I think I'd stick with eating it. Not sure about smoking goat. Whistling

Hope you all have a good Thanksgiving - however you end up celebrating it. Will probably just see my son who is part of our work bubble, his wife and grandson Sam.    Cheers, J.R.

Suddenly, I am very interested to find out what slow-smoked goat would taste like.

It sounds incredible.

Happy Thanksgiving to All----

Chicken fried deer steak, I have a kitchen tool that resembles a sheep foot roller, but with blades, I run over the meat at a right angle, (sharp blades) coat in flower, dip in egg, and then dip in Ritz cracker crumbs, fry in bacon fat-- 1/2 of a wild turkey breast seasoned with Montreal Chicken spices, baked--mashed potatoes, reconstitued dried carrots, green beans put by in August, pan gravy, apple, pumpkin, and pecan pie. Leftovers for the next three days--

All the pups have had their fall physicals, shots for the next year. Dame Agatha (pup) weighs 84 pounds, Jasmine, (mother) is at 82, and Hooper (already here) is at 87. Not really worried about scraps and left overs. The pup is still growing, and I expect her to top 100 pounds by next year at this time.

Have had two good Easterlies, wind gusts over 80, lost power both time for nearly a full day--burned almost 3 1/2 gallons of diesel in the generator, and recieved over 6 inches of rain. Rain is nice, shovels easy, hate to think what it would have been like if it was the white stuff---

Goat--start chewing a 1/4 inch square, twenty minutes later it has grown to 3/4 of an inch, (still flavorful) and at about 35 minutes starts to break down. Kinda like some moose meat I have had.

Wishing all a safe, quiet, sane, bird day----

Prayers for those in need--

From the Island---herrinchoker

I'm not sure I could eat goat meat. They're just too cute!

Hi Ed,

Your article on goat meat has changed my mind. I was always under the impression that it was gamey but apparently I am wrong. I'll have to see if I can find some locally.

Thanks for the videos Bear! I loved the sheepskin seat covers. I had them in my MGB. Cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Cheers!!

Good morning,

Sitting here at work, with a train on my desk.

I have made myself a desktop DCC system, using an Arduino and a motorshield and the DCC++ EX code, along with JMRI.

This is the coolest thing. a DCC system for about $20 , now for a big layout i would have to have boosters along the line.

Base station

engine

I will show my desktop "layout" once I get it set up Friday.
I am on call and prob will have nothing to do Friday unless all heck breaks out.

For Thanksgiving, it will be just the two of us, assuming we can keep the cats off the table.  But, the GF wanted the whole shebang, so we have a 14 pound turkey and lots of vegetables.  Leftovers for a while, but that's a good thing.

I have eaten goat, at a Pakistani restaurant in Toronto.  No idea what it tasted like.  Everything served at our table, even the stuff we ordered mild, was raw fire.

And I think the younger cat, Snowflake, has been studying physics.  We feed the cats separately, because they prefer each other's food, but old Emily gets sick whenever she eats Snowflake's food.  So, Snowflake has taken to running and body-slamming the door to get to Emily's food.  She has learned that she can get more momentum if she starts at the top of the stairs, runs down and then into the door.

So what are you guys doing for Thanksgiving?   Are you keeping it small or getting together with some family?

It will just be my wife and I alone this year hunkered down and hiding from the Covid.

We did get a small turkey breast and all the fixins. Leftovers for a few days.

It's just Judy and I for Thanksgiving this year.  We looked for just a turkey breast to share but they were out of them.  I guess that was really a hot number this year being that a lot of people aren't doing the big get together considering.

We ended up with the smallest bird we could find, a six pounder.  It has been my experience those smaller birds are more flavorful anyway.  I'm kinda glad we ended up with a whole bird.  I like those turkey sandwiches with lots of Miricle Whip with a big chunk of lettuce and lots of pepper.  About the only other thing I like Miricle Whip on is pasta salads, BLT's and tuna fish sandwiches.

So what are you guys doing for Thanksgiving?   Are you keeping it small or getting together with some family?

P.S.   I love Louisiana food Kevin, John.  I always love to go down there just for that reason.  It's so good I didn't care what was in itLaugh  I had Gator on a stick at the Minnesota State Fair and it wasn't too bad.  Nothing to write home about but it was actually pretty good.

However, I've eaten at quite a few places and I didn't ask what was in the food.  Out in Cajun territory, it was difficult to tell what meat or water animal was in the food.

I had some of my best meals when I lived in Louisiana. And yes, many times I also had no idea what I was eating.

Good morning

One of those nights I was up till the wee hours of the morning, if that don't screw up a guys biological clock or what?  Oh well, what is one to do these days sometimes anyway?

I don't know how it escaped me people eat goat for 57 years but I guess I missed that one.  I had goat cheese on my authentic tacos down in Mexico.  Come to think of it those tacos always tasted better down there, ...Hmmm!

There was a bunch of wild turkeys out in the yard when I woke up late this morning.  Never had one.  I often wondered if those are darker meat and taste gamey or not.

Judy went Christmas shopping after I pleaded her not to a while ago.  She of all people know what's out there and should shop on line.  What are ya going to do though?

I think I'll make me a pot of chili today.  Perfect time of year for it.  Then when we get tired of Turkey we'll have something else to add to the mix.

Have a great Hump Day all

My neighbor raised a goat in one of our 1/8 acre backyards down here. It was behind a fence, so I rarely saw it.

