QUOTE: Originally posted by Tracklayer I was told today by a girl that I've been interested in for a while now that model railroading was one of the most boring hobbies on earth, and that we (model railroaders) go to so much trouble and expense just so we can sit and watch our trains go around and around the track... She said she could think of a lot of better ways to spend her time (yea, like at the mall blowing money shopping!...). She doesn't like my dogs, guns or the Three Stooges either... I just wonder what kind of guy she's looking for - if a guy at all... (Sorry, but I couldn't resist saying that.) It's too bad though because she's really cute. Oh well. There's plenty more fish in the sea. Tracklayer

If she isn't, she might think she can change you, and in the end either you change and give up those things, or you end of going your separate ways. Eitherway it's a bad ending. Trevor

Oh boy, hard to say with conviction but based on my past experiences, I hate to say but I dont think she's gonna change for anyone in anyway whatsoever. Doesnt like ANY of your interests ? Very bad... It will end one of two ways, she dumps you because of your boring hobbies...or you will have to dump every interest you have and only do things she approves of....now who will be bored out of their minds, eh? Think about it... I see little chance to find a balance here if she's as one sided as it sounds. I've been down a road like this in the deep dark past, if she's not tolerent of your interests now, she never will be. I'm really surprised though that she doesnt consider your hobby a possible bridge to help with connecting with her kids, thats another big warning sign if she hasnt considered letting her kids get involved if they wanted to. My wife has been tolerent of my hobbies, and PS, she doesnt care for the 3 stooges either but at least she doesnt mind me watching them. Doesnt like dogs? Sheeesh![V] PS PS just read the "dad" thing, Oh boy that really screws you...that really torpedoes keeping your hobby in any kind of relationship. I've got another one for you vsmith. About eleven years ago, I met a girl that had moved down here to Texas from Queens New York. We hit it off great at first, then the next thing you know she starts picking me to pieces. First she didn't like the fact that I drove a Chevy truck instead of a luxury car, then she didn't like the idea that I had such a large gun collection, then she didn't like any of the movies or anything I liked. Finally one day the spit hit the fan and we had it out, and when all was said and done, I not only found out that she didn't like anything about me, but had been seeing another guy behind my back and was pregnant by him... This girl that I was talking about that made me so mad today reminds me so much of that little witch it's not even funny. And by the way, the one from NY had two kids also, and didn't want them getting into "my dead end hobbies"... I really have the luck with women don't I... Tracklayer

I met Kimberly when I would go through the "drive through" to make deposits and cash checks there at the bank where she works. It started out with us flirting back and forth until one day we were talking and she said she hadn't been out to eat and to a movie in a long time, and gave me that look like - well, are you going to ask me out or not ?..., so of course I did (bad mistake!). She was nice at first, but then the more I got to know her the less I liked her. It finally got to where all we did was pick on each other and see who could run each other down the most. Since the other day when I wrote this topic, we've had serious words, and I doubt we'll be seeing each other anymore which is just fine with me. I'm not perfect, but she's a super b***h if there ever was one... She's stuck on herself and thinks because she's attractive that she should be worshipped by guys like some kind of goddess and treated like royalty - literally!. Oh well. I kind of figured she was that way in the back of my mind, and from now on will stick with the better class of females like I should have in the first place. Tracklayer

QUOTE: Originally posted by jfugate I just want to add to the posts that say it's possible to find a good woman if you are willing to take your time looking and you look in the right places (found mine in church). We're going on 31 years of marriage now and going in my wife knew all about the trains and we even railfanned some while courting. Although she's not model railroader as such, she likes going to conventions with me and has learned enough about the hobby that I can ask her opinion on something and it will be as good as any modeler's opinion. Her favorite part of the hobby is scenery and she's even helped me build scenery over the years. But it's a two way street. I try to learn about the hobbies that interest her and share in her interests too. As for the money issue, I learned early in our marriage that if she handled the money things would be more peaceful in the household. We both agree on the budget each payday, and the budget includes a "mad money" allotment for each of us that we can use any way we like, no questions asked. You need a woman who recoginizes the value of the hobby to your own well being. When I get cranky, my wife tells me: "I think you need to go work on your trains for a while ...". And she's right. I'm generally in a much better mood after doing trains. [swg]

Tracklayer Dude, you got to treat them like royalty. I wouldn't have my boat, ATV's, my Trans Am, fly in fishing trips with the guys, hunting trips or even my trains if I didn't worship the ground my wife walked on. Its kinda like a two way street, I get to do what ever I want just as long as she knows that if something comes up that she wants to do I'm there, no questions asked. Little things like opening doors, sitting her at a table or rubbing her back after a long day at work really do go far.

I'm not saying you were wrong to dump this queen, but at some point, you may have to give-in one time more than you think you can stomach in order for her to feel that she really has your commitment.
