Welcome to the October, 2024 Jeffrey's Trackside Diner!

Well, I'll give this a try.

This month's theme is whatever you want.

I'll throw the hook out there and maybe we can reel in those guys who abandoned ship.

Thanks for opening the Diner, Maxman. I reckon the future theme will be trying to stay open!!

The airport held an Open Day for it's  60th birthday, on the current site. The weather held off until just after the close, and then it was just a short sharp heavy rain shower. One of the aircraft taking joy rides was a DC 3, the sound of two radials on song was magic to my ears!!!

Good Afternoon,

Nice to see the Diner open again, thanks Maxman.

I tried to log in from a different computer to no avail,  so until that is fixed I am stuck with this tablet and I guess that is one reason there are so few participants.

Bear, I agree, nothing like the sound of 2 radials with throttles open wide. There are 2 water bombers here that are radial powered. They fly around at low levels each spring doing tests and as we are on a flight path to the airport I get to hear them.

Weather is still very nice here.

Wonder how Dave is doing.

Gidday Charlie, it would be good to think that those fire bombers only went on test flights, but...

I was actually spoilt in Saturday because not only was the Dak carrying out joy rides but these were too!!

Yes, I too do wonder how Dave is going?

Greetings Friends. Flo, just coffee this morning.

Great to be back. Truth is, I've been so busy with life in general I haven't really tried to log on in weeks. Nevertheless good to have it back.

That said, the news from Mr. Beasley was disappointing for sure. Not just as it applies to Mr. Beasley, but I'm fearful that many others might also share his thoughts. I surely hope not. Nothing wrong with joining another forum, but I just hope it's not at the expense of deserting this one. I'm a glass half full guy; if the behind the scenes decision was to close down this forum, after it being locked for the last several weeks, I would think they would have just done it. Why bring it back after several weeks only to close it in the future? I hope I'm correct but I realize there's a lot going on we don't know about yet.

Anyway, I hope whoever can log in again does so and participates as frequently as they are able.

Regards, Chris

Good Afternoon,

Another lovely day here in the GWN.

Had 2 different Piliated Woodpeckers visiting the suet log this past couple of days. Sure are a magbificent bird.

Bear, great photos!  There is a superb aircraft museum in Hamilton, ON. All the prop planes are restored to flying condition but only a few are actually flown including an Avro Lancaster. I must admit I like most forms of transportation. I had a sailboat for 35 years,  had 5 different boats, the last one for 25 years. I like wood power boats too especially the mahogany Chris Craft types. Cars were a passion too but never owned anything intresting. Since I was 16 I have always liked the 2 seat T Birds. Then there are trains.

Well think I will go out and watch tye birds for a while.

Gidday Chloe, just had a message from a locked out Batman.  He's been in touch with Critter Dave  who is quietly "chugging along."  I have taken the liberty of asking Batman to give  Dave our kindest regards.

Cheers,  the Bear.

Looks like I'm not locked out on my phone...yet. I'm honestly surprised the site opened. I had all but given up, but tried it on a whim. I'll try to get back to the dinner soon. Hope everyone is okay.

Interesting.  I'm able to log in at the moment on my computer, so.....

Good Afternoon Diners!  Chloe, a bacon cheeseburger and a chocolate malt!

Bear, love the pics of the planes.  There is a nice air museum in Kalamazoo, Michigan (where I'm originally from).  I went there once with my grandfather and have some wonderful memories of that day, locked away in the 'ol memory banks.  Granddad was supposed to train to be a pilot during WWII, so knew plenty about those planes, which also happened to be my favorite.  I'm not sure all the details, but I don't know if he ever got airborne in one or not.  I don't think he did.  I was too young to think to ask then.

My youngest is a high school senior this year, and made homecoming court just like her older sister did a few years ago.  Last Friday saw us once again walking a daughter out on the football field in front of a small town crowd.  Never figured my kid would be out there, much less both of them.  Had to fight back a mile wide grin.

Saw this defect detector on Shorpy, photo dated March 1943.  It's worth a peek, but apparently I can't insert it directly here.  Cool equipment.

One river, two bridges.  The amazing part is the open bridge is apparently the vehicle bridge and the covered bridge is the railroad bridge!

Got the picture this time.  Almost responded that it was an incorrect photo.

The I looked at the side of the second car.  I was expecting a car defect detector, not a track defect detector.

Cute little buggers aren't they.

