I guess I'm more interested in class II RRs. I think they're more interesting! My favorites are the ELGIN, JOLIET & EASTERN RAILWAY and the IOWA-MINNESOTA RAIL LINK [now IOWA, CHICAGO & EASTERN]

It would be the CS&SB. The South Shore was not appreciated by me until 30 years after my first ride. We used to call it the Vomit Comet because on blinding winter storm days, if a car hadn'nt been cleaned well and the heat was on, well, it just wasn't very nice. So why a fave? Because going by the shops in Mich City and seeing the Joe there, Because it wasn't diesel, because it had funky and really cool old cars (when the weather was good), Because it was Americana, and because there ain't much like these kinds of roads left in the country and when they are all gone you will have really missed something.

I voted for UP which is my second favorite. Number one is the V&T RR but it was not on the list and voting "other" just did not get it for me.

Back in the states my favorite has to be the former NYC, but i have been stationed in Germany for the last four years and the DB of Germany has gotten alot of my attention, for the fact that you will see all kinds of traffic on the main line from local commuter to the ICE, and all sorts of frieght traffic, powered by both electric and diesels. The DB is a blast to model.

Big Boy and Challenger all the way! Nothing is better than a mamouth steamer, and the UP proved that!
