Evening

The marinated chicken, and potatoes in foil, turned out great over the Kingsford John.  And then you drop the grate down and brown it for the last three to four minutes, so it doesn't dry out.

My glasses broke at the train show last Saturday, and ended up in the circular file at the door.

You probably should have been there at the picnic table.  We would have fed youSmile

Judy described my arm reaching out farther than it could possibly extend, while simultaneously squinting.

She was laughing kinda hard, and took a picture with her Superphone.  That one may have to be re-gathered from her, before she pastes it all over FacebookTongue Tied

Judging by her laughter, that photo could very well be funnier than some of the lower budget Monty Python stuffEmbarrassed

She hasn't showed it to me yetBlindfold

Used to sneak into her phone at night while she was sleeping, only when one really needed to do that.  She's got the same pattern lock, but don't know how this new Superphone worksHuh?...Laugh

I was on a business trip years ago.  It was last minute, so by normal procedure I had to go through "special screening."  No big deal, because I already knew my flight was delayed.  I unloaded all my carry-on swag, and then one of the TSA agents asked if the boarding pass he was holding was mine.  "It looks like mine, but I can't read it because the other gentleman over there took my glasses."

We all looked around at the absurdity of the situation, all smiled and broke out laughing.

     Ouch!

I remember hearing about this 'mishap' on the Strasburg. This is the best video I've found showing exactly what happened:

The engine crew had to have passed that equipment on the siding after uncoupling from the train just minutes earlier. From what I gather the front end has already been repaired.

Good Morning Diners.  Chloe, bacon, eggs, and blueberry pancakes please.

Had a great time at the football game, even if they didn't play as well as they should have.  It was good to spend some time with my brother again.  We don't get together often.  Wish we could have had our other brother with us as well.  I see him even less.

About a week and a half ago my wife and I ordered a couple apple trees to replace a pair in our yard that had issues.  The company said they would ship in 3-4 weeks.  Perfect.  Plenty of time for me to get the others cut down with everything else we have going on.  The new trees showed up in 5 days!  Got the old ones down and the new ones planted Sunday.  Hopefully they fare better.  They are supposed to be resistant to a number of different diseases so hopefully we don't have issues with them.

Had to make an emergency appointment with our optometrist office Friday.  Turns out I managed to scratch my eye and the scratch got infected.  Painful!  Had a follow up yesterday and she said the scratch is 90% healed.  Thank goodness.  I hate wearing my glasses, but can't go back to my contacts until this heals.

Been bingeing on Jimmy Buffett music lately after his passing.  I read his autobiography a couple years ago.  What an amazing life he led.  One of my favorites for you guys to enjoy: One Particular Harbor.  I think Jimmy is there now.

Good afternoon Diners.  A large coffee on the go please, Chloe.

We are back home after our cruise in the Mediterranean.

Now arranging to have an elevator installed in the house  to help Dawn as she is struggling with climbing the stairs.  It also means a huge rearrangement  of the furniture,  so a busy few days.

Good morning

Welcome back David.  I'm sure you and Dawn had a great time on your cruise.  Got any pics to share?

We put in one of those chair lifts up the stairs for my friend Dr Phil some years ago.  Actually two of them.  Phil would set the laundry basket in Chris's lap and send her downstairsLaugh  That lift seemed to work just fine for Christy, just a thought.

Time to set the chicken burger out of the freezer for tonight, its Taco Tuesday alreadyDinner

Good morning, diners.  Bacon, eggs, and black coffee, please.

Relatives invade the homestead today.  We have a couple of busy days scheduled visiting cemeteries, old home sites, etc.

Welcome back to the diner, David.  Hope the elevator installation goes smoothly.  I had an aunt and uncle who installed one several years ago.  Two people could fit, but it was crowded.  It took quite a bit of structural work to cut through the house, but the elevator could go from the basement to the second floor.  I hope you and Dawn can put up with the installation.

Mike, glad you were able to get the new trees planted.  We cut down our final apple tree several months ago.  We had some problems, and the last several years, we got no apples.  We now have no fruit trees left.  I think we both know we are too old to think about how long we have to wait for new trees to mature.  At one time, we had pears, peaches, cherries, and apples.  For several years, we got an abundance of good fruit.  Now we just buy what we want.

TF, that bear in the Krispy Kreme van was funny.

Dave, we haven't heard lately, but how is your new knee is doing?  Are you able to get around OK?

Time for last minute cleaning and a trip to the grocery store before the relatives arrive.  Have a great day, everyone.

Hi John,

My knee is doing quite well. I have almost achieved the range of motion goals. The biggest challenge is a lack of strength in my legs in general. That is a result of my back problems not allowing me to walk very far for many years. I find the exercises to be exhausting.

I'm hoping to get my driver's licence back by the end of Sept.

Thanks for asking,

Cheers!!

Dave

Well, Judy is allergic to bee stings, and the Benadryl worked the last time just fine, instead of a spendy EpiPen.

There was a wasp in the condo, and according to her, I'm in charge of thatHuh?...Dots - Sign

My Dad used a badminton mallet to swat a wasp or bee out of the air.  Works good.

The Tuesday Taco guy in Henderson did his last gig, he had his granddaughter helping, so tipped her good.  The burrito was just as good as the last timeDinner

Good morning

Google had something about pirate day yesterdayPirate  Makes ya wonder who comes up with all this stuff? Laugh

Imgur still isn't working since Sunday.  It says it's over capacity and try again later, after you try to upload a photo.  Any one else having a problem with their site.

