Water Level Route Good Morning Diners. Janie, coffee and a Bavarian cream long john please. I face a dilema and could use some input. My truck is basically fine. There are a number of relatively minor issues with it, but nothing that makes it unsafe or undriveable. Just really annoying. We just paid some other stuff off, so I could upgrade to a newer truck and specifically to one I've really wanted for several years without it really affecting our budget. The thing is, with the exception of my very first vehicle, every vehicle I've bought, I bought due to need. (reliability issues, mechanical issues costing more than they were worth, one got hit and totalled parked in front of my house, etc.) In all of the previous cases, I was clearly due for a newer vehicle and so didn't have a problem doing it. I've never bought a vehicle just because I wanted an upgrade. The last several of my wife's vehicles were acquired due to want as opposed to need though. My wife is telling me to buy a newer truck. Friends are telling me to just do it. I'm waffling. Anybody else go through that?

My car is about six years old and is completely paid off. It's in good shape and running fine but I have another problem with replacing it. I am retired and don't drive much. But, I live in a state that is threatening to forbid anyone from buying anything but an electric car. I don't mind the concept, but I'm bothered by the price and the continuing lack of charging infrastructure, particularly as one gets further from Washington, DC, and places that actually have lots of charging stations.
Think about when you will have to replace your truck and make sure the kind of truck you want will still be available when you want it.
Perhaps Ray, as an early electric adopter, will see this discussion and add his thoughts.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Howdy again diners. Janie, I'll take a french dip please.
I appreciate the input guys.
BigDaddyMoney matters. Just because everything is paid off, doesn't mean you are saving enough for retirement.
MisterBeasleyThink about when you will have to replace your truck and make sure the kind of truck you want will still be available when you want it.
I'll be honest. As much as I love vehicles, I loath buying them, even when I've needed a newer vehicle and found exactly what I was looking for. It always makes me feel really nervous. Almost like I get buyers remorse before I even buy them. Eventually I always end up happy with them. Guess I just have to get used to them or something.

Maybe a little off topic, but are the new electric Corvettes available with a sound decoder?
MisterBeasleyPerhaps Ray, as an early electric adopter, will see this discussion and add his thoughts.
Huh? What? Somebody call my name???
Well... The Tesla is the 3rd. car I have owned that has electric capabilities and is the first "all-electric".
Ok... First off "Price". Yep they tend to be a bit more expensive... . After the trade-in of my Chevy Volt I had to write a check for a little over $31,000 for the Model 3 Tesla. (Yeah, I paid cash for it as my Credit Union informed me it would cost a lot less to "pay myself back" even if I lost the interest on that money than to take out a loan that the interest rate was over 3 times as much. (No commercial bank would ever let you know that....). I paid myself back in about 1 year....
Do remember that the cost of electric is a lot less than Gasoline or Diesel. For me, I make more electric on the roof of my house (18 solar panels up there) than I use in the car. The panels I got very cheap with a NYS program so they have already paid for themselves.
Infrastucture.... Infrastructure is improving. Eastview Mall in Victor, NY has 6 Level 3 Tesla Chargers already and they are in the midst of putting a couple dozen various brands of charging stations there at the moment. They are located just off the NYS Thruway and having that infrastructure will bring in more business to the stores there as people will likely go shopping while they are charging the cars. I know I can drive from my house in Geneva, NY to visit that guy over on Vancouver Island with no problem already. Lots of places to get a charge. However I will have to cross into Canada just past Chicago as there is nothing yet Stateside for it after that.
Safety..... You hear a lot about that. Much is not quite true. My youngest Son is in the UK and works at the Faraday Institute. He is considered to be one of the most knowledgable people in the world on the topic! He teaches about 50 Doctoral Candidates from all over the world, is an advisor to Parliament and the PM on the subject. According to him safety compared to Gas and Diesel power? About the same actually. (Certain Sources like to blow up the reports to aid their sponsors....) Remember one cup of Gasoline has enough explosive power to lift a one ton weight (your car???) one mile straight up in the air. I learned that at Chemical Fuels Training in Boy Scouts!
OK.... All that said. Individuals have to figure out what is the best route to follow for themselves. Cost, Infrastructure, and how the vehicle is going to be used. Do the research and decide what works best for you. Personally, I will never own anything that is powered by Fossil Fuel again. I do use natural gas for heating and cooking at home. I just don't have the $$$$ to change that at the moment. Hope the next folks that own the place will change to Electric 100%.
OK.... Back to mowing lawn with my EGO mower.....

Evening
Well, no feedback on that one this morning, or from the other day. Just like the last direct response before that. Maybe I'll respond to another one again some other day. Than again, maybe not.
Gotten to be quite the beer sampler. Its surprising how many people leave left over beer in hotel rooms. Three of them here, five of em there, and a whole six pack in another room. Judy finds them in the rooms at the hotel all the time every week. It adds up, and cuts our beer tab down significantly over here.
Tonights brewski's, Fat Tire, Surly Furious, and Molsen Golden. Fourteen of them scavenged today. Utterly delightful, as said this morning, Thursday is our Friday night over here
Both of us are too tired from wxxk this evening. We were going to go to the Farmers Market that's every Thursday night at Centennial Lakes, but were just too darn tired.
Tomorrow, Judy wants to hotel it at a Hilton over looking Christmas lake. One wonders if we'll have enough Fat Tire left over for that one
Have a great evening gentlemen

