Up early today as had to take my wife in to get her eye checked. The scratch is all healed which is good news.
Yesterday we hit 50F here which is a near record. All the snow has melted and even though it will only get to 30F today it nevers seems as cold as long as there isn't any snow.

Fifty years ago this week I drove to Florida with my friend from universiy days, Terry. We drove from London where I was living at that time. The car was my '73 Nova coupe. We saw a lot, Disney World, Daytona Beach, Key West and Ft. Lauderdale. Sadly Terry passed away a few years ago. We did meet a couple of student nurses from Michigan. Wonder what Jill looks like now. Sure was hot then.
No plans for today. We are expecting a box of Christmas goodies we ordered from Holts. They have the best panetones. Also a Christmas pudding. Cutting back on the gifts this year as our nieces don't reciprocate even though both are very well off. I don't want or need anything myself.

It's another fall day, another day to pick up leaves. We were supposed to get quite a bit of snow beginning tomorrow, but the latest forecast shows the storm going south of us through Kansas. We should get only a small amount. I need to get the snowblower out and make sure it works before we get a bigger snowfall.
Work on the layout bridge is coming along, but slowly.

Last night we watched a 'Christmas Fair from Strasbourg' on Youtube. It brought back memories of my visit there in th 1970s. A beautiful cathedral. Walking beside the river. The architecture on the buildings. A gorgeous city indeed.

York1 Good morning, everyone. Bacon, eggs, and coffee, Chloe. Out for the morning trail walk with the dog this morning, I saw the blue heron again. It's been a long time since I had spotted it. This photo is not good. I grabbed my $30 Walmart phone for the photo, and tried taking the picture while the dog was jerking the leash. The heron looked to be about four feet tall. I don't want to jinx myself, but right now I have a full day ahead with nothing to do except railroading! I need about 2,000 of these days so I can say I'm making progress.

I don't want to jinx myself, but right now I have a full day ahead with nothing to do except railroading! I need about 2,000 of these days so I can say I'm making progress.

Was sunning myself on the dock one morning when a blue heron flew over and crapped right in my face.
Blue Heron crap is really nasty, as rolling off the dock into the lake to rinse off seamed like the right thing to do at the time while throwing up in the water
Sorry, as that was not a very good morning that day. Many of other mornings were much better then that one

Water Level Route Looks like I have to send my NCE system in for repair. I've tried everything to get it to quit misbehaving to no avail. I finally had time to call them yesterday and the gentleman I spoke with pretty quickly reached the same conclusion I did. I just hope I get it back by Christmas. I have time off planned around the holidays and sure would enjoy being able to run some trains while I have the time. I haven't had more than a few minutes at a time in the last several months which was ruined by a malfunctioning system. Nuts!

It's still lightly raining here. We haven't had this in quite a while.
When we had Daisy the Dachshund, we had to literally drag her outside when it was raining. This new dog is the opposite. She runs outside, raining or not, and the rain doesn't seem to bother her at all. She's got some working dog genes in her, so I guess she's ready to work no matter the weather.
More work on the bridge today. This rainy weather has helped move bridge construction along ahead of schedule.

At last! I am not lazy.
All my school life I had great difficulty using my right hand. Being unable to pick things up. Catch anything that was thrown at me. Write. It was much easier to use my left hand. Quicker. I had to have tests as to why I did not use my right hand.
The result -- I was lazy in not using the hand.
All my life I still use my left hand to do things and not my right.
Recently I have had tests done on my kidneys. All is well, but the hospital did other tests.
"Did I know I had a stroke early in my life?" a Doctor asked.
I knew my Aunt and Uncle took me out of the hospital so as to die at home instead of hospital ( as the doctors at the time said I had only a month to live).
Therefore I am not lazy. I am just a lousy piano player.

I just did. The depot has had some upgrades since then but still looks much the same. I was HQed there at various times during my career with N&W/NS. I've been retired since Feb. 2008.

Good evening, diners. It's happy hour, so I'll have a lite beer, Chloe.
This has been a wonderful day for our area -- it has been dark with light rain all day. We have been in such a drought that this is very welcome.
My wife is helping at a soup supper at our church, so that leaves me alone! Great time to work on the layout! I have some cross supports on the bridge glued and drying, so I get some time in the diner.
My daughter just called and she is trying to work out next summer's vacation plans for us all. She gets my wife and I, the three daughers and their husbands and all the grandkids together each year for a vacation somewhere. I love it because the daughters plan everything -- all I have to do is show up.
I hope everyone is doing well.

Good morning diners. Chloe, coffee please. Last day of fall soccer season for us. I'm ready for the break, but it does make me a bit sad. I rather enjoy the time together. She has played well so far this weekend. A goal and an assist at this point. Her whole team has played well so far, unlike how they finished the last few games of their regular season. Tournament play has them re-energized.
