"Lastspikemike The "rest of us" are not accorded the same "privilege" by that in crowd."

Who exactly is the "in crowd", and who exactly is the "rest of us"? I don't recall any recent critical comments being aimed at anyone other than you. I don't recall anyone else recently stating things in such a way that several forum members have been seriously offended. I don't recall anyone else who has caused three threads to be locked because of the way that you dismissed others' points of view and experience.

Good morning from the Stormy West Coast. We are suppose to be having a big blow with 90K winds this morning but so far nothing.

The restoration company is here and have hermetically sealed off the kitchen. Apparently, the tile has lead in it so extra precaution is to be taken. They also tested for asbestos in the drywall even though the house was built in 1988. Anything before 2010 they test for asbestos. It tested negative.

All of your picts. of them are on their backs- in a food stupor, puppy pile- sleeping, or being held by someone. Have the pups learned that they have legs, and can walk?

Jan, I have just been stealing some of the wife's pics to post. She has posted a ton of videos of the pups running around to her closed FB page but I have no idea how to steal those videos and post them here.

Calvin and Hobbes is my all-time favourite cartoon. I had one strip on my cupboard at my old house for years and brought it with me to my new house and stuck it to the cabinet here, so it has been in the kitchens of both houses over decades.

Well, the sky just clear and the wind came with it big time. Better go before the power does.

All the best to all.

I really doubt the nusing home is turning away the mail truck because they are worried that Covid is on the box or they don't have enough staff.

There is nothing but deliveries at a nursing home, personal protective equipment, medications for the patients, incontinence products, food, magazines and newspapers.

I think the postman wanted an early day.

Meanwhile, we have some new candidates to invite to the diner.  Cool

Good morning, everyone.  It's a beautiful morning here for a walk on the trail.  30°F, sunny, no wind.

The trail was blocked in some places by downed trees.  Judging from the numbers of trees, it will be a long time before our little town is able to clear all the damage.  We don't have a large number of city workers, and clearing trees from a park trail is probably not high on the list of things to be done.

There was a multi-week series of Calvin & Hobbes comic strips where Calvin and Hobbes were building a model airplane. It was very funny.

Calvin and Hobbes!  That is probably my favorite comic strip of all time.  That is the only strip that I bought all the books containing the strips.

Now the list she made for her has involved me helping her and the jobs are done. Now to tackle the jobs I have been given.   Funny how I can only do them by myself.

If you're like me, I wish my wife would just tell me what to do, and then leave me alone.

The worst projects are ones she starts while I am out of the house.  Not only does she want me to finish things, but I also have to repair all the silly things she did when she started the project.  What would I do without her?  (Don't let her paint!  You will spend days cleaning paint from the ceiling, floor, switch plates, door knobs, windows, and the dog.)

I love TV.  My kids have all gotten rid of cable TV.  This started when they wanted to watch certain programs on the subscriber hosts, like Netflix.  Then they decided that they didn't need to pay for cable, they could just subscribe to the services they wanted.  Guess what?  They now subscribe to so many online services that they are paying more per month than they did with cable.  And they don't get certain programs they liked before.

This will sound silly, but with the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday coming up, I will say I am thankful to Kalmbach for providing this forum.  I live in a sparsely populated area of the country, and this forum is like an old friend that I can have coffee with each day.  Thank you, Kalmbach!  I appreciate what you provide for me -- for free!

York 1--

There was the day I recieved a call from Mother. She was livid, my brother had come over and caught her on the step ladder, cleaning the gutter over her front door....at the time she was 92. He took the ladder, and Mother wanted me to call my older brother and make him bring it back. As I live over 1800 miles away, luck with that. He also called the various stores in town, (pop. 1700) and asked them to not sell Mrs. White a new ladder, she did try, but was told that they did not have what she wanted in stock at the time. Compounding this was the fact Mother was blind, only having her perifial vision. Looking dead ahead, she could only see to the side. She sewed, and took care of the "old people"in her neighborhood, cooking soups, muffins, cakes and pies for them. She was a good cook until the day she died.

Your post brought back some fond memories-----

That's the reason. Defying logic.

Yeah, defying logic.

—OR perhaps nursing homes and care facilities simply are stretched so thin that they do not have available personnel to deliver packages and letters to the residents  as they arrive at the facility?

I'm glad you have your opinion out there so the rest of us can benefit from your vast expertise.

Thanks, Ed

We are putting in some high-end stuff and after seeing this garbage fall apart as I removed it I am glad we are spending the money on the good stuff.

When I did my kitchen in 2017 I replaced garbage with the good stuff. One thing I was not prepared for was that the interior dimensions of the good stuff are smaller than the cheap garbage. Stuff did not fit in the same places it came out of.

Cabinets were about an inch smaller in the interior, and drawers were a couple of inches narrower.

Evening all.

Got half the kitchen cabinets out and that took a lot longer than I thought it would. They were just crappy particle board and I guess they figured lots of screws would be required so they would not fall to pieces. They are in a heap out on the front lawn.

We are putting in some high-end stuff and after seeing this garbage fall apart as I removed it I am glad we are spending the money on the good stuff. We have done three of four bathrooms and really upped the quality in those as well. We replaced two of three gas fireplaces with really nice Napoleon ones and will do the third soon.

