Good afternoon all from the very wet West Coast.

Been busy getting the ducks lined up on this new kitchen, the wifes neurological issues has reared its ugly head yesterday as she has been doing too much to get ready. Today I removed everything from all the cupboards and the restoration crew is in tomorrow and Tues to rip up the floor/subfloor and the electrician is in on Saturday and the new cabinets go in on Dec 2 and then the new floor goes in and then the moulding gets done and then it gets painted. All by Christmas hopefully, but the usual 20 people are not coming for Christmas so it doesn't really matter.Indifferent

My Sister gets her new knee tomorrow and my daughter is getting her gallbladder out Dec 16 after exams if she can last without another attack. The surgeon said he'll get it out with a phone call if she has an attack. Nineteen is really young for gallbladder problems but it runs in the family on my side big time, except for me, but I am not holding my breath.

The food in the diner has been pretty scrumptious here in NZ and I have been enjoying it all. I had roast lamb a lot when I was there.Dinner

Ed, I enjoyed the video about the gold pounding. I would last about 30 seconds in that job before I would need a straight jacket.Laugh My Grandfather was a goldsmith until poor health made him quit. The gas attacks in WWI and the fumes from the goldsmithing gave him breathing issues so he became a mailman where he could be outside breathing that -40 Winnipeg air.Laugh

Dave, you were right about the Rapido RDC coming with lots of bags of spare bits. I have no idea what they all are and will have to read the manual. The RDC2 had more bags than the RDC1 did.

Good videos, good pics and good food in the diner this month, I may not leave NZ, I didn't want to last time I was there.Pirate

The pups are really getting into the cute stage, the wife is now going to keep two here for now as she is so delighted with what she got.

My Mom gave me a bottle of Port 30 years ago so the wife said let's open it to celebrate. I think Mom spent about $26.00 for it in 1980 and the current price is $118.00CA at the Port snob store. It is gone now and we still have not decided what to celebrate.Laugh It was sure gooooood. It was rated 91/100 and I have to concur.

A hand-powered Lathe that George Stephenson used to make his first locomotives with.

All the best to all.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk and Robbie a dog treat.

Ed, that little doe will bring some Bucks to your house! Whistling Rim Shoot.

Jan Glad you not a worm farm buddy. I wonder in CCW had a song "Huning out my back door?"

My Train Day's maybe numbered. Sigh Tried to change out the rear coupler on my PRR Shark A unit. My hands where trembling so badly I could not get it done, plus eye sight up close has gone too Ash Pitt. My hand writting all so sucks rail spikes now. For simple stuff like drinking coffee, opeing a door and cooking I am fine. Fine motor skills, not so great.

Seems like all of you diner talk about is food! Bang Head I try to stay on a GL freindly diet to keep my A1C in line. But nope, nothing but food I should not eat.

So I gave into tonight and bought a full slab of Red Top BBQ Pork Ribs. Came with 2 sides and extra hot BBQ sause on the side. Total was $25.62 but seems well worth it.

Later Ken and Dirk says Woof, Woof.

If I was in a restaurant and saw anyone eating something that looked like the kiamoana that Bear posted, I would say I don't need a menu, just bring me that!

Yummy!

What an informative interview, Bear! During an earthquake do I want to be inside a tunnel or along the shore to see the tsunami coming in? Choices — choices? Indifferent

Such a beautiful territory! Thanks for sharing and thanks for the kiamoana Dinner

I hope everyone is well and safe Angel

Gidday All, and a big thanks to Ed, for the inspiration for tonight’s offerings, though I hope that you didn’t miss out on the view especially if you were on the Coastal Pacific.

A bit of recent history...

Came across a video of the New Zealand railways story, about 1 1/2 hrs. quite interesting.(You Tube) Have put the second deer in the freezer, some in the smoker, (to those who will ask, I use apple wood and alder) and gave a third one to a close friend of mine I have hunted with for over 50 years, he has stage 4 bone cancer and won't be around much longer, getting old really sucks---have one tag left to fill for deer. There have been so many deer killed here on the Island that the "Feed the Hungry" location is refusing to take any more, they have been flooded. Saturday the gang at the "habba" got together, drove a patch of woods and killed 15. My Chessie pup weighs 88 pounds at 12 months, the last deer I tagged weighed 82. (they used to average 130-140-for does) The deer have been breeding like mice, and have stunted in size because of competition for food.

