Good morning Diners. A frosty start to the day, so a Full English is the order please, Chloe.
A busy day with deliveries of groceries etc. etc. so not going out.
Dawn is in a lot of pain lately. An ongoing battle that gets her down sometimes. As she says, "She'll not let the xxxxxxxxs grind her down."
Try and call into the Diner later.

Hi David,
I'm sorry to hear that Dawn is not having a good time these days, but I am glad to hear that she is able to keep her spirits up.
Take care, both of you!
Cheers!!

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Good Morning All,
Just a regular to go please Zoe. The white ground cover is all gone now and the lake I go over daily is now ice free with the first hardy souls boating already. Got the temporary shelter up yesterday so we can move the lawn stuff out of the garage making room for the 2 x 3's for the basement stud walls - the first part of finishing the downstairs where the layout will go. One step at a time.
David - sorry to hear Dawn is continuing to have problems with pain. The CFO is similarly troubled and tries to just ignore it.
We launch the truck to Ca. this week and the second one for VIR outside of Danville the week after. The Cali cars are all done and ready but of the ones for Va one is done the second will be ready in a day or so and we are still waiting on two motors to be done so we can assemble those cars. We shall see. Ciao, J.R.
hon30critter Hi David, I'm sorry to hear that Dawn is not having a good time these days, but I am glad to hear that she is able to keep her spirits up. Take care, both of you! Cheers!! Dave
Thanks Dave for your concern and prayers from your previous post.
Most days it is an uphill battle, but there are days we are at the top.
Good Morning Diners. Flo, I'll take the special, with my eggs over easy. Wheat toast.
So I came down with a cold on Friday. Crummy as they can be, what made it even more fun was my youngest was in a soccer tournament on Saturday at the university where I went to school. No worries I thought, they have a beautiful indoor facility with three full size fields where she played in a spring tournament 3 or 4 years ago. Imagine how thrilled I was to find out that this tournament was outdoors. Oh, and it was about 40 degrees F and rainy all day. I was miserable.
David, sorry to hear about Dawn not doing well. Praying for better days.
Not railroad related but another mode of transport that I associate with Florida, through the 80s TV show “Miami Vice” is the cigarette boat.
Have a good day everyone!

Good Morning,
Up early today as my wife had a doc appointment at 7. We got there early and she was out by 7. Our doc starts very early. He will take you at 6:15 if you can get there by then. She is still having a bad time with anxiety. We are now in quarantine from each other for 5 days as she is afraid she got omicron by visiting the doc. I'm in my basement lair. At least I have my trains down here. I have a fridge and microwave so I can feed myself.
David, hope your wife is feeling better soon.
The first Ferrari I saw was on a dealer's lot in Toronto the fall of '71. It was a Daytona model with a 25k sticker, brand new. A Dino was 12k. I had just moved to Barrie that year and was working for GE.
Expecting rain today which will make a real mess as there is still 3' of snow in the yard. Not looking forward to spring. My wife is afraid there are clouds of omicron wafting from the neighbours and is afraid to go into plant nurseries.
There is a gray squirrel looking in the window. Although I'm in a basement room, there is a 20' row of windows so it is a very bright room. The ground is 3' below grade along the windows.
Say Lion, those eggs bennie sure look good. One of my favourites. Has been a long time since I've had them.

Good morning, everyone. I'll have bacon, eggs, and black coffee, please.
It's good to be back in the diner! There's a lot of mileage on the Ford.
I haven't had a chance to catch up on everything going on in the diner; I'll try to get through all the pages later today.
We had a great time with all the family together. The park was great, and the place we stayed was nice.
I'm tired. I think my age might have something to do with it. These family hikes used to be easy. This time, not so easy. One day it was pretty rough ground with lots of sharp, uneven rocks. The grandchildren all love the hiking, and now don't complain about the difficulty.
Here are some of them up ahead of me. We hit a sharp uphill stretch, but the waterfalls and rapids at the top were worth it.
I hope everyone is doing well. Is Kevin back yet? I guess I will find out when I sit down later to read all the diner news.
If I don't check in later, I hope everyone has a great Monday.

