Well, I'm gonna hit the rack. Enjoyed talking to you gentlemen today.
Everyone have a good night.

TF,
Your grandfather was a very accurate weather predictor!
Glad to see you back!

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Heartland: I have had trains around since I was 2 (American Flyer that I still have). I haven't been able to get a layout started due to kids, work, wife, and health. Kids are grown, work is small potatoes now (single digit countdown to retirement), wife is soon out of the picture, and I hope to have the health issue taken care of this year. I would love to model the Rio Grande in NM and Colorado.
One of the most enjoyable parts of modeling for me is learning new skills. I get a sense of satisfaction from having something turn out even close to the prototype. Problem is I am better at starting projects than at finishing them. Can you have too many interests?
I am in Elk Grove, CA, just south of Sacramento. We have been cooking the last few days. Around 109 F. Today we got a lot of wind and a break in temperature. Didn't even get to 100! The air is smokey and it is "snowing" ash from the fires. We hope the fire fighters are safe.

The tile jobs look great guys! You are hired!!
Speaking of grout, when we did our bathroom over a couple of years ago we were going to use tile for the shower enclosure. We looked at some beautiful tiles. However, my brother-in-law suggested that we look at faux marble shower walls and floor basin. Faux marble is basically a resin with a marble pattern in it. There are lots of colours available. There was about a 50% increase in cost over tile but the results were well worth the investment.
The whole assembly consists of five pieces - four wall panels and a molded floor panel with a built in drain and a 3" lip. The joints fit very tightly so there is only a fine bead of caulking needed. No grout. So far the caulking has held up just fine, and if it eventually needs to be replaced, that will be easy.
Ours is a walk in shower. We don't have a bath tub, but you can get the same materials in a bathtub format. For anyone who is going to replace their bathtub/shower I suggest that you consider going with a faux marble system. They are so much easier to keep clean!
Track fiddlerI see you know what you're doing stacking wall tile on a straight edge before you go down to the always uneven floor to do the floor cuts last.
I have special "threshold" tiles for the last course. These have a bullnose top and go over the wall tiles, so no matter how uneven the floor is, they will not need special cutting.
It is a pretty neat idea. I had never seen these before.
Has anyone had someone attempt to scam them recently?
I advertized some car parts for sale on the internet and I got an e-mail saying that they wanted to buy the parts. Great!! Or so I thought. The asking price was $300.00.
The buyer then proceeded to explain to me that they were going to send me a bank draft for $2400.00, and I was to deposit the $2400.00, withdraw the money, take my $300.00, and then give the rest to the "Transporter" who would pick the parts up. During the whole affair, the 'buyer' insisted on the utmost urgency in depositing the bank draft, getting the cash, and arranging for the pickup. By the way, their English language skills were severely lacking.
We have skunks visit our back yard every night, but they have never stunk as badly as this deal does!!! I called our local Police who referred my to the RCMP Fraud Squad. I will call them tomorrow.
I would love for the RCMP to set up a sting. I haven't told the 'buyer' that I have contacted the Police. It would be very rewarding to see the Police 'bust' the shippers at the door!
There are risks to that of course. The perps know where I live so there is a possibility of them taking revenge for turning them in. However, I'm willing to take that risk in order to get these guys arrested, convicted and sentenced. If we cower from these people, they win!
Good morning
Another cool one 45°. The media says it's cold, I say it's perfect. Fall is my favorite time of the year.
Gonna work on the layout again today. Work is slow and that's okay. I'll take it when it's there but can enjoy some time off just as long as I have something to do.
I slept like a rock through the whole night and love when that happens. If it was things that I did yesterday that causes that, I wish I knew what it was that I did so I could do that everyday
Judy's going into work on her day off because they're busy and they need her. The GM told her boss "Judy is the example of team members we look for around here. All the guests love here and she's always willing to help in a pinch. We need more people like that here". Maybe she'll get a raise out of the deal
Have a great day everyone
Good morning ...
Dave ..... That certainly sounds like a scam. I wonder if anybody is gullible enough to fall for stuff like that.
My wife does a lot of eBay. It's sort of like a hobbby to her. She had her account hijacked by a scammer who listed expensive stuff on her account with instructions to buyers to send payments by Western Union. EBay's security departmnt cleared it up. We had to change passwords after that.
We had a neighbor who receieved a mysterious package to the name he uses for eBay at his address. The package was riot gear shipped from Belgium. He took the package to the Sheriff for handling.
TF ..... I like September weather in the upper Midwest where you are.
Everybody ..... Have a nice day.