My supply of apples for jelley, and cider, were eaten over a period of two nights, along with my day lillys, and what was left of my hostas. The deer have also tipped all the raspberry plants that I have around the house. (Eaten the ends off the stalks)

I have been fortuniate in being able to take all the deer from my deck, (shooting under a roof does have it's downside,(I use a Mk.5 .303 Jungle Carbine, made in Jan. of 45) I have been able to recover all with my power cart, I can hang on to the handle bars and make my way to the downed game. ( track size is about 1/10 th. the size of a D-2. The tracks are 8 inches wide, and almost 4 feet long. It will run at a slow stagger.)

My recovery from the last double incursion into my heart has slowed me down, don't like it---too much that I have to do before snow flies. At least I have not turned into a worm farm----yet---

Charlie, hope all turns out for the positive with the pup.

Best wishes for all, prayers for those in need, from the Island---

 Happy Friday the 13th diners!

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk and Robbie a dog treat.

Over all a pretty good day. Wife Dirk and I went to the Vet to get his heart guard, paid the water bill, went to the Library to return a book and visited the park. Dirk goes nuts when he gets too the park? He Loves to pee on things!

Got the leaves mulched up in the front yard. Then sat out with Drik.

Only sort of bad luck. Wanted some Red Top BBQ Pork Ribs tonight. Seems there manager does the delivers and he was off today. Delivery fee is only $3.00 so well worth it.

Charlie Hope Robbies blood test come back good. Yes

Later Ken and Drik says Woof, Woof Robbie!

CNCharlie
We had Robbie in yesterday to the vet for a special blood test on his liver. Won't get the results for a few days as it has to go to a lab in Ontario. His surgery is scheduled for Nov. 30. This is costing us a bundle but the little guy is worth it. All I want for Christmas is for him to recover and have a good outcome.

Hi CNCharlie,

I hope Robbie's outcome is positive.

Good Afternoon,

A frosty day here but it is sunny.

Dave, I had a post all done last night but it disappeared. I was on my tablet and typing on it is a slow process so I gave up. Yes, the package came yesterday and I thank you very much for it. So generous of you to send it.

Good morning

Cool and crisp here in NE Ohio.

Nice to find a little extra doe around the house Whistling

 Spare-doe by Edmund, on Flickr

Just before sunset last night and she wandered up one of the walking paths and right on by the house. Nice to have a visitor Smile

Here's some nice work if you qualify:

Old Joe Woodworth has been beating gold for 63 years — and using the same hammer! Railroad link? Pullman cars and several other railroads used gold leaf lettering on cars and locomotives throughought the mid-1950s.

I've been up all night so I guess it is time to make up the lower berth. Have the porter wake me in Kaikoura...

Friday the 13th and all's well!

Cheers, Ed

Good morning, everyone.

We just got back from taking the daughters and families to a southern resort.  A week of great times with the whole family -- until we got home.

There was an ice storm here Tuesday, a bad one.  One of my oak trees has a top broken off about 15 feet from the top.  Lots of branches, some of them pretty big, all over the property.  It will be a long day of chainsaw work and hauling.  Then I can start on the leaves that the large maple trees lost -- all at once.

When we drove home and I saw what was here, I just about turned around to head south again.  At least I won't sweat with the work -- it's 22°F (-5°C).

I hope everyone has a good day, especially those of you with health problems.  You are in my thoughts.

Good morning all.   A day of bright sunshine with a shower or two later.

Doing a little railway modeling then run some trains.

It is 'Burger Friday'  Japanese style.    Double chicken katsu burger with katsu sauce, salad and wedges.   That should keep me busy a little while.

A few beers and all is well.

Thoughts and Peace to all who require.

Stay safe.

The weather report just stated we are to receive two cold fronts in the next few days, and this should bring an end to Hurricane Season 2020. There should be enough cool air to prevent any more Tropical Depressions from forming.

The season does not officially end until November 30th, but if the last three weeks are completely quiet I will be happy.

We broke all the records this year.

There is still a sail boat wedged beneath the Matlacha Bridge.

In keeping with another thread, Matlacha is "Matt-Leh-Shay".

EDIT: Nevermind, they just said there is a new formation South of Cuba that could develop in spite of the cold fronts...

