I was a big Santa Fe fan but then I couldn't Bare to look at those ugly BNSF units.
Then I was looking at the Cotton Belt, KCS, and UP.

Delaware & Hudson, although the hobby manufacturers more or less completely ignore it, with the possible exception of Kadee and their boxcars.

Even though I didn't live in the eastern part of the United States, I always thought the Northfork Southern Railway as one of my favorites. But does anybody know what happend to CONRAIL? If you know tell me.

Conrail was split up between CSX and NS a few years ago.

I agree with others, CN and CP should have been added as they are still active class one railroads through out North America, and I know CN is trying to get into Mexico.

Got a couple favourites.

The original Kettle Valley RR (Prior to CP amalgamation)
T&NO/Ontario Northland
Montana Rail Link (What beautiful Scenery)
Okanagan Valley RR, although they've retired their gorgeous GP10's (Best Livery I've seen in a while)

I'm also a fan of CN, especially the Yellow & Green Livery.

At a model train show a modeler ask me what my favorite railroad and I said Santa Fe and he said anything but UP. He said that they are power hungry and had merged with about everybody. He look over to his friends who could only agree. And so do I, they took away the Southern Pacific and one of my favorites the MKT or KATY railway, but thats already over and done with. Oh well, I'll live.

I've gotta agree with RSN48.
CP and CN are huge class 1 railroads, and should have been included.
I'm a CP fan - There's nothing quite like seeing a fleet of huge bright red SD90's waiting for train assignments in the yard, or watching them pull unit trains through the Rocky Mountains!

Bryan, the name of the railroad you're thinking of is NORFOLK SOUTHERN for the city of Norfolk, Virginia, there's no "Northfork" involved. BTW, it's roundly hated by its union employees and greatly disliked by shippers for its "take it or leave it" attitude. Conrail was split up 58 percent to the NS and 42 percent to CSX effective June 1, 1999. [:0][B)]

Bryan, the most likely candidate to take over BC Rail has been CN, but nothing has been resolved yet.

No, because the Province of British Columbia, which presently owns it, has not firmly decided to sell it. It has only asked for proposals and has received same, in varying specifics and degrees of interest, from CN, CP, BNSF, and Omnitrax. So, it's like this year's World Series, you might know who's most likely to win, but no one knows for a fact because it hasn't happened yet!

Well, I threw my hat in on the BN. Tis the closest to 'Rocky', and I have always been a big fan on GN, and to a lesser extent the NP.

Some people like the big time railroading, but I myself like the old shortlines and local railroads. But don't get me wrong I do like the big railroads. One of them is the Rio Grande. Is anyone a fan of the Cotton Belt because thats my alltime favorite railroad.
