I'll have an omelet with mushrooms from Bear's Frisco dining car menu.  I'm not happy they don't serve bacon, but I imagine I can make it one day without.

Maybe the diner can make a side trip to the Ohio State Fair?

I'll have one of everything on the menu!  This looks like another good reason to visit Ohio.  I think I've told you before that my wife is from Euclid, and we want to get back to look at her childhood home.

I just got a bundle of pictures in the mail of me as a youngster and my dad from my step Mom Marlene.

Bless her heart for sending the good memories.

Good morning

Huh!  Do you suppose it would have been a better idea to send Joe's track crew out to do the maintenance on line number 9 ten/twenty years ago?

Probably!

TF

Probably not.

I suspect the track was left that way because they needed a reason to blame their PA units for being the cause of derailments.

Good morning, diners.  I'll have an omelet with mushrooms from Bear's Frisco dining car menu.  I'm not happy they don't serve bacon, but I imagine I can make it one day without.

Mike, I've said before that I hope you enjoy and savor every minute of the time spent with your kids.  In the blink of an eye, they'll be off on their own.  My daughters did not play soccer, but I spent a lot of evenings and weekends at volleyball and basketball tournaments.

The most enjoyable sports that I liked watching the daughters play were tennis and golf.  All three played those in high school, and the games were low key, and the crowds were quiet and respectful.  No arguments, no anger, no complaints about refs.

I'd love to have some of those days back.

It was another cool morning for a walk, but later in the week we'll hit the 90s again.

It's a day to cut grass, clean rain gutters, visit the store, and a church meeting tonight.  No layout time.Thumbs Down

Hope everyone has a healthy good day.

One of the problems of grain elevators is the grain dust causing explosions.  Here's one that was in South Sioux City, Nebraska, several years ago.  The reinforced concrete silos and elevator were so badly damaged they took the whole thing down.  This elevator is on the BNSF line:

Good Morning all.  Flo, coffee in a large Michigan Central mug please.

What a nice weekend.  Between my college team winning, my NFL team winning, and my fantasy football team winning, it was a great weekend for football!  Spent Saturday on the road for a soccer game for my youngest.  Beautiful day, the girls played well, and won 3-1.  Came home to a birthday dinner for my wife with her whole family over.  Saturday was long, but good.  Yesterday I was...wait for it....on the road all day for a soccer game.  Absolutely crummy weather.  Downpoured for the game (most of the day in fact).  The game was great though.  Evenly matched teams, no dirty play, good officiating.  It was fun to watch.  Our girls ended up getting a little out of sorts at times, and ended up losing 2-1, which is unfortunate, but how it goes sometimes.

There were areas on the calmer parts of the rivers where "tanking" has become popular.

That actually looks like a lot of fun.

I hope everyone has a great day today.

How about something fun?  I used to take students on a canoeing-camping trip on a river with rapids.  There were areas on the calmer parts of the rivers where "tanking" has become popular.

People pack a lunch, a cooler with adult drinks, and pile into a cow tank to slowly float down the rivers.  We even have people come from other states just to experiece something they don't often see elsewhere.  It started as a joke -- a way to poke fun at ourselves and our rural heritage, and it has become a fun thing to do.

Good morning, diners.  No breakfast in the diner today -- it's donut day.  I'll have just coffee.

Jim, KU's basketball program is amazing.  If you want to see and hear one of sports' most amazing traditions, go to a KU basketball game (if you can get a ticket) and watch and hear the Rock Chalk Jayhawk chant.  They have a quote from Teddy Roosevelt calling it the greatest college chant he had ever heard.

When we took my daughter to Kansas State University, we were amazed a the rivalry between KU and K-State.  They truly don't like each other.

It's a very cool morning out here in flyover country.  44° to start the day.  Feels refreshing.

I hope everyone has a great day today.

Hi Everyone,

I forgot to mention one thing about Kansas.  Kansas University has a super human invincible basketball team that are feared by all!

Hi Everyone,

Brunhilda, coffee with cream, please.

"Kansas is a state much like Nebraska.  The people are a little defensive about the state because many people living on the coasts either ignore the plains states, make fun of the farming people, or just look at the states as a long boring problem when crossing them.

If you travel through Kansas, you will find a different kind of beauty in the rolling wheat fields, and you will be amazed at the friendly people."   -John

I echo that sentiment wholeheartedly.  Kansas is an interesting place.  The eastern part of the state saw much bloodshed as a result of the Kansas- Nebraska act.  The slave staters in Missouri and the free staters (Jayhawkers) were shooting each other right and left during the 1850's.  Kansas finally came into the union as a free state on January 29, 1861.  Then there were raids by the Cheyenne, Pawnees, and I think to a lesser extent Arapaho and Sioux (as they were called then) in the central and western part of the state until 1868.  My great-great grandfather homesteaded there in 1870.

The first time I went through Liberal, I was moving to LA.  In the early 70's SSW acquired the Rock Island trackage from Tucumcari to KC.  That gave SP a direct route for their fruit trains to the northeast.  That started my fascination with SP which was re-enforced when I lived in LA.

Edit:  I copied and pasted the pic of the Liberal station.  Uuuhh!  I think I did it wrong.

Less is more,...more or less!

POST HOG!

I thought you might get a kick out of this one John.

I'm working on finishing up my 8th custom bridge on the layout and working on my three removable mining modules.

I have a steeple mountain similar to that one in Scotland with two gulches on either side and working on plans for a makeshift mining Bridge.

I'm trying to design something makeshift looking cuz I think it will look cool.

Don't know but it looks like fun to build and I may make two, or might come up with another idea for the other Gulch on either side to thread the eye of the needle!

I read you loud and clear John.

That's the way it is with those Custom Bridges but taking a look at the last one you built was a chin dropperStick out tongue

I got to tell you I was envious of your bridge deck on that one that you did such a admirable job onYes

The last one and the next Custom Bridge you build will look nothing like any bridge that anyone else hasBow

That's the Enthusiasm and the Incentive to build your inspiration on John!

TF, welcome back.

I haven't started my next bridge.  I don't know what's wrong, but I'm working on other things, and I can't get up the enthusiasm to start the new bridge.

I think part of my problem is that the first bridge I built took so long and I was faced with so many "do overs" that I am reluctant to jump in again.  What it will take is just that I'm going to wake up one morning and make myself start cutting some plastic.

Inspiration needed!

I replace my battery every 4 years Faithfully and rotate it to the Mustang that's kept in a controlled environment.

It gets really cold in the Winter in Minnesota and my jumper cables are used to help other people now instead of meLaugh

How's that new bridge over the road coming along John? Stick out tongue

So we get to the sleaze ball metal processors that turn them for what must be a sizeable cut.  No reputable business would do that.

When I lived in New Orleans, an auto parts store opened down the street that had a sign out front, "We Buy Used Batteries".

One morning, I went out to go to work and turned the key on my 1978 Dodge pickup.  Nothing.  I got out, opened the hood, and no battery.

I got a new battery, a very heavy chain, and a heavy duty padlock, and I chained the hood shut.  A couple of days later, I came out in the morning and the chain had been cut.  The new battery was missing.

What bugged me was that the auto parts store had to know they were buying a brand new battery from the idiot who had taken it.

Over a couple of years, I lost batteries, rearview mirrors, a spare tire, and believe it or not, lug nuts.  Not the tire or wheel, just the lug nuts!

Luckily, we lived just a block from public transit, so I could still get to work at the school on those mornings.
