I've been lurking and I'm glad MR has emerged to tell us about their forum plans

I ran across Youtube videos by Al Pugliese.  He did, what I wish I did when I was living in MD, he became a disciple of Howard Zane.   Howard created some fantasy trains.  There are a couple other videos of smaller fantasy MOW cars.  I may try to build something similar to the smaller cars.

POST HOG!

Ju-Ju has been wanting a Rachel Ray pots and pan cooking set, and hasn't splurged on herself.  We usually don't exchange Christmas presents together, to give more to everyone else in our family, but she was told if she buys me a Choo-Choo I've been wanting, she will get her pots and pans setLaugh

Some creative planning herePirate

Evening

That is one fine looking breakfast Bear, can only hope for one like that from Ju-Ju tomorrow, as she has the whole weekend off and likes to cook breakfast for me.

Is it Spring up there still, or Summer yet?  I've lost Track, but hope your having some decent weather.

That pasta contraption ya came up with sounds quite scrumptious David.  Wishing for a really fast cigar boat to come join yaLaugh

Can't stand it any more!  I'm taking Judy to Carmines Italian for some sort of seafood pasta dishDinner  They do a Primo Job with the food over there.

Have a good evening gentlemanSmile

Good afternoon

I'll join this Canadian Bacon fan club as well eh.

Judy talked me into driving over the river to go to the Windmill Cafe in Savage, Minnesota for Eggs Benedict last weekend.  Now it's worth the extra drive to go to a Ma-Pa breakfast restaurant, who gets up at 4:00 in the morning to hand shred fresh potatoes for the hash browns.  You know all the other food is awesome when they start out like that.  Thier holidays sauce is grubbin manDinner

Canadian bacon is the center cut of the pigs back, that is much leaner than pork loin.  Yes, the true stuff is that little round portion that is quite succulent and tender, almost like a filet mignon of ham.  The Windmill must have a reputable supplier, as most vendors dry the stuff out during the smoking process.

Now my mouth is watering nowLaugh  Too bad they close at 3:00, or I'd be having eggs benedict breakfast for dinnerWhistling

Good Morning,

David, can't buy any bacon here labelled 'Canadian style'. What others call Canadian we call peameal bacon. It is very lean. My mother used to just fry it in a cast iron pan, not too hot as it can burn being so lean. Haven't had any for years but all grocery stores here sell it. It is made from a different cut than side bacon, so it isn't the cooking method.

As it is early, more coffee please.

Thanks Charlie.   I love cooking and trying different recipes.  Sometimes I put my  own twist to it.

Water Level Route

That is a neat photo.  I wonder what the structure is next to the cars in the foreground.  With what appears to be a partially assembled wall, while the rest of it looks complete, and clearly meant to be driven through.  A scale house perhaps?

Don't know as it's way before my time.Smile It's possible it was connected to an grain elevator that's not in the picture.

Good morning,

I'll take the combination ham and cheese sandwich with ice cream for dessert.  Lunch for breakfast at $1.80, imagine that, lunch for under two bucksYes

Tis the SeasonSmile

TF

PS.  On second thought I'll take a coffee black, the BLT, and Peanut Butter Party for the Ice cream, I'm thinking John's got the right idea, and it's still under two bucksLaugh

Good morning, everyone.  I'll have bacon, eggs, and black coffee, please.

This will be the second day this week I have nothing scheduled.  I should be able to spend time on the layout -- I may even get a train running by tonight.

There aren't a lot of photos of trains, snow, and beaches all in the same scene!

Here's White Rock, British Columbia:

Good Morning Diners.  Zoe, doughnuts.  It's Friday.

Had one of those days at work yesterday that I like to call Stupid Busy.  It was ridiculous.  Luckily none of what was taking place was bad, but it was stressful taken all together.

Taking the family to a hockey game tonight.  AHL not NHL, but it will still be fun.

Ed, I love it when you post those old diner menus.  Sure makes me wish I got to see those days.

Hope everyone is happy and healthy!

AEP528
The forums work on every browser and computer that I own, Windows and MacOS. I have never had issues with reading or posting to any particular thread. I have never seen the 403 error when posting.

It would seem that you are the exception. I'm happy that you haven't had problems, but you seem to be negating those many people, including myself, who have had problems.

AEP528
Marking old threads read-only is something I have never seen happen on popular Internet forums, and there's a very good reason - people will start repeating the sames topic year after year after year because they can't add new questions or information to existing threads. It makes the forums even messier.

The fact that marking old threads as 'read only' hasn't been a common practise doesn't mean that it is not a viable option.

People have been repeating the same topics for years. It bothers me when someone tells a poster that "that has been discussed before" without offering at the very least a link to the previous discussion (s), particularly when the poster is a newcomer to the forums. So what if something has been discussed before?!? These forums aren't aimed at the expert modelers.

I have a current thread that now has more than 80,000 views.

https://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/291158.aspx

Clearly there is a lot of interest in the thread. Deleting it outright would deny me and the viewers the ability to refer back to older significant posts in the thread. That would be particularly problematic when it comes time to do a condensed version of the thread, which I fully intend to do once the project is finished. I wouldn't be able to just cut and paste key posts or parts thereof. Creating a summary thread under those circumstances would be an onerous task.

Cheers!!

Dave

My miserable experience on these forums includes the fact that I need to go to a different browser to even read threads on forums other than this one and the Classic Trains forum. I cannot post to any forum other than this one and the Classic Trains forum. So, I cannot even reply to zprisk's posts.

I do agree with those who are suggesting that the old MR threads be archived for future reference. They could, and should, be read-only, an argument that I have made for years.

The existing threads should be imported into the new forum software or deleted. There are no other viable options.

Hi Rich,

I agree, provided that a link can be posted to the old 'read only' threads in the new 'clean' forums.

Actually, it's on the Trains General Discussion forum...

https://cs.trains.com/trn/f/111/t/296863.aspx

Hi Tom,

Thanks for posting that link! There is a very clear explanation of what has been happening with the forums and what will happen in the future. I STRONGLY urge everyone to to read zprisk's posts!!!!!

https://cs.trains.com/trn/f/111/t/296863.aspx

The information in those posts should have been posted here long ago! Kalmbach has shot itself in the foot IMHO. We may have lost some major contributors because they have kept us in the dark. That is not the way to run a business!

Fortunately there is a very bright light at the end of the very long tunnel.Thumbs Up

Cheers!!