EDIT 2: They just said that there is minimal chance of this formation developing into a Tropical Depression. But, if it managed to develop, it would be named Iota. I guess it would be a small storm.

BigDaddy
Spent nearly an hour on the phone with Wellcare, my pharmacy insurance because I had move. Mail order to a different state is a change in policies,

The follow up is an email that says my application is incomplete.  In what way they did not say, but I am already insured by them and all that is changed is my address.  I had to call again, deal with the press 2 of this and 1 for that, and finally get to a real human being 8,000 miles away.

He looked up my info but system won't let him acutally see anything but that it is "incomplete"  He says he will kick it upstairs and call me back in 3 days.

I talked to a landscaper last Thursday and he never got back to me with an estimate.  His son called today, dad had a heart attack and bypass surgery on Friday.  He is on the mend and according to his son, has calculated that he will be able to go deer hunting in 2 weeks.  He calculated wrong, he's not going to be able to go up a ladder or fire a rifle that has any kick to it.

Quiet in the diner...

I walked through the yard and picked up all the debris from the storm yesterday. No real damage to report. My Queen Palm lost a couple of fronds, and a whole bunch of plastic bags and garbage ended up in my hedges.

All-in-all, it is OK.

Watching a film of interviews with D-Day vets. Very interesting and sobering.  I raised a glass to them and one to Dad.

My Grandfather arrived in France about a week after June 6th. He was wounded and on his way home within two weeks. Those were the only days in the field he knew after almost two years in the army. It changed him forever.

Looks a nice meal, Bear.    My kind of cooking.  I shall be cooking pork and mushroom stir fry Oriental style tonite. Smile

I have finished the backscene on the layout.   Just little bits to add.   Then I might be able to get back to running trains.

Charlie Angel for Robbie, it is hard to lose a good friend. While I did not want another dog I am sure glad I meet Dirk Pip. He is now my little buddy, does his happy dances when I come home.

Vetrans Day at the work front. Meet a X Air Force Pilot that was Air Born Qualiffied and claims he made 210 jumps? Hum, at first I thought he was a Para Jumper like Jan. Nope, he was a F 4 pilot for a while and flew C-130's later. I missed the full story because I was writting up a ticket and talking with the wife. Makes my 15 jumps look like small patatoes.

Good Evening,

Watching a film of interviews with D-Day vets. Very interesting and sobering.  I raised a glass to them and one to Dad. Many said they never talked about it with their kids. My Dad didn't much either until he had a stroke on Nov.11,1973. He had another exactly one year later.

Dave, nice score on those RDCs. I thought about one but they are too new for my RR, which is now 1954. Besides they wouldn't look good on my small layout.

About 15 years ago my dentist was concerned about my gums so I had a series of deep cleaning using high pressure water. It did help and stopped the shrinking of my gums. I've had a couple of root canals and they were no big deal. He was a great dentist but he retired aboyt 5 years ago.

She started poking at my gums and started chanting 3 3, 3 2,2 2, 3 2, 4 4, 3 4..... and on and on.  Eventually a scribe came in the room and she repeated all this as he entered it into the computer.  It is a measure of your gum tooth tightness and 4 is not a good number.

That is a measurement in miliimeters of the open pocket by your teeth.

Mine have all been 5-6 for twenty years now. Maybe that is just the way my mouth is built because I have had no adverse problems from those deep pockets.

If I was your age and had 3s and 4s, I would be dancing in the streets.

I wish I had the other type of deep pocket.

My wife and I flunked our dental visits.

My dentist, from the earliest I remember, had a dental assistant Ms. Horne.  I aways thought the 'e' should not be silent.  She was very attractive, but wore a ton of make up, and false eyelashes.  At my last visit 20+ years later, she was still hot.  I could not remember her name yesterday......until I saw the checkout girl at the new dentist.

Her hair was 90% blonde highlights, black eyebrows, 1" long false eyelashes, which looked better than you would think, and heavy but attractive eye makeup.  However she had the narrowest face I have ever seen on an adult.  With or without makeup, she was no Ms Horne.

My wife had a broken crown and a suspicious area on xray where she had a previous root canal.

My hygienist was unlike any I have ever had. She wants me to get a waterpik and come back in 6 weeks.

Im father had receding gums and went through a long and painful series of surgeries.  I don't want that.