There's some threads about it on the internet.  One of them said to un-install and re-install it, and the it will work just fine.  Some one else said they did that and it only worked for a couple days.  I'm kinda leery about doing that, being afraid I'll lose all my pictures.

Another person said Imgur changed the data format size of the photos it supports.  Don't know.  Does anyone know anything about this Imgur problem, and have any advise?

Have a great day everyoneSmile

Good morning, diners.  Bacon, eggs, and black coffee.

We're getting an early start today.  We are driving quite a ways to visit some family cemeteries.

I knew about Talk Like a Pirate Day because it's one of my sons-in-law's birthdays, and he always gets all kinds of texts with pirates saying Happy Birthday.

TF, I've been able to use Imgur without any issues.  Of course, every month, I delete almost all the photos I have on there, so maybe that's it.  I'll keep watching it to make sure.  I don't store any photos I want to keep except on my backups.

I'm making breakfast for everyone, so I'd better get busy.  I hope everyone has a great day.

Tacoma Union Station.  I got off the City of Portland here in the 1950s.  I don't really remember it, though:

Thanks for the response John.  After researching and troubleshooting the issue since 4:30 this morning, the problem was finally figured out and it was a simple one.  Chrome was never updated in my new phone and that did the trick.

If a tank car over turns in front of me, I am not running up to it.

Dave did you lose your drivers license becasue of bad knees?   I should have lost mine when I fainted.  It took them months to figure out that I really did need a pacemaker.

TF I used Imgur on Sunday and again today.  No problem but I imagine you feel like Dilbert

Hi Henry,

The knee surgeon suspended my driving licence while I recover from the operation enough to be able to safely apply pressure to the brake peddle without blowing my knee joint out. That usually takes between four to eight weeks. I will see him just after four weeks have passed.

I have suffered a bit of a setback with my recovery. On Monday I did too much walking and too many physio exercises. On Tuesday I could hardly stand. My leg felt like lead and my muscles were rock hard, and my balance was shot. The situation is only temporary. I should be back to where I was in a couple of days. I see the physiotherapists next Monday and I'm going to ask them to modify my program to reflect the fact that I have not walked more than a couple hundred feet in several years. I have no strength left in my legs and my back still kills me when I do walk.

Too much information!!Zip it!

Cheers!!

Dave

Good Morning Diners.  Janie, coffee and a Bavarian cream long john please.

I face a dilema and could use some input.  My truck is basically fine.  There are a number of relatively minor issues with it, but nothing that makes it unsafe or undriveable.  Just really annoying.  We just paid some other stuff off, so I could upgrade to a newer truck and specifically to one I've really wanted for several years without it really affecting our budget.  The thing is, with the exception of my very first vehicle, every vehicle I've bought, I bought due to need.  (reliability issues, mechanical issues costing more than they were worth, one got hit and totalled parked in front of my house, etc.)  In all of the previous cases, I was clearly due for a newer vehicle and so didn't have a problem doing it.  I've never bought a vehicle just because I wanted an upgrade.  The last several of my wife's vehicles were acquired due to want as opposed to need though.  My wife is telling me to buy a newer truck.  Friends are telling me to just do it.  I'm waffling.  Anybody else go through that?

Good morning

Have fun with your War Gaming in Orlando KevinBig Smile

Hi Mike.  Don't really know what the better idea is on that one, but I've been known to drive em till they drop.  The old Ram's drive train has been very dependable.

My independent mechanic doesn't have the overhead the bigger shops have, so he's quite reasonable with replacement of typical parts that wear out on an older vehicle.

It's known as the PP clause.  It's either Parts or Payments, and as long as they're not bleeding me to death, I've been replacing the occasional parts.

Wish there was another column to do as the weather's been gorgeous up here.  Been busy down the hall, ...Eat, Sleep Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

Thursday is our Friday.  I'm sure Judy will find something fun for us to do.

I'm making plans to take my daughters to the House on the Rock in Dodgeville, Wisconsin this Fall.  They're excited about it, as they've never been there.  I'm looking forward to re-visiting that disturbing nightmare againLaugh

Have a great day gentlemenSmile

Dave I've not heard of anyone losing their license for tht reason.  Maybe there is too much red tape in the states to get it back

Mike I bought vehicles for both reasons.  For some a vehicle is part of their ego so they "need" a new F-150, Porsche, Corvette, Benz or a Bentley, if your name is Geraldo.  It also depends on how much you drive.  I've lived 10 minutes from work and I've lived an hour and a half from work.

Money matters.  Just because everything is paid off, doesn't mean you are saving enough for retirement.  I have at least 4 friends in their 70's who have to work to make end meet.  If you maximized what you put in retirement plans or IRA's, go for it.

My $.02

Here is a random observation that I just noticed when opening the diner.  I'm sure someone else has notice/commented on this as well, but I was not aware of it.

The diner is titled "Jefferey's Trackside Diner." The graffic is "Jeffrey's Trackside Diner.  In the "in Memoriam" section, above Jeff's picture is the header Jeffery Wimberly; below the picture is the tag "Jeffrey-Wimberly."

Just curious, as a Jeffrey myself, what was Jeff's given name?  I didn't interact with him directly much when he was in the forum, but I am glad that Kalmbach lets us have a place where we can discuss model railroading and stuff.

Made a solo trip to Wichita to see the eye surgeon on Tuesday; he is pretty much done with the care of my eye; has referred me to a retinal specialist in his group.  Frustrating that I cannot get in to see that doctor for six weeks.  I have not had normal vision in my right eye for over two years; I guess I may have to get used to that permanently.

My middle daughter made the offending graphcs for us.

Anyone can replace them any time they like with corrected graphics.
