Sweet! What brand models to you like to start with? (kit or RTR?) Do you add details or just weathers them? You really do need to do a DVD and sell it.

"The Aggro school of weathering" $39.95  Laugh [(-D]

Show my scruffy mug on a DVD? Nah....don't think ya'll can handle it. Laugh [(-D]

With this Athearn RTR UO car, airhoses, cut levers, Kadee #58 semi scale couplers were added, and end handrails. All the other details are already there. Then add 12 hours of weathering...

Here's some cars I've done in the last 6 months or so. The BN ex RBOX was a project based

on a forum challenge-& the graffiti was a definite challenge. All hand done, as I do all my cars

that way-hand painted & decaled. The 1st 3 are based on proto pics on Fallen Flags.org-but the last was done the same, but the pic shows the fantasy side-done for the prez of my railfan group, with tagging to reflect some of the members that railfan Sterling Ohio.

I had posted a pic of this hopper on WPF a couple of weeks ago, but here is the prototype, and the model... If you look closely, I managed the wheel spatter on the ends of the car body! Lucky attempt I guess! Big Smile [:D]

Here is another one I did a few days later... I was going for a more grimy look. Before I got this result, I had stripped my first two weathering attempts. I am using Floquil grimy black, rust, and refer white. I haven't been at all happy with chalks, and am doing some experimenting. Perhaps I can get desired results, but for now, I am getting used to using paint and thinner.

 Happy weathering!

Jeremy

I want to detail my first car..

Should I ground up some black chalk and use a brush to put on or what?

I would suggest going to the local art/craft store and getting a can matte varnish or Testors Dullcote if they have it and a set of earth tone pastels. Also pick up some of those little containers they sell for storing paint.

Rub some of the pastels on a piece of sandpaper and collect the dust into the small containers. Give your car a coat of the matte finish. When that dries, rub some of the dust onto your car. Then another coat of matte finish to seal it. This will hide some of your work, they also sell fixative spray that will not hide as much, but is less permanent. Just mess around on some cheap cars if you have them.

Just rubbing black chalk on your cars will look just like ...well...Black chalk rubbed on your cars.

Washes can create a nice effect too, but can be tricky. What sort of paints do you have available?
