My PFM D&RGW F-81 - it's almost as old as I am, but still runs like a watch, and it's beautifully crafted. I like large locomotives with small tenders - saves space, and the little vandy tender highlights the sheer size of the beast.

I purchased an Atlas GP-38, Illinois Central in 1973. It doesn't have all of the detail that engines have today, but she's dependable. Still runs like a Swiss watch. She just purrs. I have beautiful brass but their running qualities are somewhat questionable. The Spectrum line of steam I truly love, smooth and they look good.
Finally there is nothing like, when the lights are turned down and my Kato GE AC44 is rumbling down the tracks and the headlights and ditch lights are coming right at you.
What a feeling, it makes the hobby worth it.

My two favourites are both Atlas Master Class diesels, both in CN Green & Yellow Livery. One is a GP-7, and the other is a RS-3. I plan on painting my GP-38, GP-40, SW9 and GP9m in this livery as well, even though they didn't exist in real life.

better ask which engine I like least: Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0! I always found its height a bit awkward, but the other day it sat next to my newest engine, BLI's NYC S1b, and the domes, whistle, chimney even a bit of the cab of the little Baldwin towered clear above the big Niagara! [%-)] And then there was the dcc hard-wiring job waiting to be done... I'll get rid of that 2-8-0 on first occasion. Unless... I finally find a kit with which to build a nice Camelback around its frame.

I only have a few and love them all. My old yellow box Atlas RS-11 with kato drive would have to be my favorite, though. After (20?) years this engine still runs great. I was also the first engine that I purchased myself. [^]

Steam - My Rivarossi Big Boy with Digitrax DH140. One of the f/x functions is tied to an orange LED to simulate a firebox flicker. She was a site to behold pulling my fleet of Intermountain PFE, WP, and ATSF reefers on the club layout where I used to live.

Diesel - my twin Life-Like WP GP7's, numbers 711 and 714, both DH140 equipped. Just like the prototypes, they run well and look great, only I keep them much cleaner than the WP did.

I have a Walthers SW-1that really does a fine job on my tiny swithching layout circa early 1950's. Though I love them dearly, I sure wish manufacturers would get off the Big Boy, 4-8-4, Mallet monster kick for a while and give us some managable steam switchers. NYC B-10 or PRR B6sb.

Thats a hard one. I would probably say my Trix Big Boy although my Trix ICE3 and my Broadway limited N&W J class come close second

I love my old venerable Athearn metal trucked Nickel Plate Road PA1's. I am awaiting when P2K redoes them with full sound. For now the old growlers will have to do. These have the old silver metal trucks, no flywheels, and the old black (ring) motors, run smooth as glass and with all the extra lead I packed in the shells they will pull the longest freights our club runs. Just one of the units can handle my passenger train, the mate is along for the ride.

WOW! A lot of people like their Atlas master series GP40s, and I am no exception. It's the best runner I've ever had. it runs the quietest, slowest, and has the most detail. I bought it for $90[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

Well to tell you the truth I seriously like my KATO AC4400CW it works reliably and it is very smooth on the tracks and it go's very slowly at 10 miles an hour on my transformer just like a real engine should start up. So I think thats the best engine I got in my collection.

It's a toss up between my 3 Atlas Master series GP-38s, and my Athearn Genesis F3A and F3A-B, but since the Geeps wear Harvest Gold and Pine Green, I'll go with them

Mine would be my Santa Fe Atlas Dash 8-40CW. Man, do Atlas engines rule! Then it dropped out of my hands one late night while trying to do a little detail work, but sure enough, the sucker was built tough and nothing broke. Just goes to show that you should keep the late nights to a minimum or bad things happen.

I think my favorit out of my collection would be my walthers SP GP9. its not a very good model, but i love SP's GP9s and their low hood ones espeicaly. Its currenly compleatly taken apart since im makeing some new lighting circuits for it. Other than that one i really like my stewart U25Bs and my Walthers H12-44 =)

In N my favorite steam is my NYC shrouded hudson with boxpox drivers, runs great and looks great. Diesels got to be my custom bodied sharks in my home road liverly of coach green and black.

Without a doubt it has to be my outside frame Consolidation from Bachmann. I have this model in both Fn3 and On30 scales, and both are wonderful examples of what can be done with plastic and metal in an affordable package. Both locomotives are very good pullers, and while the Fn3 version has a lot more detail, the On30 version is still one of the most detailed models I've seen compared with anything near it's size.

My second favorite would probably be the MMI On30 K27. While as detailed as the Bachmann, it's more brass like running performance and required a lot of work to get up to snuff and the stock sound system was a nightmare to deal with. Beyond that, it's still a Mudhen and beautiful!
