LIONS playing football. Maybe they are in Detroit.

Nah, these guys look a lot more intimidating than the Detroit Lions, at least as a group.  They were marginal when I left Michigan in '74 and haven't really progressed since then.  Perhaps the Ford Family should rename them as the Wildebeests.  Much more likely to be on the plate than lifting the fork. Laugh

[EDIT]  Oops, top of the page.  I'll offer Coney Islands as faire for the evening.  NOT the coneys that most folks think of, as the sauce has no beans and is based on double-ground heart meat. Add cumin, chili powder, and a couple of other secrets and simmer for about three hours.  Pack the sauce on the top of a grilled hot dog, layer it with a nice bed of minced onions, then slather it with a thin mustard slurry.  Steamed bun, of course.  Breath mints are advised.  Not recommended for first dates or with young ladies it takes some time to secure.  Lemme see if I can come up with a photo . . .

I agree that the look of an octopus on your plate can be a bit strange, but if it is cooked properly, it is a delight. The operative words here are 'cooked properly'. When properly cooked it is tender and very tasty.

Every time I've tried it, it has been like eating rubber.  No taste at all.

I've had it like that too. Not good.

I believe that the traditional method for tenderizing octopus was to pound it on a rock for a considerable amount of time. I'm not sure how they do it in restaurants today. I doubt that they have a big rock out behind the kitchen!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaughClown

By the way, the baby octopuses (octopi?) are naturally fairly tender and they have a niece 'seafoody' flavour, not too strong.

I'm picky about my paint lines and coverage.  But I also tried a new faux-marble technique which I'm happy with.

Hi Don,

Your paint lines are exceptionally smooth and straight. I don't even attempt to brush paint details anymore because my hands shake too much.

However, there was a cartoon depiction done of me several years ago, which appeared on the blackboard at the local Model Railway Club, when I was an active member. IF I’m happy doing Beartoons, then I guess I should be happy to be on the receiving end…

Good morning Diners.   A bowl of porridge with a shot of whisky please, Chloe.

Friends visiting for a lite lunch and afternoon tea,  so that is me playing teaboy.

With some luck I may be able to run trains later.

Hopefully those missing  are on the road to recovery and return soon.

Good morning

Nice job on the buildings Don.

On the octopus subject, never had it.  Had calamari at p.f. Chang's many times before and always thought it was just fish but liked the firm texture similar to Lobster.  Didn't learn until many years later it was squid but already liked it and ordered it again.  The sea bass is better though, hands down.  Never been too eager to eat something that once squirmed or slithered I guessLaugh  But to each their own, if you like something you like something.

Started missing my buddy Ed three days after he became a bit scarce.  It's unlike him not to make a daily appearance and things aren't quite the same around here.  I hope he's doing okay.

I know he was quite upset one night when someone mentioned something cruel having to do with cats.  Rightfully so as I know Ed loves cats and rescues the little critters being that he has such a kind heart.

Perhaps that other someone posted something senseless he didnt really mean after one too many belts.  It can happen.  I know from past experience, social media and one too many belts doesn't mix very well.

Hopefully Ed can return to his friends as he is very well liked and respected around here.  If he's sick I hope he gets better soon.

Just a simple misunderstanding Bear, happens to me all the time.  Perhaps my wording was a bit confusing.

You said:  Mr. TF, keep this up and we'll have to start calling you The Tree Guy, not The Bridge Guy which I thought was funny.

I asked if you could call (me) The Lorax instead of The Tree Guy, only in less words, trying to add to your humor.  Then I posted the Lorax cartoon and said just kidding.

Sure like those colorful Train posters you postSmile

Yes, when I read the comment too I was taken aback.   I can understand how Ed could be upset (if he is).

I was in a similar position on a U.K. Forum.  I am wary of his postings now and do not enter conversation with him.

Hopefully Ed will return very soon.

Test.  Getting the 403 forbidden error, but just in this thread.

That worked, now let's see if I can copy and paste my first attempt in as an edit:

Good Morning Diners.  Chloe, a coffee and a slice of coffee cake please.

I sure hope our missing diners can send a message out that they are okay.  KevinEdRayKenHenryAlvieDon, etc, are you out there?

I went to bed last night at 8:30 and it was a struggle to stay up that long!  Boy do I feel better today.  Slept like a rock.

