Good Morning,
We had a beautiful, sunny day yesterday, nearly 70F but today it is raining and won't hit 50 which is normal this time of year.
Mike, sorry to hear about your Mother. Lifestyle means a lot but genes do to. She is just about a year younger than me. Yesterday I went up on the ròof to clean the troughs before winter. I am very careful as I don't like heights. I crawl along on my hands and knees near the edge.
An errand day today. First groceries and later bird seed.
CN Charlie
Good morning diners. Janie, coffee please.
Bear, any term (BBQ, grill, etc) works for me even if purists would vilify me for it. When it comes to the traditional concept of BBQing (low and slow), I usually just refer to that as smoking meats. I'll do both year round although I may not stand outside the whole time. By the way, I won't go so far as to say I'm tougher than you for doing it, just less prone to hibernation in the cold than a bear!
Monday sure was a Monday. Once I finally got home late from work, I walk into the house to my wife complaining about the refrigerator. Grabbed my IR thermometer and it said the milk was 58 degrees. The evaporator fan was running and the damper open, but no cold air blowing up into the refrigerator compartment. Unplugged it for the night, hoping that there was something froze up. Plugged it in this morning and air is once again blowing up into the refrigerator compartment. Gave it a good cleaning and hoping it was buildup on the condenser that was ultimately to blame. We'll see.
Mike
Gidday All. I've passed on your regards to Dave, though while I didn't specifically ask, I suspect that he, along with others, still looks in from time to time.
Mike, I don't know whether it is because of working outside on the ramp in all weather's over the years, but BBQing in the snow is not for the Bear, so I'll concede that I'm not as tough as you.
I do have to be careful though, as here the act of BBQing here generally means cooking directly over gas, grilling is the term you might use??
So for me BBQ weather is warm and involves sitting outside, with a cold beverage (or several), the smell of grilling dead animal, medium rare please, that gets consumed with a salad freshly picked from the garden, and with family and or friends.
Sorry to read about your Mom. Unfortunately living a good life is no guarantee for longevity, though I do agree that a healthy lifestyle should increase the odds. As my Grandma used to say, a little bit of everything in moderation should do you know harm.

Cheers, the Bear.
"One difference between pessimists and optimists is that while pessimists are more often right, optimists have far more fun."
Good Morning Diners. Zoe, coffee and a cinnamon roll please.
Bear, thanks for the update on Dave.
Dave, I'm guessing you are reading this. Know my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Had a birthday party for my mom yesterday. She is 76 today and her health is failing for no obvious reason. Never smoked, rarely drank, stayed in shape, ate healthy foods. Not sure how many birthdays she has left, but guessing not many. Both her parents lived long lives, so she just goes to show you how much chance plays into one's longevity. Still, I imagine she wouldn't be here today if not for the good living she did. Have to stack as many advantages in your corner as you can!
Put a new back door on the house this weekend and it went about as one would expect working on an old house. Still have to work on the interior trim but at least most of the project is done.
Cheers guys.
Tophias Bear, please send Dave my sincere regards and tell him I'm thinking of him.
Me also. Thanks.
Good afternoon fellow Diners. Nothing for me Flo, I'm not at all hungry right now.
I lost an old friend last Thursday and now I read the news about Dave. I guess at my age I need to come to expect such news but it really sets me back a bit. We have had too much of this kind of news here lately. I guess nothing for us to do but just soldier on. Bear, please send Dave my sincere regards and tell him I'm thinking of him.
Regards, Chris
Gidday Charlie, Dave's email, which is on his forum profile page, which I can access on my PC but not my phone, is dwarnica4141@rogers.com
Wow, realy sad about Dave, glad you were here to fill us in. Dave is realy the only reason I still come here. Don't know what to say or message to send.
Bear, that indeed is very sad news about Dave. He sent me a kit for a stock car a few years ago but I can't seem to find the address and can't remember his last name. Sure would like to hear from him.
Think I willjust take it easy today, perhaps do a little reading. I am part way through Steam Over Palmerston.
Very sad news Bear. Thanks for sharing.
Simon
Gidday folks, hon30critter Dave has just emailed me to let me know that he has also been "locked" out of the Forum, and "would you mind bringing folks up to date with my current situation."
I am sad to have to write that Dave reports that he is now in palliative care, his cancer is beyond treatment, and he "has no choice bur to let things run their course."
Now for what it's worth I felt that Dave's email was quite upbeat , Her-in-doors remarked that it seems that he's made peace with the world.. Still...
I have replied to Dave...