Chloe... Please bring me a black coffee and two slices of whole wheat toast to start my day. I woke up feeling great today.
Today will be all tile work, tomorrow should be painting. Then, two more days of painting.
I am loving seeing work that looks like completion is near.
SeeYou190 I am loving seeing work that looks like completion is near.
The light at the end of the tunnel is always nice Kevin
And the thing about doing work on your own home, car or out in the garage is it's enjoyable and not like real work. It's more like a labor of love or a work of passion.
Well, I just finished my coffee and a P&J with cherry preserves on toast for breakfast.
Now I'm going to hit the layout with big expectations for the rest of the day.

Heartland Division CB&QThat certainly sounds like a scam. I wonder if anybody is gullible enough to fall for stuff like that.
Unfortunately yes.
We have so many retirees down here that scams make up an unusual large amount of criminal activity. There is actually a department within our Sheriff's Office to deal with it.
Checks are the worst. I have been in banks twice while bank employees have needed to explain to a victim that a check is not good. That is heartbreaking.
I have been targetted twice, both times by people pretending to be with the IRS.

I need two white soap dishes for my shower. So far I have bought them at Floor & Decor, Home Depot, and Lowes. When I get them home, they are not white, more like bone. They look white in the stores.
My tub is white, the tile is white, the shower rod is white, the corner shelves are white. I need white soap dishes.
Every review for "white cermamic soap dish" on Amazon has someone saying they are not actually white.
Can anyone point me to a source for a real white soap dish?
The picture is of one on Amazon that looks white, but three of the reviews say it is not actually white. The second picture is from the same review showing the soap dish installed. This is what I am running into.
Oh, I also found another album cover with a train on it.
Johnny Cash... Orange Blossom Special.

I hate to tell you this but no one would ever show up to get parts. you would be out the money you would have sent them. they would not get busted, they are in Nigeria or some ex soviet block country
Water Level RouteSo these go on something like baseboard, just made out of tile?
Yes. The mock-up pictures below have the 2 by 4 reprsenting the floor.
I need to leave a gap at the bottom of the last course of tile, then fasten a 1/4" thick cement fiber backer board to the wall to fill the gap.
Then, the threshold tiles get glued to the backer board and go over the wall tiles.
I hope it will look better than having a baseboard between the wall and floor tiles, or a butt joint at the bottom of the wall tiles.
WOW!We had a windstorm last night and it blew out the smog, humidity and the smoke from the fires. We can see past the end of the block for the first time in a couple of months. We’re finally out of the triple digits and it’s almost cool enough for me to work on my layout in the garage. This summer has been a booger!Mel My Model Railroad http://melvineperry.blogspot.com/ Bakersfield, California I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.
I received an email from Ulrich today. He tells me his eyesight is failing, and that he has had to cancel his MR subscription because of that. Too much strain on the eyes to read the magazine, so he's trying to extend his vision for as long as possible. I did extend my prayers and best wishes to he and Petra.

