What's your favorite engines in your collection ?...

My personal favorite is a brass Baldwin 0-8-0T (class of 1897,) purchased as a kit in Japan about 40 years ago and since detailed to be suitable for operation in 1964 (about 40 years after the prototype was scrapped.) The little bandit can outpull a couple of my 2-8-2's and holds its own with my DD13 class diesels.

I guess I'd have to go with my Stewart CNW C-628. It's very powerful and smooth running plus I put a Soundtraxx sound decoder in it. It's the same engine as featured on the cover of Eric Hirsimaki's "Chicago & North Western: The Michigan Ore Lines".

Really? Which one? I got a "Reno" for my 9th birthday. It was the first new locomotive that was actually my own and not a hand-me-down. This was back when Rivarossi was still putting brass details on. I also got an MRC "Ampack" power pack. Still have both of them, only wish I still had the original box for the 4-4-0.

Since then I've collected at least one copy of the entire V&T fleet that AHM made. Reno, Inyo, Genoa, and Bowker.

My 21 year old Lima British Rail class 87 electric is probably my favourite or is it my Conrail E33 electric? Either way my heavy electrics get my vote.

But seriously, my late grandfather gave me that engine well over 20 years ago. I've only seen one other like it. The last time he saw it was in 2001, shortly before he died. He'd forgotten all about it until I showed it to him. He smiled and went to sleep....then died a week later :(

Even though that engine no longer runs very well, it still has a place of pride on my railroad.

My Atlas S-3 (actually one of the older Austrian S-4's with an aftermarket S-3 hood casting) that I have painted and detailed to (almost) match a favorite prototype. Plus I added sound last year, which has made a real improvement.

My Atlas Rock Island U30Cs run and look great pulling one of my 60 car unit grain trains. Second favorite engine is my brass Precision Scale Southern Pacific SD45T-2 I had custom painted.

I'd say my two brass Akane ex-Missabe Yellowstones right off the bat, they're both about 40 years old, but they're big, powerful beauties and run like Swiss watches. After that, I'd definitely go for my chunky little brass 2-8-0's, one a PFM Santa Fe 1850 series (the first brass loco I ever bought) and the other a cute little Rio Grande 1100 series. But when you come down to it, I love ALL my locos--and I run them. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought them.

Any of my Stewart F7s, either in freight or passenger colors -- just love to see them pulling a string of cars around the track (or at least the portion that's laid so far [:P]). I'm also fond of two Atlas/Kato GP7s I've had for almost 10 years, which still run like Swiss clocks on their newish DCC decoders.

In HO, probably the Eire-Built in my sig. Just wish I'd fitted a better DCC decoder - it's getting a Lenz BEMF silent decoder to replace the Bachmann one as soon as funds allow!

In G scale, it would have to be my LGB Zillertalbahn 0-6-2 tank loco. A very solid-looking metre gauge steamer, for which I have one of the matching coaches (would like to add more, but they've been out of production for some time so I have to keep an eye open and buy when I find them). The barrel-shaped Bar car is due to come back into production this year, so I'll be ordering one of those asap.

In N scale, it would have to be my Minitrix DB Br.111 electric loco. Bought it used as part of a train pack with two coaches and a driving trailer, painted for the German S-Bahn suburban operations. It barely ran until I stripped it down, cleaned 10 years of gunge out of the gears and pickups, relubed and reassembled it. It's just had new buffer mouldings to replace the missing originals and runs like a dream.

Seems the S and RS-1's are an overall diesel favorite. Even if it weren't, I have to cast my vote in for the S1. I guess I'm just a switcher/yard kinda guy.

My other locomotive is also a 2-8-2 Mikado - but a "Light" and in HO. I'd like to add a P2K 0-8-0 to the collection at some point.

Most of my stuff is pretty recent (within the last 5 years) But I do have a few favorites.

My latest buy was an Atlas GP-40 DCC in Rochester and Southern color scheme and I'll tell you what, this is a sweet running Loco.

My Athearn Genesis F-3 A-B Santa Fe Freight Set is a sweet group that I can't wait to put decoders in.

My New P2K BN GP7 with Sound is a very nice unit also. The Sound just blows me away.

I love BIG non-articulated steam. So my roster includes, NKP 2-8-4 Berkshire, UP 4-8-4FEF, NYC 4-8-4 Niagra, and the N&W 4-8-4 J. But my FAVORITE OF ALL TIME has to be the Pennsy T-1 4-4-4-4!

Amongst my diesels....I'd say my pair of DCC equipped Kato CP SD90/43MAC(9122 and 9125).Steamers...it has to be my Heritage 2-8-8-2 Mallet(NW 2011),a Model Power 2-8-2 Mikado(CN 3441) but my top notch preference goes to my Rivarrossi 4-6-6-4 Challenger(UP 2874).