No, nothing yet, try this one on for size!
That swear finger was hammered hard, and a good thing you didn't hear the swear words that came out of my mouth.
Don't you hate it when that happens. When's the last time you did something stupid like this? Remember the last time, you said you'd never let it happen again?
Hit the nail on the head, or whatever you're swinging at, ...not your finger stupid
In my defense, there was twenty minute mud about to set up in the pan, and was rushing to use it up. Tried to beat up and remove the old outdated intercom off the wall, to screw a backer board in there, and use up all the mud
Unfortunately, I've been here a couple times too many before, and know exactly how it works. About two weeks into it, you have to take a tiny drill bit and drill through your fingernail to relieve the pressure, cuz it gets too painful. Thick black blood oozes out when you do that, ... Yuck, it's really Blucky
The Blue Moon takes about three to four months to run its coarse. It rots out your fingernail and it kinda stinks, decomposing while it's still trying to grow out, .....until it's finally over
I'll never do this again, but that's what was said the last time this happened
What are you going to do though?
Track fiddlerHit thenail or whatever you're swinging at stupid, ...not your fingerTongue Tied
OUCH!!!

The treatment I have heard is to heat the end of a paper clip red hot and burn through the nail, when it happens, not 2 weeks later. A chest surgeon and I agreed that there was no way we could do that to ourselves.

Hi Henry
From past experiences, it took a while for it to fester, and then the pressure to build. Maybe about a week and a half, if not closer to two.
Aluminum duct tape was used the last time. It was wrapped around one of my mini drill bits as a stop, and then drilled through the fingernail. The calculations weren't exactly correct. It may have gone a bit past the fingernail as it hurt...
That's when all that black blucky blood oozed out, and made my finger feel so much better.
I'm not one much for doctors, just like my Marine Sergeant Dad wasn't. He pulled his own teeth with a vise grips needle nose pliers. I've tried that myself once from his teachings, but apparently I'm not as much of a hard-ass as he was. Part of my tooth stayed in the gum and started to abscess. It didn't take too long to go in and have that one taken care of.
My Dad said he had pieces of teeth that stayed in his gums. He also said he considered it no different than the shrapnel he still carried with him from the war.
My Dad is really missed
Good morning, diners. Everyone is still sleeping at our house, so I will just have black coffee, and wait for breakfast until everyone else is up. The out-of-town company leaves this morning, so it will be back to work painting the house.
Add me to the group that would not want to pull my own teeth or drill through my finger nail. The best thing would be to wake me when it's over.

Right you are. Luckily it was part of day one (Monday). I did the loop hike and it was quite challenging. At one point, there is an elevation gain of 200' in less than a 1/4 mile. The high point is over 7400', killer for my 1300' lungs.
The next trip is scheduled for the first week of October, this time with three of my riding buddies. Highlights will include Hoover (Boulder) Dam, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Natural Bridges National Monument, and the Forrest Gump road near Monument Valley.

You are exactly correct Richard. There was in fact two nails, wasn't there?
You're one of those guys out there that sees more than anyone else sees, or more than the average bear does, don't you?

7,500 feet, I took my sons to Bomber Mountain WY, site of a WW2 crash of a B17 that was only discovered after the war. I had never backpacked that far and the top of the mountain was 11,000' Another 100 feet and they would have missed the mountian top.
People have scavenged this war grave. A propeller sits in Sheridan WY. The tires were hacked apart by souvenier hunters, but they looked brand new 60 years later.

Sparse population means less infrastructure as a whole, much less electric vehicle stations. Couple that with the drastic drops in range while towing (especially something like a good sized camper) and that leaves me nervous about them for right now. He's simply stating the name is in several different locations and spelled three different ways. He's just asking if we know which is correct. It's also in the welcome paragraph as Jeffrey. Given the RIP track appears to be a screen grab of his avatar with his spelling underneath, I would say the graphic is 100% correct. Whether it's spelled his way or not, I think we all approve of the graphic as is either way.

Yup, Blue Moons are a drag! When the real ones comes round pulling the tides, there's something about us being made up of 70% water. Those Blue Moons keep ya from sleeping good for a few nights
Never liked Blue Moons...
Blue Moon:
Love the old song by the Marcels.
The beer used to be better. It might have gotten ruined when they were taken over by Miller/Coors.
As for the tides, we have water under our house right now. It's from the tropical storm moving up the coast right now. The back of the house is on stilts, so we're good. This happens about once a year.
Good tune Mister B.
My CC likes that song, and she really likes Vadalia onions.
And her soft blankie Auntie Judy got for her.
My life is of the fullest. I'm blessed with dolls.
Good evening, everyone. Brunhilda, I'll have an ice cold beer.
TF, it looks like CC and you had a great time. You're a lucky man! She sure looks happy to have you around.
MisterBeasley, I hope you can stay high and dry through the storm.
The out-of-town relatives left this morning, so I was able to get out for a some prep work on the back of the house before painting. Little did I know that some bats had taken up residence behind some of the shutters. I had to clean up about three tons of bat cr*p. Not a pleasant way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
The Royals are playing Houston, so I have a good night of baseball watching ahead.
I hope everyone has a great Saturday evening.