Bill ..... Thanks for replying. I have a very good friend who has also had American Flyer trains since childhood. I know what you mean about not completing projects that are started. I hope your health situtation get better soon. .... Another CA guy is Mel of Bakersfield who just posted the winds have cooled things down after a long hot summer.
Everybody: .... Let's all welcome Bill. Drinks are on me !
Kevin .... I'm getting worn out just watching you work so hard. I have installed tiles years ago, and I doubt I will do that again. ..... Talking about the elderly being scammed brings back bad memories. Before my Mom passed away at 96, she had somebody talk her out of a lot of money. We reported it to police who could not do anything because my Mom was free to make her own choices. It;s too long a story to explain it.
Gary Weighmaster .... Thanks for the info about Ulrich. I will always remember him as a good friend. Please let him know we are thinking of him and praying for his situation.
Everybody ..... Have a good evening.
Bill, welcome to the forum. We're always interested in your model railroad interests and just about anything else.
Gary, if you communicate with Ulrich, let him know that John York1 says hello.
On identity scams, my oldest daughter had her identity stolen over 15 years ago, and she still is dealing with issues. The latest was that two years ago, when she and her husband filed their income tax return, the IRS informed them they had already filed and received their refund. Someone had filed in her name and SSN. It has been an ongoing problem, and there doesn't seem to be any answer.

RR_Mel We’re finally out of the triple digits and it’s almost cool enough for me to work on my layout in the garage.
We got down to a high of 79F today. I could have worked in the garage, but I know it's going back up to the mid-90s so I'll keep building structures for a while longer.

LastspikemikeJust so you know, there would not ever be any attempt to pick anything up. These guys wil go far enough to send you the bogus cheque
Hi Lastspikemike,
So how will they try to collect the money?
Edit:
Top of the page! Even though we are in New Mexico I'm going to suggest pierogis all round. We had bacon and potato pierogis tonight and they were delicious! (I can see the guys who advocate a low carb diet to relieve my back pain cringing right now!)
After boiling them as instructed, I sauteed them in 1/4 lb. of butter (no , that's not a typo!) with chopped bacon. I was able to get a nice light brown crust on most of them. They were topped with fresh chives right out of our garden, and served with sour creme.
We haven't had pierogies for at least a year. What a treat!
Hi Everyone,
Kevin: I don't know if I can be of any help, but from what you're describing it sounds like you may need to go higher end to get a color match. If so, you might have some luck at maybe Kohler, Toto, or perhaps Porcelanosa. These are high end products and you'll find them in most likely Miami or Atlanta, or perhaps a local kitchen designer can help you get something that matches. Or, try a higher end plumbing supply store like Ferguson or Banner.I couldn't tell from the tub enclosure picture if it was gloss acrylic sheets or subway type tiles. It would help if you took a tile or piece of the white with you if you choose to pursue it.
Hope this possibly helps.

Hey all.
Sorry I have been away, i nearly went to the hospital on Saturday.
Basically, I Played around with calorie restriction too much, and developed a lot of scary effects. I was eating less than 300 of the minimum calorie budget for my weight (basic metabolic Rate).
I was dizzy, Light headed, Drowsy, shaking hands, etc. If I hadn't gotten it fixed on my own.... would have been ER time. Im still having dizzy spells, but only when really moving my head fast around.
Work is going well, busy compared to other departments, so Im content.
Modeling: I got another piece of the framework down and secure. Hopefully the radius templates help me get my 30° turns correct.
So Im on the slow mend, and hopefully back to my energy levels soon
(My Model Railroad, My Rules)
These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
Heartland Division CB&QDave ..... That certainly sounds like a scam. I wonder if anybody is gullible enough to fall for stuff like that.
Hi Garry,
Well, apparently people do fall for this stuff. I made a complaint to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) who keep track of the fraud complaints. My file # is 2020-111099. That leads me to believe that there have been 111098 complaints filed before me this year, and that of course does not include all the potential victims who don't bother, or are afraid to report the frauds.
The RCMP doesn't establish an investigation for every fraud reported. Any investigations are done by the local municipal police forces. The primary purpose for the RCMP reporting system is to establish a data base for local police forces to use. They do monitor the reports, and if something significant shows up they will contact the appropriate local police forces.
I'll keep all of you posted on how this situation goes.
Cheers!!

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the update. That man has been through Hades and back with his health problems.
Please say 'Hi' for me if you are speaking to him again.