That's what I thought too.  There was style in everything made back then, including something as obscure as defect detectors.

Glad to see Dave is okay (and Batman too!).

Bear, Chris, Charlie - glad to see you guys can get into the diner as well.  Now if only we could get several dozen more of our former members back in we would be in business.

Hope none of our forum friends experienced loss during either of the hurricanes.

I hesitate to try to list everyone else I can think of we are missing as I'm afraid I'll forget more than a couple.  Ed, TF, John, David, etc., etc., I do hope we are all able to converse on here again someday soon.

Cheers everyone.

I'd like to see a couple guys back too.  Took a gander at the "other" copy cat forum and only saw a couple three other guys from here, so I don't know where everyone is.  Maybe down in the basement doing something useful.

Gidday Mike, all those you  mentioned plus more, have a presence over on the other Forum.  A number have indicated that they can't log in!

It appears that Kevin was unscathed by Milton.

It's annoying posting from my phone but I intend to hang around here for as long as possible. After all, Chloe is not over there!!!

Cheers the Bear.  Smile

Afternoon all.  Chloe, a chocolate malt please.

Mister Mikado, those are beautiful pictures!

Bear, glad to hear Kevin made it through okay.  I must admit I looked at the other site when this one wouldn't open.  Just didn't feel right.  I did not make an account there.  Good to know several from here are still alive and kicking since they can post over there.

rrebell, it appears you are right.  Still, from a humble seed a mighty oak grows.  Maybe this diner can be the seed to regrow the forum if the software ever gets updated.

Spend the day working on some wiring in my garage, and some other odds and ends around the house.  Trying to get the last things I wanted done before the snow flies.  Not going to be easy.  Won't leave me much if any train time soon either.

Take care everyone!

Good afternoon dinners. Flo, a pint of Guinness if you please.

As I expressed a few days ago, not much going on modeling wise. Haven't run the layout since probably late June. Just been busy with all sorts of golf, travel, house/yard projects, and you know, stuff. But I did start my very first craftsman kit, a Banta kit call The Old Warehouse, or some such name. I must say working with wood is far more fun for me. It does take some time as parts are not labeled and many look alike. Its slow going for sure but I did manage to stain it last night. That part was remarkably easy I thought. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it here so we all have some input to read until all the rest of our fellow dinners return.

Called and made an appointment to have the snowblower picked up and serviced.  I thought pretty pricey for what thay actually do.

On the other hand I just did not feel like wrestling with the thing this year.  And if this expenditure prevents the snow from falling, so much the better.

Maxman, I get your thought process. It's like insurance. That said, I've never had my snowblower(s) serviced except when a definite problem Existed.  My 19 year old Ariens still has it's original belts. But I still have my generator serviced every year, which really is just an oil change. But I want to be considered a good customer in case there is a major problem, especially if it's during a power outage. Which is frequent in my neighborhood here in Massachusetts.

First year I bought the blower it didn't snow at all.

Almost bought a second one the next year just to make sure it didn't snow again.

Yes, insurance.

Unfortunately, here where I live in Pennsylvania a snowblower is somewhat useless anyway.  Most of the time we get that wet slushy stuff that just plugs up the discharge chute.

Good Morning,

Our summer weather is over and we are back to normal which means 55F.

I don't have a snowblower and for the past 15 years we have hired a snow cleaning service. Besides I don't have a place to store one. There is just enough room in the garage for the car and the garbage bins.

Not mch new here. For the past week my wife has been on an antibiotic for a tooth infection. It is hard on her stomach especially as she has GERD. Not fun.

It is Thanksgiving here on Monday but we aren't doing anything. Miss the big dinners my MIL used to do but that is 20 years ago now.

Miss Ray in the Diner. I see his house is up for sale. Sad to see that.

Time for another coffee infusion.

Good Morning,

I can only access the Forum on my tablet. I used to clear out the cookies on it but am afraid that if I do I will join the locked out list. I wonder if they plan on fixing this. Would be nice to hear an update on what is being done from Mr. Otte.

A chilly day here, about 50F and may get frost tonight.

Coffee time again.

The former owners of this site let it go for too long, acually the whole company, so it is going the way of the DoDo. But just like the DoDo they may reapear, bet you didn't know they were working on that. What realy happened to all this is many bad decisions one after the other, bad software and trying to keep things that should be long gone and they never used the forum as a gateway to the rest of their buisness effectively.
