I've been interested in SP since I was a kid, and that's what I saw scooting around Sacramento and Roseville growing up, so they're kind of a historical first choice, though recently I've gotten very into Sacramento Northern, and with it Western Pacific and other central California short lines.

My favorite rail road is the fallen flag, Great Northern. I love their logo "Rocky". I also have Burlington Norther and BNSF.

For my money, it's the WESTERN MARYLAND for me!
Fireball or SPEED lettered, either way. Circus paint looks ok on a cab unit, but even I'll admit, it's ugly on a hood unit![:D]

Any modern shortline gets my vote, though I do miss the Katy and the Cotton Belt.

Great Northern in the early to mid '50s. They even went down through Oregon into California to an interchange with Western Pacific at Beiber.

THE Rio GRANDE!! running a close second would be the UTAH RAILWAY. There just isn't anything to compare with Real mountain railroading.

I prefer the Franklin, Ashton, Korinth & Empire. Ran from a connection with the Camas Prairie at Headquarters, ID to a connection with the Milwaukee Road at Deer Lodge, MT.
Operations ceased in 1958.
