Things are pretty quiet around here. At roughly 1 PM our power went out. I have UPS on my computers so I can casually shut them down without any ill effects. I also have a few battery emergency lights that come on automatically. One is in the basement so if I'm at the layout I can find my way up the stairs. They are pretty handy.
When I went to the mail box I saw one of the trucks from our fire department about a thousand yards up the street. Maybe a fuse blew or transformer flashed and someone called them.
Just as I was getting ready to fire up the generator the power was restored, about 90 minutes later. Big excitement here!
THIS would be on my "Bucket List" for a visit to England!

It was certainly a great jean jacket picnic! It got up to 54° today
The family came and it's not my fault they want their burgers cooked like hockey pucks
It was grass-fed free range Canadian Montreal burgers half-pounders eh! It's a shame to overcook a premium hunk of meat like that.
They were still good smoked over that Kingsford but I could only dream how mine would have tasted if I would have left a little Moo in the middle!
I would have rather had some pink inside like the Lion likes
But I got to keep everyone Happy and it was such a beautiful day. I only wish you all could have been there
The wretched Covid spreaded to Aunt Paula, her daughter and her daughters three month old baby. I hear it's a rather tough scene over there with the baby crying all the time cuz she just doesn't understand. And both of them so sick they don't even want to be up but have to take turns taking care of the baby
We all got together today and prayed at Bush Lake. No formal act but It was all about the togetherness. I know everything will be just fine

It's rather calming and that may do me a little good right now. There is no improving on the original version please
Hi Everyone,
Brunhilda, coffee with cream, please.
I have an Athearn BB caboose that I've had for 60 years, but was never able to hook up to a train because the screws for the coupler boxes would never tie into anything to hold the couplers in place. Well, fast forward to about 10 - 15 years ag. I got the idea to put a 2-56 nut on the other side of the weight to hold the couplers in place. No action taken until today. I dug the caboose out, aligned the nut over the screw holes in the weight and tacked them down with some glue to hold them in place and proceeded to fix the problem. It worked!
Scotch: Not a fan. We bought a bottle of I think it was McClannans, but I'm not sure, for a family friend. Sampled it. Nah! I'll stick to tequila or Tanqueray and tonic.
edit: It was McCallans scotch. Sorry for any confusion.

Good Evening,
Raining and 35F right now. What crazy weather. Normally it would be zero F at this time of year. It is supposed to turn to snow overnight.
I watched the video Ed posted of the train and I really was amazed at how fast they were running it over what is obviously bad track. Man that engine is sure bouncing around.
One thing I don't miss about work is the travel in winter. I had to drive out to small towns and sometimes I ran into weather I should not have been driving in with snow, wind and poor visibility especially at night. I typically had a schedule to keep for meetings with store owners so I was somewhat compelled to drive. The schedule was entirely of my own making.
Hopefully I'll get a little train time in tomorrow after the grocery run. I want to get the CP Hudson out on the track. It sure is a beautiful model. I look at it and think, OK it was worth it. The paint is absolutely amazing.

They have had their share of mishaps, Charlie:

Some were accidents at level crossings. Nasty stuff, that.
Speaking of fast trains and bad track:

Good morning all. The tea and toast is out. The Heavenly watering can is empty. Thick cloud hugs the sky. I doubt we shall see any sunshine today.

Good morning all.
No work will be done by the construction crew today. All they have left to do is finish work, and some stuff needs to harden for a couple of days. They will be here tomorrow to finish it.
While they are away, I am going to complete the popcorn celing texture removal and un-tarp the house. Cleaning up will take care of the rest of this day for me.
gmpullmanor: Just why did that chicken cross the track?
I'd say that is one very lucky chicken! She got her wings flapping with about 1/10 a second to spare!!! She wouldn't likely even been good for fricassee. Too far brused.... LOL
Mornin' folks!~
Day 11 of my quarantine here in the Finger Lakes. I am still doing as good as I ever do so hoping I stay that way! Still haven't recieved any of the mandatory daily health screenings I am supposed to be getting via text. Wonder if they have been sending them to my old fashioned land line phone instead of the iPhoney thingy I hate? I expect I will be getting a knock on my door sometime telling me I am violating some clause in the order (handcuff me and take me away....LOL)

Good morning
Still enjoying our unseasonable warm weather up here. It's going to get near 50 again today. Can't think of any thing else to do but another picnic. I'm low on kingsford. I suppose I could pick some more up with a couple of T-bones These picnics are getting a little spendy but snow is predicted for the weekend. Got to enjoy the good weather while we got it.
Liked the video Ed. It gave "Why did the chicken cross the road" another meaning That bird was lucky!
P.S. Yes, Thanks for posting all the good stuff here all

I looked at the grills the last time I was at Home Depot. I might need to get another one. A steak on the grill sure sounds good.

Doesn't it though?
We bought a gas grill once for convenience Kevin. We missed that charcoal flavor so much we switched back to old school and gave the gas grill to my brother.
P.S. They do make a round charcoal grill with a gas igniter to get your coals started. I'm going to have to get me one of those one day.
Our Son called round to check we were okay, so a we had a good chat. Hopefully we will see the grandchildren soon.
We had Indian style scrambled egg for lunch.
Dinner will be Chicken Curry.
Take care everybody.
Good Morning,
Well we didn't get the white stuff predicted and it is sunny right now. A lot of the snow melted overnight from the rain. This won't last as it is forecast to turn colder with us down to normal temps by Monday.
Dave, thanks for posting all the great videos. This is really an enjoyable time we are having in England or the 'old country' as my grandmother used to call it.
I've been getting the pop up ads on the MR site which I don't mind now as they are mostly for vintage cars for sale in Canada. I was looking at our autoTrader site so I guess that is the reason. No buying plans, I just like to look.
Kevin, glad to hear you are in the home stretch on those windows. That sort of thing can be very frustrating.
We we made a family decision and it is that Christmas will basically be postponed until next year. We won't be exchanging gifts except something for my MIL.
Soon time for lunch and them I'm off on a grocery run and also a birdseed pickup.
It's still before noon, so good morning.
I also am enjoying the videos of England's trains.

A friend clued me in to these "Chimney" charcoal starters and they are excellent.

Don't get a cheapie but get the Weber or another "trusted" brand. Somebody gave me a cheap knockoff and it had aluminum rivets on it that melted after one use!
I've had just about every kind of propane, natural gas and charcoal grill you can imagine. This hefty guy is home-made using 1/4" plate:
Park_Grille by Edmund, on Flickr
I do miss the older propane grills that used "lava rock". These new ones have "flavor bars" that are pretty much worthless. I do keep a propane grill around (I finally spent the money and got a good Weber one) for those cold, winter days that I don't feel like messing with the charcoal.
Sometimes I like the little "Smokey-Joe" type grill and I also use a big, charcoal smoker.
All different tools for different tasks.
Just a little treat of near where I now live.
Ed, that chimney starter is a lot like a simpler version my parents had to light the charcoal on a BBQ they bought in the '50s.
Charcoal isn't very popular here. You can buy the Weber version but the vast majority of grills are propane.

Belly up to the bar for a good English Ale. It's on me. Maybe David (NorthBrit) can suggest a favorite for us.