Good morning
Had too much of Don's motor oil this morning and my head's spinning like a top. Perhaps some of Lion's delicious-looking Eggs Benedict might do the trick. I never knew there was a Saint Benedict and often learn something new from Brother Elias
P.S. I read the history of Italian Monk Saint Benedict of Nursia and learned of Monte Cassino Feast Day. Found his life history interesting. Perhaps this is celebrated July 11th as well?
Liked the beartoon Bear I've never been a fan of buildings to close to railroad tracks in case something happens, especially at Crossings. At least the one next to the High-Rails was brick and on the inside of a curve.
I knew they shouldn't have used the equivalent of an 18 inch radius for HO on that
Sunday is the busiest day in the hotel business and rather trying for Judy. They have a large breakfast buffet and yesterday there was a spat and the cook walked off the job. She observed the rest of the staff couldn't keep up with replenishing the food. She said it was disgusting as people became rude to one another and started hogging the food so the next person in line didn't get any. It ain't like one couldn't go up and get some more when they brought more out.
Reminds me of two different times back in the day when Tickle Me Elmo and Cabbage Patch Kids were so popular. The supply could not keep up with the demand and both times on Black Friday people were actually hurt fighting over those stupid dolls
Well, she was dropped off at work a while ago so I think I'll get out the modeling mat. Got some different tree materials so I'm going to try something new today.
Have a good Monday gentleman

YES! The church moved tehe feast day to July 11 so that it would not occur during Lent. So we, as Benedictine Monks simply kept both of them. Today's feast has morphed over a variety of names, but this is the date of his passing or transitus as the Franciscians would say.
The screen on my phone has been fluttering and shifting to a different frame posting the last few days. This is nothing new and I'm glad it don't happen all the time. I've noticed the problem subsides almost completely when the pop up adds that take up half the screen are deleted. They have to be as it's physically impossible to post from a phone with them there.
I think I need to give my eyes a break today.
Hope your wife feels better soon David

Man has it been quiet in here. Typical for a Monday I suppose.

TF, I looked at all your bridge pictures.
Nice work!
I have ordered some Plastruct I-beams in various sizes. When I get them, I will start construction on the first bridge.
Here are the two temporary sections that will be replaced with my first bridge. I built this temporary bridge because I'm anxious to get a train running again.
Thanks for all your help! If I run into any issues, I know who to contact!

Good morning Diners. Tea and toast please, Brunhilda.
Thank you gentlemen for your kind messages for Dawn. She sends her thanks. She has an appointment at the Hospice today.Hopefully I can catch up on the posts here when we return.
Stay Safe Everyone.
Good Morning All. Flo, a coffee to go please.
Just checking in to say a quick hello.
My youngest got some wonderful news last night. She is a freshman in high school and her coach is not only putting her on the varsity soccer team, it sounds like she will be starting. She was absolutely beaming last night!
Busy day today, so I have to be going. I'll try to check back later.

Hi Mike,
Congratulations to your daughter! It is very rewarding when you see your kids succeed.

Congratulations. When my daughter went to high school, she was on the lacrosse team and the ski team. The teams clhose her to be their captain in both sports.
You are right to be proud of her, and of yourselves as parents. She did the hard work, but you provided a lot of support over the years. Well done, all of you.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Good morning, everyone. Bacon, eggs, and black coffee, please.
It's officially spring ... we have white junk falling from the sky and collecting on the driveway and yard today. Hopefully the concrete is warm enough that it won't collect too much.
In my working days, these kind of days were not good. If you have normal school hours, you'll have buses running on the dark, snowy country roads with kids standing out in the dark, blowing, freezing snowy weather. If you start school late, you'll have working parents upset about the work hours being interfered with trying to get their kids to school midmorning. Ask me if I'm happy in my retirement.
David, I hope and pray the meeting today gives Dawn some comfort and relief.
Ed, isn't that a strange picture of cars on the open train cars. It reminds us how our world has changed over the past 40 years.
Mike, great news about your daughter's sports team. That's a real compliment to her abilities and work.
With the weather today, my battle will be dragging Daisy the Dachshund outside. She would rather hold everything in than to go out and get her dainty feet wet. I've never seen a dog so averse to getting wet.
The new layout is coming along slowly. Today I'm going to start soldering wires to the track. Maybe in a couple of days I can get the first UP locomotive running on the track! Then it'll be time to start the first bridge construction. I love this hobby!
I hope everyone has a good day. ❄️
Good evening all. It is very frustrating as slowly I am being 'frozen out' of various threads.
If I go 'missing' it is not my computer.
Edit: At last this post has gone through.
To those I have missed. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Dawn.
Mike. Congratulations to your daughter. A great achievement
Thanks for the kind words for my daughter, guys. I hope that some of the locals that have always given us grief for traveling like we have for soccer reconsider when they hear this and see her play. What's more is that through all this, she is still both humble and coachable. Her coach approached my wife about it (they teach in the same building) and affirmed as much. Has me excited for this season!
David, I tried to message you through the forum, but that feature failed for me. Does anyone here have an email for you where we could check on you in case of absence?
Bear, I love the Where's Waldo thread you started! Fun idea. I heard from Kevin today and it sounds like he has been trying the suggestions that have been offered up, but no luck. He is debating creating a new login (I'm guessing wouldn't want to lose references/access to his current one), or calling support (seriously, who wants to have to do that?). Hopefully we get him back soon, if for no other reason than to shut down the Where's Waldo thread. This one promises to be fun!
Hi Mike. Kevin has my address..
I get so frustrated trying to post something on this Forum. Sometimes I try six or seven times before it posts. Other times I just give up.
Being amongst a great group of people I would hate to miss you all.
I am sure the Moderators know there is a problem (or two). Can they (Will they) sort it out.
Meanwhile I shal continue to try to post.

