Like I said, probably skewed by the fact that the average age of the internet user is on the low side, so it's mor elikely that younger modelers would be here. But it's good to see younger people still in the hobby. It WILL still be around for a long time.

In Europe (Germany+Switzerland) they did a similar poll/market study but on professional basis (paid by a lobby of rr modeling related producers and specialized press).

It came out that the internet responses gave a significant lower average age that the traditional 'response card' in printed RR magazine.

Total Average Age: 49.5 years

Im 14 and just starting the hobby.
Ive got 2 geared steam engines, a 3 truck Shay and a 2 truck class b Climax
dont have no benchwork, or even a plan, the latter of which is in development
but Im happy[:)]

51yrs old/young. 6kids (3boys-3girls) 12Gkids, 1GGkid and 2 on the way. The 3 boys haven't even started yet. After reading this let me change the age 151yrs[censored]

I'm 21. I've always liked trains since I was little, and have built a few small dioramas based around trains. I had a train set 5 or 6 years back, but didnt have the space or money for a layout.

Just yesterday I bought a train set to start my first running layout, which will have to be pretty small at around 4' by 7'. I'm sure it will be pretty basic, but it'll be good to get a start and some experience in building a layout myself.

nharrison21 hey don't worry about being young. At least you can learn from our mistakes and have ahead start we never had. The internet only just started for most of us. So you have an advantage we never even dreamed of when your age.