The Bear.
No open burning allowed here.
But somehow a fire pit is exempt.
Then again, if Crankshaft is your neighbor the fire company is on standby.
CN Charlie, I think we have the same neighbour. Our municipality accepts wood and leaves at the recycling centre, but the neighbour insists on burning everything. A real nuisance. Oh well.
Had a very warm week here and a nice weekend expected.
Got a leaking kitchen tap fixed. It was the pull out faucet hose. The supplier sent one out no charge and I got it yesterday. Lucky I can still get under the sink.
My on going feud with a neighbour continues. He is behind the house beside us. He has a fire pit and the smoke blows in our yard. Yesterday there was a large cloud of smoke from his yard. My wife was very upset with th smoke blowing into our house and I thought his deck or house was on fire so I called the fire department. It was his fire pit. He is very angry. Doesn't occur to him that there was a very large amount of smoke he caused. Next time if his house is burning I'll ignore it. Get along fine with neighbours beside and behind.
Had a very stressful week on the home front and that just capped it off.
Hope your day goes well, I guess mine can only get better.

Yes, one needs to think long and hard when invited for dinner by Hannibal Lecter.
Dont let the grass chewing beast see the BBQ until it completes the grass chewing. If it sees it the beast will lose any incentive it had to chew grass.
Good morning diners. Flo, coffee please. Busy week at work as we're in a plant outage this week for maintenance. Tuesday was absolute chaos. Things should start winding down today. Here's hoping anyway.
Bear, I'm a bit confused by your BBQ weather comment. It's always BBQ weather as far as I'm concerned! Pretty common to find me outside getting snowed on cooking up something tasty.
I got curious about some cars I preordered. Looks like the first batch I ordered should be arriving within a couple weeks (Yay!). The second batch still haven't been made (No!). Oh well. They'll be a nice surprise when the come. Have a great day everyone!
Being contrary to Simon, probably in more ways than one, I've had to get the lawn mower out of hibernation, give it a tickle up, and due to Spring growth, mow the lawns as any longer, I would have had to hire a cattle beast to chew them down to a movable height!. However, BBQ weather is on its way!!
Things are pretty busy at my end. We are assembling a metal car port for my son's car, in addition to the usual fall work to get ready for winter. So not a whole lot of time left for the model railroad... That usually picks up in November.
Good morning everyone. Just stopping in to try to keep the lights on. No news from my end of the world. Now for coffee. Take care.
The former owners of this site let it go for too long, acually the whole company, so it is going the way of the DoDo. But just like the DoDo they may reapear, bet you didn't know they were working on that. What realy happened to all this is many bad decisions one after the other, bad software and trying to keep things that should be long gone and they never used the forum as a gateway to the rest of their buisness effectively.
I can only access the Forum on my tablet. I used to clear out the cookies on it but am afraid that if I do I will join the locked out list. I wonder if they plan on fixing this. Would be nice to hear an update on what is being done from Mr. Otte.
A chilly day here, about 50F and may get frost tonight.
Coffee time again.

Our summer weather is over and we are back to normal which means 55F.
I don't have a snowblower and for the past 15 years we have hired a snow cleaning service. Besides I don't have a place to store one. There is just enough room in the garage for the car and the garbage bins.
Not mch new here. For the past week my wife has been on an antibiotic for a tooth infection. It is hard on her stomach especially as she has GERD. Not fun.
It is Thanksgiving here on Monday but we aren't doing anything. Miss the big dinners my MIL used to do but that is 20 years ago now.
Miss Ray in the Diner. I see his house is up for sale. Sad to see that.
Time for another coffee infusion.
First year I bought the blower it didn't snow at all.
Almost bought a second one the next year just to make sure it didn't snow again.
Yes, insurance.
Unfortunately, here where I live in Pennsylvania a snowblower is somewhat useless anyway. Most of the time we get that wet slushy stuff that just plugs up the discharge chute.
Maxman, I get your thought process. It's like insurance. That said, I've never had my snowblower(s) serviced except when a definite problem Existed. My 19 year old Ariens still has it's original belts. But I still have my generator serviced every year, which really is just an oil change. But I want to be considered a good customer in case there is a major problem, especially if it's during a power outage. Which is frequent in my neighborhood here in Massachusetts.
Called and made an appointment to have the snowblower picked up and serviced. I thought pretty pricey for what thay actually do.
On the other hand I just did not feel like wrestling with the thing this year. And if this expenditure prevents the snow from falling, so much the better.
Good afternoon dinners. Flo, a pint of Guinness if you please.
As I expressed a few days ago, not much going on modeling wise. Haven't run the layout since probably late June. Just been busy with all sorts of golf, travel, house/yard projects, and you know, stuff. But I did start my very first craftsman kit, a Banta kit call The Old Warehouse, or some such name. I must say working with wood is far more fun for me. It does take some time as parts are not labeled and many look alike. Its slow going for sure but I did manage to stain it last night. That part was remarkably easy I thought. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it here so we all have some input to read until all the rest of our fellow dinners return.
