Posted some of these last month on a similar topic, but...[;)]

A couple examples, top is a kitbash large scale railbus, lightly weathered.
middle is a LGB Porter, medium weathered
lower middll eis a large scale coaling tower bashed off a Bachmann O scale Plasticville tower, heavily weathered
Bottom is a kitbashed fuel stand from an HLW tank car, LGB piers, and bits of junk...[:D]

   Have fun with your trains

Vic-
Every time I see the "vsmith" I think of Michael Vick[%-)]...Weird. Anyway, I love the locomotive with Wallace hanging out of it! And the oil tank is awesome as well. The other two are great, but those particular two just struck me.

Very nice Todd [tup] Very convincing. I am a big believer in less is more. The dusting is great. Any tips or how you did that car?

Thanks David and uspscsx, I use PollyScale paints thinned with alcohol. My favorite colors are Railroad Tie Brown and Grimy Black. I add Rust and/or Grimy Black to the RTB for variations. As for the dusty look, I use Mike Rose's technique of applying Dullcote to the model first. This causes a whitesh fadeing look that is reversible. Mike Rose did an article in MRC a while back.
Basically the first thing you do is Dullcote the model, then you apply your wash. I take a meduim sized brush and and go around the car vertically streaking a good coat of your thinned wash. As your wash dries you will get a faded, dusty effect. On certain colored models the effect might be too much, if you don't like it you you can respray the Dullcote and it will disappear.
I like build up my weathering with serveral applications of very thin washes. You can use "less" thinned washes to highlight rusty areas or to dirty up trucks.
Thats how I weather freight cars, and they usually turn out decent. I'm still learning and that makes it fun.

yeah we do need a weathering forum, " hint hint trains.com" and stickies" HINT HINT!" so people like me could find those great tip/how to posts that that are lost and seem impossible to find after a few days, instead of every new person like my self asking the same question over and over again multiple times.

In my ongoing attempts to weather more subtle, this is my latest. It was done with powders, mainly powder washes. (Powder and hairspray...pump-type.)

Enjoy.

I feel totally out of place posting on this thread, based on the quality work that has already been displayed, but you asked for it. Here is one of my UP SD90/43MACs. Just keep in mind this is the first ( and so far, only ) loco. that I have ever weathered, so be gentle. [:p]