He slaughtered the goat when Code Compliance got onto him for having the animal in his backyard. That was the only time I have eaten goat.

It was yummy.

Good morning, everyone.  Cold this morning, but the rain-sleet-snow has moved on.  After it dries up a little I will pick up more leaves.

I have never eaten goat meat that I know of.  However, I've eaten at quite a few places and I didn't ask what was in the food.  Out in Cajun territory, it was difficult to tell what meat or water animal was in the food.

We will be visiting daughter's family and in-laws Thursday.  Everybody has been quarantining.

I have never seen something like that video of a narrow guage train run onto a standard guage train, Ed.  That is amazing.

Hope everyone stays healthy.

Meanwhile — over on the "West Island"

A little something to go with your coffee:

"Why do we have to change trains?"  Because!

"But I want to stay on this one" You can't! We have to change gauge.

Go to 8:05 and see the train-on-flat car!

David, I hope Dawn is doing better today Yes

Good morning all.   A cold, wet day ahead with the temperature struggling to get above freezing.

No  lamb meat here.  Dawn dislikes it intensely.   Never tried goat and do not wish to.   Anything else is more or less yes.

Christmas traditions are out this year.   We normally have friends and family visit.  We have a 'help yourself meal'. Our son reads 'The Night Before Christmas'.   Grandchildren stay overnite; not before they leave a plate out with a mince pie and a glass of sherry (or whisky),  some carrots left outside for the reindeer.

On coming downstairs we find  Santa's footprints from the fireplace to where some toys are.  We see that there are only crumbs on the plate and the sherry has been drunk.  Bits of carrot still on the floor outside and sparkly reindeer dust

We must tell Santa that this year the Grandchildren are not staying here. Sigh

Coffee  It is coffee time.

Forgot to sprinkle the goat repellant on the layout.

That's a shame Ed.  Maybe you just didn't have any more at the time.

I'm confident Brent could help you with that problem in the future.  He has many repellents up in the Batcopter to usually accommodate you so you don't have a problem like that again

Wish I could take credit for that one, TF. It's not mine.

I don't know what was wrong with the other three thousand people but I thought the cat was cute.  But that doesn't mean I want to eat himLaugh  I'm sorry,  I just couldn't resist.

Venison has never agreed with me.  No other way to say it but it makes my lower stomach foul the next day.  So I don't hunt it and I refuse it offered to me

Healthier for you. Less carbon footprint. Much easier to raise on a small farm or even a little five-acre place like we have.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/goat-meat_n_5bb64c71e4b028e1fe3bcfa2

Some of the cuts of goat we used, mostly leg and shoulder we ate like a beef roast. Some we ground for chili or pasta sauce or tacos. Sometimes I would mix it with pork and make sausage. Home made sausage is easier than you think. The goat is so lean adding the pork was necessary for the fat content. We have an accessory for the KitchenAid mixer that is a sausage stuffer. Pork casing is cheap!

The climate would benefit, too, since the carbon footprint of raising goat is much less than beef cattle.

Plus the big beef lobbies would go nuts if people actually started raising their own red meat. They're already fighting the vegetarian meat substitutes.

Well Jim, according to Eds sleuthing, neither of us is wrong, it’s just a question of nomenclature! Doesn’t change the taste though, YUM!.Dinner

BATMAN
I love shepherds pie made with the leftover lamb from when we buy roast lamb, better than beef any day.

That was how my Mum used to do her Shepherd’s Pie, though she also made a very nice curry from minced cooked roast mutton. Speaking of a nice curry, Indian Curried Goat is also Yum, goat meat being very lean.

Right, trainz. Tonight’s offering is NZR railcars…

OK

I'm trying to man up now.

I know it's no different than when I go to the grocery store and buy some meat to eat and put in a dish at home.

I just had no idea people eat goat until tonight.  I just looked it up minutes ago.  I never bought goat from the grocery store.

I understand but this is a tough one on me Ed cuz I really liked that goat.

I never seen the pictures of the animals of the meat I bought at the grocery store.

Wow, ...I definitely ain't a farmer.  The only thing I ever killed myself to eat was grouse and fish.  But I never stopped to admire thier faces first.

I get itDinner  Still kind of sad though, I really liked that goat.

I was hoping all night you'd say Ahhh!  Just Kidding!

Add goat meat and eat!

Hi TF,

I'm hoping that your recipe included browning the goat meat first, and letting it simmer for a couple of hours with the vegetables before serving. That is unless you like really rare (raw) goat meat!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaughLaugh

I'm not sure I could eat goat meat. They're just too cute!

SeeYou190
Just watched the first half of Season 11 of The Big Bang Theory.

Mrs. Pullman watched BBT as it was broadcast. I paid no attention knowing I was going to buy the DVD sets as they were released.

I have to watch them in chronological order and if I'm interrupted I like to be able to pause and or rewind a scene.

Presently, in my "train lab" or work room I'm on season nine of M.A.S.H. I watched All In The Family, Fraser and Seinfeld the same way.

I have three seasons of Young Sheldon waiting for those long winter days ahead Geeked

4) Add goat meat and eat!

Hi, TF. Farmers raise animals for slaughter. Sorry, just the way it is. Yes, I love my animals but when the time comes we have to face facts. It's never easy.

Pass the A-1 Smile

I'll take goat over vennison any day.