John, you say the Lions haven't progressed since you left in '74.  They have too progressed....backwards!  Not only have they accomplished the feat of becoming the first 0-16 team, they looked like they would become the first 0-17 team too!  Part of the reason I've been a life-long Chiefs fan. More people in my neck of the woods (west Michigan) are either Packers or Bears fans, instead of Lions fans.  Tends to work out better for them! Laugh

Have a good day guys!

Edit: What a PITA!  I had to copy and paste no more than two sentences at time or I would get the 403 forbidden message.  I'm nothing if not persistent. Laugh

Good morning David, Mike, Dave

Yes, I was quite surprised and disappointed David, the night that Harsh statement was made.  By no means trying to stir the pot this morning but It was very unlike that person who said those things is why I think he must have been a little bit off that night.

Yep, I have had those 403 Forbidden messages as well Mike.  Maybe just a fluke that happens sometimes.

Thanks Dave.  He certainly is admired and well appreciated for that.  I'm glad your giving Ed a shoutSmile

Had some fun yesterday.  Our men's basketball team made the NJCAA tournament in Hutchinson, KS; a couple of hours away.  We are the #2 seed, and we played a second round game last night.  We won, so we are on to the "elite eight" so to speak. The College took two buses and a mini-bus; we had cheerleaders, pep band, and a whole lot of faculty, staff & administration there. I am looking forward to our next game on Thursday.

Morning all,

I hope all is well with everyone.

John Glabb was smartt enough to put a date code on the top of all ths polly scale paints he sold.   I looked at my Boxcar Red 04/06 and D&RGW Bldg Brown: 11/08

I bought a ton of paint back then.  So I had like 3 copies of every bottle.  But the paint came out thick as I did a test stir & shake.  Water helps but that's a last drastic step.

I reluctantly had to admit it was time to try something new.  So I bought Vellojo Leather Brown, Mahgony Brown, Red Leather, Brown Sand, and Stone Grey.   I'll see how it goes as I finish up Merchants Row 1.  I still have 3->4 brick colors to paint.

Hi Everyone,

Brunhilde, coffee with cream, please.

Ah, the Detroit Lions.  i was unaware that they are owned by the Ford family.  Sounds like a situation similar to the Wrigleys owning the Chicago Cubs.  It didn't matter if the team won or lost, they still made revenue.  Funny their former quarterback wasn't going anywhere with the Lions, gets traded and wins the super bowl.  That suggests problems with Lions management, but then, I don't know.

Im a Chiefs and Chargers fan.  I know, same division.  I've liked the Chargers since 61 when they were in LA the first time.  Then they moved to San Diego for 50 years and for lust of more money, dumped on their loyal San Diego fans and went back to LA.  I get it.  It's about bucks.  But, what are they doing to the people who supported them for 50 years?  I'm sure there's more to it than that.

Now that you mention it, Ed has been missing lately.  I hope all is ok.

Once again it's time for March Madness.  Hope everyone's team does well unless they're playing mine.

"The reports of my death are grossly exaggerated..." *

     — an oft used misquote attributed to Mark Twain Wink

Thank you TF, CNCharlie, Dave, Bear, Brent and others who have noted my little recess period. I have many friends here and I wouldn't leave them hanging by simply disappearing.

There was a confluence of events here that caused me to take a step back and pause for a while. I even skipped out on Weekend Photo Fun.

I will say that the primary reason I went to the back of the Diner, in fact way out back by the old grease-reclaim dumpster, was what I believe — unless my suspicions are incorrect — the suspension of Kevin's account for, allegedly, standing up for truth (facts) and integrity of the information presented here in these forums. I, too, was drawn into a thread about DCC meters (too complicated and unnecessary was the conclusion) and I simply bowed out of that conversation.

So in a way my absence was a mini-protest which, of course, fell on deaf ears as there seems to be no recourse here. I would at least like to allow Kevin to present his case to a peer review and the forum participants could have a say in the outcome.

Yes, the "Godzilla" thread which thankfully disappeared didn't necessarily upset me but I thought the responses of two of the participants were somewhat juvenile and one was particularly disparaging to some cultural groups. Very childish and the replies did not add anything to the conversation. The original post was quite humorus and entertaining.

Still, it wouldn't be fair to me or the friends I have here to simply disappear. Thanks again to everyone for your sincere concern. Now, what do we have to do to try to reinstate Kevin? Should we march on Kalmbach HQ carrying lighted railroad lanterns? Here we are in Florida and our resident host of the local history is (potentially) banned Hmm  This is a travesty!