Maybe it would help to invoke the friendly spirits of the STRATTON & GILLETTE by clicking our heels together and repeating the S&G mantra three times. It worked for Dorothy and Toto.

Even then they had to take drastic security measures! The hub caps were locked in the trunk of the car. Of course the keys were tucked into the sun visor or in the glove box. Doors weren't locked.

I heard from Kevin and he had a comment about the earlier turntable discussion. He mentioned that the Florida Live Steamers had a turntable built on a hydraulic ram that could be raised or lowered for loading on to trailers or raised up to the "steaming bay" levels.
Thanks Kevin!
Good afternoon from the rainy West Coast.
With the forum in what appears to be a death spiral, it could hit the ground without notice. I will be found over on "Big Blue" if that happens. Where will the rest of you be? We should put out a list.
David, I am sorry to hear of the ongoing health issues your wife is having. My wife is suffering neurological issues and her deterioration while slow is noticeable. I have been helping her groom the dogs often lately and also almost always go to Costco with her now as it is becoming a chore for her.
My in-laws are both in their eighties and the MIL has Alzheimer's. The FIL is very fit and quite able to look after her and to his credit does an amazing job. The MIL always ate a lot of crap, however, in her current state she seemed clueless as to what she was eating. We made up a diet extremely low in carbs and the FIL stuck to it. Within two weeks the MIL started recognizing him again, knowing who he was as well as other family members. Then she started walking to the park on her own again even tho it is right across the street she had been unable to do that. The tremendous improvement in cognitive ability meant she remembered what she would like to eat and refused to stick to the diet we set out. She is now back to where she was before. It was impossible to convince her to eat low carb once her mental state would improve. The roller coaster was too much for the FIL to handle so he had to give up.
Mike, Congrats on your daughter, behind every successful kid you will see supportive parents, grandparents, and others. I seem to live at the hockey arena for years and that just took the kid so many places with all the connections he made through sport. He is now on the board of directors with an organization connected to Hockey Canada. It is a volunteer spot but he has been volunteering most of his life, I can't ever see him not.
He started the movie work in high school and it was his attitude and work ethic that quickly propelled him into a very enviable position, and while he knew it was not going to be a career for him he now has a lot of great contacts he communicates with on a regular basis.
Time to hop on the bike, my Garmin Active 4 says my fitness age is 52. I am 65 but I want to get that into the 40s if I can. I had a short ride yesterday but I usually push zone 5, 400+ watts for 30 minutes. Then I can be a gluttonous pig at dinner.
Got a note from Rapido that my decoder is on the way back, they changed the programming on the F7B to match the F7A units better. The "B" unit did not have the delayed start like the "A" units and I could not get them to play nice.

Hey all. March has not been kind to me.
I lost someone very close to me on March 2nd- a Second Father of sort . Gary was his name, and he was originally my dad's best friend. When my dad passed in 2018, Gary took me under his wing as the phrase goes, and helped me deal with it. He even took me to the 2019 Daytona 500 race and let me stay at his place in Florida. He was the one who got one of my dad's Antique Harley Davidison motorcycles- a 1952 Cherry red Panhead. He organized a memorial bike run for my dad, and so much more. He helped me clean out my dad's house and make it livable. He pretty much became a second father to me, and I miss him dearly. I spoke at the funeral, and let me tell you- a biker funeral is one of the hardest to go to.Work has been slow, but steady. So there is that to take my mind off it. I haven't had much drive to work on my HO scale layout, but I've been doing small stuff on my current T-Trak module- a yard on the Pittsburgh &West Virginia railway in the 1950s.

Hi Jimmy,
I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like Gary was a great guy.
I haven't touched my layout in a while either. I'm not going to worry about it or feel guilty. It's a hobby.
Take care,
