in 3 rail I'd probably look at S. HO is too small for me. That's it. I'll go back where i belong. John Harding

I started in S back in the 50's. Went to european HO in the 70's and am presently involved mostly with G scale. Still have all of my trains from all the years and as others I know am planning a layout when the kids move out, if they ever do. My G scale is a traveling show with a car load of track and rolling stock that I take to train shows and many public service shows at nursing homes, childrens hospitals etc. They all seems to enjoy the G the best even though the S has an actual modular layout that moves from show to show also. It is a great hobby and as my wife would say, way of life for a retiree as I am gone running trains a lot of the time. I belong to 4 different railroad clubs and keep fairly busy with meetings, monthly runs and show runs etc. Get a hobby like this and live a whole lot longer because you don't have time to worry about getting sick, so you don't.

Agreed - I also subscribe to MR even though I model O (and subscribe to the O speciality mags). MR is a great publication.

I have plenty of room for O (30' by 18'), and can double that some day. But even that much room seems confining for O. I also envy HO for their large selection, especially structures. Interesting that N scalers share that envy!

I had "O" growing up then I bought my boys an HO set .I put it away in 1983 and run across it last year.I didnt have the room for it so I am doing N scale . But I found a unpassable deal on a new K-Line Steamer and Passenger set in "O". Aw the found memorys as I set the train up for a trial run on the den floor .As a child I used to lay my head on the floor close to the track and watch the train go by, the same as I did that day . The things that I remembered , I would have spent 10 times the amount.