Hi Ed

Good to see you back.  We kinda missed you around hereWink

I wish I would have known you were out back by the dumpster.  I would have came back there to hang out and possibly do some dumpster diving with ya.  Who knows, ...The dumpster behind a Model Railroad Diner might have some good stuff for modeling peering over the lidLaughSmile, Wink & Grin

Talked to Kevin via email today and told him of the good news around here.  Shortly after I saw him in the Users Online box but soon after that he told me he still couldn't get in.

Perhaps one of us should start a petition that he should be allowed to come back if that is permitted.  I would happily be the first to sign.  Kevin is a very likable good contributor of the community here.

Good to have you back BudYes

Good afternoon all.

Zoe - RBF's all around please. Thanks.

Disappearing people discussion - I have noticed a few threads going in what I felt were "not right" directions, so had bowed out of most threads of late because of it. Seems cyclical for some reason, there is times that it seems nothing wanders off track, then times that everything gets thrown off the rails.

And I can say that the mods don't always have the easiest of jobs around here because of that. But I do feel that they do try to do the best they can, given the circumstances they are faced with. (Not saying I agree with every action by everyone, mod or not, just that the mods try hard to keep the peace, and that ain't always easy.)

Give Vinny, Steve, and Tom a extra RBF each for me Zoe. (Virtual calories only count virtually.)

Nothing major to share, as I've been very busy with non-train related activities lately.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the day!

To Ed and all,

FWIW, I'm not presently aware of Kevin's account being either suspended or temporarily locked by the admins.  And the last time Kevin had login issues I did inquire and was informed that Kevin had done nothing to merit a suspension.

So...I think we have to conclude that there is some sort of conflict going on between the forum software and Kevin's computer/forum account that isn't allowing him to post and nothing more.  The aging software seems to invent new issues every couple of months or so.  I wish I had the power to address and fix them but...sadly, I don't.  I have to put up with the same gliches as the rest of you. Tongue Tied

On a positive note I would like to happily share that - as of today - one particular forum poster, who has built a reputation the past 20+ months for being disruptive, argumentative, surreptitious, and the main perpetrator for a number of threads going off course - has been shown the door by Steve.  And, if you suspect that a newcomer to the forum in the days and weeks ahead resembles this ex-member by their online presence and persona, please do not hesitate to submit an RA (Report Abuse).

Ed, welcome back from wherever you went. Laugh

Regarding Kevin, what is his status? Has he been banned, or is his disappearance computer-related? Nobody seems to know for sure, including Kevin.

Standing up for truth (facts) and integrity of the information presented here in these forums are both critical to an informed membership. I will offer this thought. If Kevin has been banned for speaking out in harsh terms, to paraphrase Hippocrates, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Hi Tom and Thanks for the update.

I had let Kevin know through email today some of these incompatibilities among other situations with computers and phones that my daughter explained to me.

I'm certainly no expert on the matter but a few of these troubleshootings from her got me out of the woods more than once.  I hope what I passed onto him helps his situation.

I know he thaught he was suspended and I had starting thinking that as well, so thanks for clearing that up.

Ed, so glad to see you back in the diner.  Zoe, Ed's tab is on me tonight.

Tom, I used the RA button a couple times that warranted it and assumed it went nowhere as I never received an acknowledgement and saw no change.  Good to know they are received and reviewed by someone. Yes

If there really is something more than a glitch keeping Kevin out, I would like to offer up my vote to let him back in ASAP.  I know I'm just a peon here, but I hate to see good people not be able to participate here.

Hi Mike

I had sent an abuse report in yesterday.  I don't know how many others had already done so or how many reports it takes as there's probably different circumstances.  I was wondering to myself why I hadn't submitted one earlier on instead of nancing around in the thread with the source.

Years ago as a newbie I had said something to Ulrich that was taken the complete opposite way as it was intended.  I was emailed I was reported for abuse and put on probation.  My posts were pre-moderated for a better part of a week, so I know that report abuse submission works.

That suggests problems with Lions management, but then, I don't know.

You are so right, you have no idea.  They  (the Ford family) are the only common thread over the decades of futility.  How many generational talents have they had that went nowhere?!  Matt Stafford (not generational, but far better than his Detroit record suggested), Calvin Johnson, Barry Sanders, etc, etc, etc.  I remember one of the teams in the 90's sent something like 8 or 9 players to the pro-bowl and yet the team had a losing record.  That sort of thing just doesn't happen in the NFL.  Unless it's in Detroit.