Floors, windows and the master bathroom are left to do.

TF appears to be missing in action and Ken has not filed his daily report. With that massive germ fest you guys are having down there I am always concerned when the schedule is not being kept.Laugh

Time for bed, I have some good RR videos on the bedroom PVR. Have to beat the wife up to the room tonight or it will be reno shows.Grumpy I hate those.

All the best to all.

The evidence now is quite plain, transmission is almost exclusively by airborne infected droplets with virus load and time period of exposure being the important variables. Infection by contact with supposedly contaminated surfaces (fomites)  is just not a significant factor.   So, washing your hands is not nearly as important as avoiding possible airborne exposure.  Although if you frequently touch your eyes or pick your nose....

who is in a nursing home one state away by the USPS  This morning it was "Out for Delivery"   Tonight it is "Held at the Post Office by request of the customer"   Huh?

If your mother's nursing home is like those in our area, letters and packages are sometimes refused delivery for several days.  I don't know what the reasoning is, but evidently they feel that several days of waiting may help stop the virus.

John I've fallen off a couple ladders.  It's disconcerting to think, "I should have hit the ground by now"

Sent a new watch to my mother, who is in a nursing home one state away by the USPS  This morning it was "Out for Delivery"   Tonight it is "Held at the Post Office by request of the customer"   Huh?

Ordered something from Amazon.  UPS this time.   At 8:40 last night it arrived in West Deptford, NJ.   At 3 pm today it arrived in Laurel MD and at 7 pm it was back in West Deptford NJ, Laurel is closer to my home in VA, than NJ.

It was in the 60s today.  I finally finished the cleanup after last week's ice storm.  Whenever I thought I was done, my wife or the neighbors pointed out more branches that needed to be removed.

There is one more branch I could not get, but it is about 35 feet up in the Red Oak tree behind the house.  It is a large branch, but if it finally works loose, it will not hit the house.  Of course, it may hit me while I cut grass.

Some of the wood I was able to salvage for the fireplace, but most of it got hauled to the dump.

I'm tired, sore, and just about ready to sell my extension ladder so I never have to climb it again.  I got my 24 foot extension ladder years ago.  After my mother died, I went to visit my 82-year-old father, and he was on the roof of his tall house cleaning the gutters.  I didn't get upset at him -- I just borrowed his ladder and never returned it.

At least I still have all my body parts, which is always a good thing after a week using a chainsaw.

Time for Monday Night Football, Bears vs Vikings.

Post Hog!!!!

Where is TF anyway?

Never mind hitting a deer in a car, how about a bear in a plane? Happened Saturday in Alaska.

Brent ...... I just read the story in the news. (Fox Business News)

YAKUTAT, Alaska (AP) -- An Alaska Airlines jetliner struck a brown bear while landing early Saturday evening, killing the animal and causing damage to the plane, officials said.

None of the passengers or crew members on board the plane were injured during the accident at the Yakutat Airport in southeast Alaska, The Anchorage Daily News reported.

The Boeing 737-700 killed the brown bear sow, but a cub thought to be about 2 years old was uninjured, Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities spokesman Sam Dapcevich said.

Airport crew members had cleared the runway about 10 minutes before the flight was expected to land, Dapcevich said. The plane landed after dark and crews followed normal procedures for runway checks.

The staff did not see signs of wildlife during the check, but the pilots spotted the two bears crossing the runway as the jet slowed after landing, Dapcevich said.

"The nose gear missed the bears, but the captain felt an impact on the left side after the bears passed under the plane," Alaska Airlines said in a statement.

The pilots saw the bear lying about 20 feet from the center of the runway as the plane taxied to a parking area just before 6:30 p.m., the airline said.

It was not immediately clear how many passengers were on the flight. The plane departed from the town of Cordova and was scheduled to stop in Juneau after leaving Yakutat.

The left engine cowling of the jet was damaged, and the plane remained in Yakutat Sunday.

"Our maintenance technicians are working to repair the plane, which will take a couple of days," Alaska Airlines said.

The airport is partially enclosed by a fence. Employees undergo annual wildlife hazard training and use pyrotechnics or vehicles to herd animals away, the newspaper reported.

Planes previously have been reported to hit deer, geese, caribou and other animals in Alaska, but Dapcevich said this is the first time he was aware of a bear being struck.

Crew members at the Yakutat Airport cleared the bear carcass from the runway. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game was expected to collect the remains, Dapcevich said.

Ken get your eyes checked.  I consider eyes as one of the most organs, right up there with brain heart and lungs.  In a addition to diabetes, there is glaucoma and macular degeneration all can be treated to varying extents.  I've had temors all my life, but they got worse.  Aside from alcohol, my doctor didn't have much to offer except Parkinsons type meds.  I started taking Vitamin B12 and it helped significantly.

I missed a deer, but my advice is to look for the 2nd deer that is 25 yards behind.  I had to go into full emergency stop for that one.

Saw a small truck that hit an elephant.  It was the size of the trucks that are postal carriers use.  It looked like someone dropped a giant medicine ball on the top right corner.  I don't know how the elephant fared.

I was on my hands and knees weeding on Saturday.  We have some sort of aggressive broadleaf weed, and the dandilions that are still blooming.  My legs feel like they did when I played tackle football, without equipment in high school.  Pass the motrin.
